Everyone deserves the option to have equality to basic human needs . Sometimes within the African American community there aren't as many opportunity's to succeed in life and the cycle of poverty just trickles down to each generation. The cycle continues until just one person is given a chance to show their skills to accomplish something greater than themselves. As an immigrant from Haiti this wasn't always something I thought about until I got older. Coming from Haiti to America was a huge cultural change for me because for everything I new back home, it was the total opposite over here. To top it all off I had no friends didn't speak any English. Throughout the years I learned to adjust to my environment, started learning English, and made a few friends. I've noticed how the people at my schools always had nice clothes, shoes, even brand new phones. Although I was grateful for being put in a better situation than I was in back home in Haiti, I couldn't help but feel left out. even throughout high school my peers had nice cars when I was either walking or taking the bus.
With all of these material things constantly in my face it was hard not be overwhelmed but my father always reminded me that one day if I worked hard that I too could live a comfortable life. I took his wise words and embedded it into my brain to always work hard for what I want. My junior year of high school my father wasn't feeling well and ended up passing out while driving . We eventually discovered that he suffered from strokes which led to multiple extended hospital visits. Thankfully he made a full recovery and is now happy and healthy but one thing still remains. After his hospital visits we received the bill and were shocked to see a bill of more than six hundred thousand dollars. Although his health insurance covered a majority of that bill we were still left with still left with about seventy three thousand dollars to pay . Though I've always been interested in the healthcare field, that day really lit the spark for me. After seeing my dad in such a helpless state I thought about how many other people get to a point like that and how can they be helped. I knew I wanted to take care of people and help them on their journeys to a better life. My dad was lucky in the fact that he had health insurance , but with the current state of healthcare in the united states many people cant afford decent healthcare coverage. My plan is to open my own clinic providing service to those in need with affordable and flexible healthcare plans. I think this is the first step to changing humanity and if more people contributed to these types of ideas, the world wound be a better place.
