Chidubé Bobby Lee Green, Jr. Nkiruka Memorial Scholarship
When I was six years old, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I enthusiastically replied that I wanted to be a baker who would feed all the homeless people. I believe I embody Chidubè’s value because I’ve been deeply committed to my spiritual and personal journey from a young age. I’ve always been drawn to introspection, seeking meaning and purpose in life, and striving to understand myself and the world on a deeper level. I always found joy in helping others, and I am committed to continuing to do so as I further my education and begin my career. I believe that our environment contributes to our lack of opportunities. By providing local underrepresented businesses with the resources, and support needed to improve their company we can build a sustainable sequence that continuously supports the community. My career goals are to become a marketing analyst specializing in helping smaller businesses and to establish a non-profit dedicated to empowering low-income families by offering career resources, job training, and job placement opportunities. My nonprofit will also make higher education and essential resources accessible to low-income families and students. As a first-generation student, I often looked for information regarding my future on my own. The support and guidance I expected to receive during this time were rarely offered to me. I didn’t have access to all the latest information, and I ultimately felt stuck and confined in four walls filled with despair, failure, and shame. My upbringing has influenced my career path heavily. In my early teens, I decided that I wanted to be able to assist many low-income families and underrepresented businesses. While extending my services to others I will connect with many families in need and provide them with assistance outside of just providing food, for instance, securing job applications, advocating for workplace opportunities, and dangerous and unethical living situations. By working to assist small businesses I can help these businesses flourish which will create jobs in the community which will in turn enhance these underrepresented communities. I will be able to aid students as they further their education and assist families as they access safe livable housing and other necessities. Through continuous hard work, research, and networking I will be able to expand my non-profit and marketing analyst career. My career will play a pivotal role in improving social and economic equality specifically in underrepresented communities like my own. I will be able to reach more individuals who need my services and make a bigger impact within our community. As I succeed in my career, the success within my profession will contribute to the success of many families, businesses, and students. My vision is rooted in a belief that everyone regardless of their background deserves a chance to thrive, and I am determined to influence that change.

The guilt and responsibility of being the eldest child will live with me forever. From a young age, it was my responsibility to take care of my sister and keep the house in tip-top shape while my mom worked three jobs with odd jobs on the side to make ends meet. Hearing my mom enter our home in the dead of night she laid another late payment notice on the table. I woke up to potentially raid the cabinets for whatever I could find, my eyes fixed on the envelope I quickly skimmed the paper and walked back into my room grabbing my last five dollar bill and quietly slipping the bill into the envelope. At around five in the morning, my mom called me into the kitchen with the envelope in hand. She pulled me into a deep hug and cried reassuring me everything would be fine. As much as I wanted to believe her I couldn’t. It seemed as if no matter how hard she worked it wasn’t enough. Seeing my mother work day in and day out to put food on our table and a roof over our heads truly inspired me. I vowed to make my mother proud and achieve everything she desired to accomplish. Being raised by a single mother shaped me into the woman I am today and the selfless child I was.  I believe that our environment contributes to our lack of opportunities. By providing underrepresented communities with the resources, and support needed to improve their lifestyle we can build a sustainable sequence that continuously supports the community by offering career resources, networking, and fellowship opportunities. My career aspirations include becoming a marketing analyst specializing in smaller businesses and establishing a non-profit dedicated to empowering low-income families by offering career resources, job training, and job placement opportunities. My nonprofit will make higher education and essential resources accessible to low-income families and students. As a first-generation student, the path to college has been overwhelming. With the lack of resources and access to information; I ultimately felt stuck and confined in four walls filled with despair and shame. This experience has shaped my career goals. By experiencing these challenges to get into college, I realized I wouldn’t want others to endure the same. In my early teens, I decided that I wanted to advocate for low-income families and underrepresented businesses. I'm dedicated to providing for families in need beyond food distribution, for instance, securing job applications, advocating for workplace opportunities, and dangerous and unethical living situations. By working to assist small businesses flourish I will create jobs that will enhance my underrepresented community. I will aid students as they further their education and assist families as they access safe, livable housing and other necessities. Through continuous hard work, research, and networking; I will expand my non-profit and marketing analyst career. I will reach more people in need of my services and overall make a life-altering impact within my community. As I succeed in my career, the success within my profession will contribute to the success of many families, businesses, and students. My vision is rooted in a belief that everyone regardless of their background deserves a chance to thrive, and I am determined to influence that change.
