Many students think of their future from very young. They start deciding on a dream career to pursue. Including me, I have been picking and thinking hard of my desire for a career. Now, that I am much older and have deciding on my major, I can say it was no easy task. Looking at my hobbies and interests, saying yes to schools, and so many other things have led to a decision. I have decided to pursue education as a career because of my childhood, the influence, and impact education can give to others.
From the beginning all I can remember form when I was younger was how much I love to learn. I love picking up books, watching documentaries, looking at articles, history videos, etc. I loved telling others about everything I learned. I would pretend to be a teacher with my siblings being my students. I would give homework and tell them to do different assignments. It was a fun time. I eventually evolved from playing pretend to actually thinking about it. I told myself I wanted to be a regular teacher, when I fell in love with music and foreign languages. I hold them both very close to my heart. They are two passions and interests I have. Music is a hobby of mine that I love. I sing, play flute, and am learning violin, piano, and guitar. I come from a Mexican family and learned both English and Spanish growing up. I love languages and wish to learn as many as I can. I told myself that if I am to be a teacher when I'm older it will be in either music or foreign languages.
Teachers are seen as just another job. A difficult one, and they don't earn a lot, but they are people with a huge responsibility on their shoulders. Teachers are tasked with the job to shape their students minds. Every student has one teacher for them that has made a lasting influence. Every students has a reason for remembering this teacher. Maybe by remembering our birthdays, them complimenting us, or even giving us a pencil when we need one. They are our trusted adult we go to when we need someone there for us. To watch us and be able to help in any way. Two of my biggest influences for being a teacher are my middle school choir and band director. I saw how they were ready to help evolve any students love for the arts. They were our biggest supporters. They remembered so many details about each student they had. Even alumni from past years. They have strong bonds with not just their students, but with the community as well. I saw their passion and dedication for their job and decided I want to be like that. They showed me how much fun you can have working. They are my biggest influences and forever will be.
Ever since I was young, I remember how much my parents cared about my education. My parents never had the pleasure of finishing school. Being from Mexico, they were forced to work to earn money for their families. My parents have worked for so long for my siblings and I. Education is a way people are able to grow, not just for themselves, but for others as well. I want to be an educator that makes education fun and understanding for others. Bringing people up for wanting to learn. Helping the spark they have for education and ambition to keep going. Learning everything they want and can.
