Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish has profoundly inspired me to pursue my goals, demonstrating that authenticity and courage can transform dreams into reality, no matter how daunting the path may seem. When I listen to "ilomilo", "CHIHIRO", or "My Future," I am immersed in a world of creation that leaves me wanting to explore. While each of these songs has their fascination, a song that resonates deeply with me is “My Future” by Billie Eilish. This introspective and empowering piece delves into the anticipation of the future, the evolution shaped by past challenges, and the sense of enlightenment regarding one's impact on the world.
Released in the summer of 2020 during the peak of the pandemic, this song arrived at a time when many were grappling with uncertainty about the future and the trajectory of the world. The sense of the unknown, fueled by media narratives, left us all feeling disoriented. However, plenty of people found themselves becoming more introspective, discovering what truly brought them happiness and charting a course for personal growth that they may not have had a moment to focus on before. Personally, the song struck a chord with me as I faced the decision of committing to a college without having set foot on its campus. Dissatisfied with the options presented, I recognized that pursuing my true aspirations would demand considerable effort. When I first heard “My Future,” I found myself inspired to embark on the challenging path—enrolling in community college to apply to my dream school. Despite initial apprehension, I chose to trust the process and embrace my vision of the future. The lyric, “I’m in love with my future, can’t wait to meet her,” echoed my exact thoughts, resonating with the excitement and uncertainty I felt at the time. Listening back to this song now gives me chills, the future I envisioned at the moment I heard this song for the first time is what I am now living, and although it took so much to get here I am so proud of myself and the person I have become.
Although the world will continue to blind us with challenges and uncertainties, there remains an underlying optimism. We can all plan our lives to the best of our ability, but things happen that will hinder our movement and cause us to take a step back and reflect. The truth is we won’t know the future until we look back on where we came from and what we did to get there. Eilish talks about how she feels almost out of her body, can’t focus and is not physically present. I can often find myself stuck in my head and living life on autopilot, but when I think about all that I am doing I can breathe knowing it is for a bigger unfulfilled purpose. Eilish realizes she can’t be in love with someone else because she is still learning to love herself. With this moment comes an excitement for getting to know the person she is growing into and although that solemn mood is present, there is a reason it exists to remind her of what is ahead.
Overall, “My Future” is a beautiful piece and one that I hold close to my heart. It got me through my trials of doubt and I imagine it must have done the same for many others. It’s a song that I wish I could have made myself and one I will always remember when faced with asking myself, “What’s next?”
Bold Music Scholarship
I knew my world turned upside down the minute I saw All Together Now, a documentary on the making of the Beatles cirque du soleil show, Love. Growing up surrounded by Beatles fans, it felt only right that at a young age I’d learn their role in the popularization of rock music. The Beatles had an answer for everything and it was through this documentary that I found mine. In the documentary George Martin, the band’s record producer and the “fifth Beatle”, faces a challenge in restoring the Beatles music to make it perfect for the show. When coming across the song, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” they found a whimsical essence to a demo tape that George Harrison had previously recorded. Being that Harrison had passed away, this song now carried a new meaning. George Martin brought it into the studio and with the help of his orchestral group, they made the song a masterpiece. When it comes to music, I’m someone who has always gravitated towards strings and the genuine beauty of this track enamored me. Seeing someone so magisterial as George Martin transform this song flooded me with inspiration. My path became clear, and it was within that moment I realized I wanted to be a Music Producer. I longed to create the same feelings that were graciously given to me through this song. When I listen to the song now, I revert back to the emotions I felt when I heard it for the first time. I feel at ease of all worries knowing that the drive it gives me will never stop. If it weren’t for this piece I doubt I would be devoting my studies to this career and believe that it will bring me to my future destiny.
