Bio

My interest in the medical field began quite early. With the influence of my mother who has been in the field since I was a child, it grew quite a lot. I began to become quite intrigued with how things work with the human body. I liked how smaller organs worked together to form an organ system creating this whole body system that works together to keep us alive. And when you look at and study the human body it fascinates you how every little thing plays a part in its makeup. If a major organ stops working it could affect the whole system. This has allowed me to want to learn more about healthcare. I’ve taken some classes to help me gain the basic knowledge I would need to push forward in the field which has helped a lot. With this knowledge I have gained, I have been able to go out into the community and teach the children how to protect their families, peers, and themselves. This has also, helped me learn how to save a life and able to teach others how to be prepared when facing critical situations. With this knowledge, I have gained future anticipation that I will be able to make a difference in the healthcare field and my community.

The world can be a cruel place most of the time, but can you find the light in those situations? Knowing you can make a difference can be encouraging to a person to push forward and strive further for their goal, so I will try. I noticed how rough things were growing up with a single mom and three kids striving, working 12-hour shifts to make ends meet. Why me, why her, why my siblings? She juggled so many things to keep this family going and to make sure we were not in need of anything. But, at what cost? Though she was striving to provide for our family she was also struggling too. She worked so hard to keep us going she forgot about herself. She struggled to keep herself in shape mentally which almost took her physically. I mean, there was her job “12-hour shifts, 3 children and college in the morning.” Enough to worry anybody and trust me when I say it was all over her. But, my mom is strong and she never gives up no matter how hard things can be. Though these things were happening she pushed forward and graduated from college, has many certificates under her name, and has even gone back a couple of times for different degrees. I have always been a little mature for my age but knew how to enjoy the moment. Being the oldest I knew had to step up a little with a couple of things, so I could ease the stress my mom produced by having to juggle all these things. My mom has been in the healthcare field since she graduated high school. She worked in different positions such as a phlebotomist and a dental assistant/coordinator; the list can go on. My mom has taught me to have a great work ethic and how to not give up. Her being able to pursue all of these careers has given me kind of an insight into the Health Care Field. When coming home she always told me about her day and the things she did, helping to bloom my interest in the medical field. I have researched many health care careers to pursue but one really stuck with me. I am working towards becoming an Obstetrics and Gynecology doctor. Being able to bond with patients and build relationships with these women on their journey would be an amazing thing to have. Though it will be a long journey I say it’s worth it. My mom being the only one to accomplish this much out of all her siblings wanted us to be able to reach even farther than she has. with the things we would like to accomplish in life. Her influence on me has grown me into the young adult I am now. Having the tendency to actually want to succeed in life and having a solid support system can take you to many places in life. And as my mom always says, “Shoot past the stars in everything you put your mind to, because you can accomplish greater.”
