Bio

I am a third-year medical student with a unique perspective on healthcare. Growing up on a beef cattle ranch in a rural area, I developed a deep appreciation for the value of hard work, the importance of community, and the need for access to quality healthcare. As a child, I was exposed to the world of healthcare at an early age, as my family relied on medical professionals who traveled to our area to provide care for our livestock. Watching these professionals work in such challenging conditions, I developed a strong interest in the medical field. Through my experiences on the ranch, I developed a unique understanding of the needs of rural communities. I witnessed firsthand the struggles of individuals in rural areas to access quality healthcare and recognized the importance of having healthcare providers who understand and can relate to the unique challenges faced by these communities. This understanding led me to pursue a career in medicine, with a focus on obstetrics and gynecology. I recognize the significant impact that maternal and fetal health can have on a community and am determined to use my skills and knowledge to make a difference. As a medical student, I has actively sought out opportunities to serve rural communities. I have volunteered at clinics and hospitals in underserved areas, gaining valuable experience and developing a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these communities. My passion for serving underserved communities and commitment to providing quality healthcare make me an exceptional candidate for an OBGYN residency.

In the middle of a frigid February night, I found myself ankle-deep in a creek, gripping the calving chain of a heifer in labor. It was calving season, and my dad and I were doing everything we could to assist this exhausted mother in delivering her first calf. As she pushed and I pulled, the crisp, cold air filled our lungs. Despite the discomfort, I knew that ensuring the safety of both mother and baby was paramount. Growing up on a beef cattle ranch in Kansas, I witnessed the challenges faced by my family and community in accessing quality healthcare. All of my mother’s pregnancies were high-risk with pre-eclampsia with significant edema and sepsis with chorioamnionitis; due to the lack of OB care in the area, she had to travel hours for every appointment, costing her time, increasing family burden, and causing unfamiliarity with the provider and birthplace of her children. The scarcity of specialty care, financial difficulties, and limited local healthcare services acted as barriers to continuous care in my community, leading to detrimental repercussions for patients. Witnessing the outcomes of these patients fueled my determination to become an obstetrician and provide high-risk OB care to patients who otherwise would not receive this until the time of delivery. Throughout my medical education, I pursued experiences that allowed me to serve rural communities and gain insights into their unique healthcare challenges. From volunteering at JayDoc, a free medical student-run clinic, to working in a rural clinic through STORM, an elective summer clinical experience that focuses on rural medicine, I have sought opportunities to address the immediate needs of these communities and develop a comprehensive understanding of their healthcare landscape. During my OBGYN clerkship, my passion for women's health and high-risk pregnancy care continued to develop. Guiding patients through difficult labor to safe deliveries, mastering the technical aspects of gynecologic surgery, and educating women on fundamental aspects of their health provided immense satisfaction. It continues to be evident that the practice I envision for my future will help address the disparities in access to care for rural women. I am eager to contribute to the field of obstetrics and gynecology, bridging the gap in access to quality care for underserved populations. Through compassionate and comprehensive care, I aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of women and their families, empowering them to navigate the transformative journey of pregnancy and ensuring the delivery of safe and healthy babies. The memory of that night, watching the heifer’s final push and subsequent birth of a healthy calf, has etched in my mind a constant reminder of the privilege it is to be entrusted with the care of both mother and baby. I am ready to embrace the challenges and rewards that lie ahead in my pursuit of becoming a skilled and compassionate OBGYN serving in rural, underserved areas.

Growing up on a beef cattle ranch in rural Kansas, I developed a strong work ethic, a dedication to my community, and a passion for improving the lives of underserved populations. As a third-year medical student, I have found my calling in obstetrics and gynecology, and I am determined to use my skills to make a difference in the healthcare field. In rural America, limited access to quality healthcare is a significant challenge. As an aspiring obstetrician and gynecologist, I want to address this issue head-on by providing essential care to women in underserved areas. I am committed to making a positive impact on maternal and fetal health outcomes, and I know that my background growing up on a ranch has prepared me well for the challenges ahead. One of the key issues facing women in rural areas is the lack of access to prenatal care. This can have devastating consequences for both the mother and child, leading to complications that could have been prevented with proper medical attention. By focusing on obstetrics and gynecology, I can play a crucial role in improving maternal and fetal health outcomes, helping women in rural areas receive the care they need to have healthy pregnancies and births. In addition to providing quality medical care, I am passionate about empowering women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. Too often, women lack the knowledge and resources necessary to take control of their own health. As a physician, I want to work with my patients to educate them about their bodies and provide them with the tools they need to make informed decisions. I believe that patient education is a critical component of improving health outcomes. By creating a safe and welcoming environment where women feel comfortable discussing their reproductive health concerns, I can help reduce the stigma surrounding these issues and promote open communication. By empowering women with knowledge and resources, I hope to improve health outcomes and foster a culture of proactive reproductive health management. As I move forward in my medical training and pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology, I know that I will face many challenges. But I am committed to meeting these challenges head-on, using my work ethic and dedication to make a positive impact on the lives of my patients. Whether it's through providing quality medical care, educating women about their reproductive health, or serving vulnerable patient populations, I know that I can make a meaningful difference in the world of healthcare. In conclusion, growing up on a beef cattle ranch in rural Kansas has instilled in me a strong work ethic and dedication to my community. As a third-year medical student with a passion for obstetrics and gynecology, I am committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by women in underserved areas. Through patient education, quality medical care, and a dedication to vulnerable populations, I am determined to improve health outcomes and empower women to take control of their reproductive health.

I am a third-year medical student from rural Kansas, working towards applying to an OBGYN residency with future goals of returning to rural Kansas to work in primary care with an underserved population. Due to my rural upbringing on a cattle ranch, as well as exposure to the healthcare system through family members, I decided early on in my education to pursue a medical degree, with hopes of caring for vulnerable patient populations, including those in rural areas that do not have the same access to healthcare as those in metropolitan areas. Growing up on a beef cattle ranch has shaped me into the person I am today, and it has undoubtedly influenced my path in medical school. As a child, I learned the importance of dedication, hard work, and the value of life. Every day on the ranch required a tireless work ethic, with early mornings and late nights ensuring the health and safety of our animals. It was there that I learned to work well in chaotic environments and to keep a level head in times of crisis. These same characteristics have served me well in medical school. I've found that I thrive in high-pressure situations, and I enjoy the challenge of navigating complex medical cases. Additionally, growing up in a rural area with limited access to healthcare inspired me to pursue medicine as a career. I witnessed firsthand the challenges of obtaining quality healthcare in a rural setting, and I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those living in underserved areas. As I progressed through my medical education, my passion for obstetrics and gynecology grew. The miracle of new life has always fascinated me, and I find great joy in helping women through the childbirth process. Additionally, I've seen the devastating impact that a lack of access to reproductive healthcare can have on women and their families. As a Catholic medical student, I believe in the value and sanctity of life, and I want to provide quality care for women while upholding pro-life principles. I am now excited to pursue a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, with a long-term goal of practicing in a rural underserved area with pro-life leanings. I want to use my skills and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of women and families, while also giving back to the community that has shaped me into the person I am today. I am dedicated to working tirelessly to provide compassionate and comprehensive care to my patients, and I am excited to embark on this next chapter in my medical career.
