I am an Intelligence Officer transitioning from the United States Army to pursue Nursing. Through military service, I have developed a unique perspective on care, compassion, and respect for all individuals.
I feel extremely privileged to have served alongside incredible people while in the Army. The feeling of camaraderie, people first, and mission is what I will miss most about service. As I transition from Soldier to civilian, I have come to realize that this feeling of service does not have to come to an end.
The impact these scholarships will have on me is preserving this feeling of camaraderie, people first, and mission. With these scholarships, I will be able to continue my public service. This time, as a nurse in the healthcare field. Taking from personal experiences while in the military, I want to translate the people first mentality to a patient first mentality.
In many ways, the qualities that are needed to be a great Soldier are the same qualities that are needed to be a great Nurse. Both require grit, passion, and purpose. Above all, both professions are selfless acts of service.
Nurses use their talents in the service of the greater good to benefit the lives of others and to make the world a better place. Discovering that I could use my talents as a soldier and translate what I enjoyed most in the Army to a healthcare setting excites me about becoming a nurse. I am more than ready to further my education and dedication to public service in the field of healthcare. This scholarship will help me get there.
