The latest memory I have of my grandfather was us watching The Princess and the Frog. After he passed away this was forever my favorite movie. I even went as far as making my fourth birthday party the princess and the frog theme I was obsessed. The princess and the frog gave me a sense of comfort and safety, reminding me of the strong and resilient nature of my grandfather, he was a God-fearing and strong-minded man, and both the movie and my grandfather taught me valuable lessons that have stayed with me throughout the years. This movie has taught me that no matter where I come from or the struggles I may go through there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. The movie showed me that facing challenges and overcoming obstacles are part of the journey toward achieving my dreams. As if we African-Americans, don’t have it hard enough already growing up as an African-American woman I have already had the target on my back because of the color of my skin. As an African-American female I was able to relate to the movie on a deeper level it highlighted the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. A scene in particular struck a chord with the imagery of the hardwood floor, broken walls, and a barely hanging chandelier mirroring the emotions I felt after my grandfather's passing. It reminded me of the strength and determination needed to rebuild something beautiful and out of difficult circumstances. now, at the age of 18, I still find solace in watching The Princess and the Frog about five times a week. It serves as a source of inspiration and motivation, especially during challenging times like after a hard day at school, the movie reminds me that success takes time and effort, and that perseverance is key to achieving whatever goals I have in mind. Through Tiana‘s journey, I am reminded that setbacks are temporary, but the strength to be gained from overcoming them is everlasting. Like Princess Tiana, I am reminded that with dedication and hard work, I am “almost there” In conclusion, The Princess and the Frog is more than just a movie to me. It is a source of strength resilience, and hope it helped me navigate through tough times and surge as a constant reminder of the lessons, my grandfather instilled in me. I will continue to hold this movie close to my heart.

My life was never perfect, yet I never fathomed it to be as it is now. From the time I was a child, I have always aspired to make a difference in people's lives. Observing my mother tirelessly working in the healthcare industry day and night has been the driving force behind my aspirations. When I reached the age of fifteen, my mother decided to pursue further education and elevate her expertise in the medical field. While I was happy to witness her commitment to education, this transition also meant a temporary interruption to our exceedingly close mother-daughter relationship. This meant I did not have the same frequency of interactions with her, leaving me with additional mental space to ponder my academic challenges without her comforting presence and guidance. Our dining area transformed into her dedicated study space; I have vivid recollections of strolling by each day, often catching glimpses of her immersed in her studies, her focus unwavering, completely oblivious to my presence. Despite the immense challenges she faced, my mother never voiced a single complaint or shed any tears. Instead, she imparted invaluable wisdom, instilling in me the belief that I possessed the capability to achieve anything I set my mind to, and reassured me she and God were unwavering pillars of support. When people ask me why I’m interested in the medical field my answer is always “because I want to be like my mom.” However, I was faltering and felt as though I was disappointing both my mom and me. It was hard to confront this challenge, and the circumstances at home made it even more difficult. My mother and I had resided with my stepfather from the time I was three years old. He was our gentle giant; his imposing stature was matched only by his immense kindness. However, over the course of a few months, his demeanor changed drastically. He began to exhibit severe verbal and mental aggression towards my mother and me, leaving us with no alternative but to relocate and commence a new chapter of our lives. I grappled with conflicting emotions, uncertain if my desire to remain was an act of selfishness. I desperately wished to avoid any further upheaval. At the time, I was merely a 16-year-old high school student who felt undeserving of such turmoil. This made focusing on my studies even more difficult. I was struggling with rigorous subject matter, but then also felt so alone. The absence of another adult in my home made it so my mom had to work more hours. The goal I had of being like her, was slipping away, and I had even less time to get reassurance from her. Surprisingly, the relocation proved to be incredibly beneficial for me, but unfortunately, I found myself gradually losing interest in my medical class. However, during this challenging period, a powerful memory emerged – the recollection of my mother overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Neither she nor I have ever been flawless, yet her resilience, sagacity, unwavering diligence, and commitment have always been a source of inspiration for me. Now, as I stand on the brink of completing my 12th-grade education, I am resolute in my determination to realize my aspirations of attending medical school. I have chosen psychology as my major and have high hopes to continue this as I begin my journey in college. I look forward to witnessing my journey to becoming a proficient psychologist, compassionate neonatal nurse, or dedicated physician assistant. I am exceedingly excited to render valuable contributions at some of the most bustling hospitals or medical practices in your community.
