Bio

As future Captain Meli I strive to inspire many women to join the aviation industry. I am a child of two refugee Islamic parents who came to American from a genocide. I was raised on how important it is to chase your dreams. I became a professional makeup artist at only 18 years old. I work on many races, ethnic backgrounds, etc. I enjoy bringing beauty to others. I also model on the side to inspire many women to love their bodies, no matter their height or weight. A reason why I want to be a pilot, is to make the dreams of other immigrants come true. It was inspired by my parents story of coming here and I strive to bring many immigrants over to build their lives. To becoming Captain Meli, the Queer Muslim Female Pilot of America.

    Future of Aviation Scholarship
Aviation has changed not only my life, but the lives of those around me. My family came over here from Bosnia after the genocide with little to nothing on their backs. My father, a veteran, told me a great story that happened before the war. His cousins and him were out on his farm and one of them pointed to the sky. What they saw was an airplane flying overhead, and his cousin said, "One day that will be us going to America." They were only 14 years old and had no idea what they fully manifested. I strive to bring many people to their dreams with aviation. I want to encourage immigrants, women, young Queer adults to chase their dreams in aviation. To fully change someones life in a positive way is my aspiration with aviation. Being in the skies is a surreal feeling like no other. With working as a Flight Attendant as well, I've met many walks of life. I've learned to help calm others down, those who spoke little to no english, all with my kindness and effort to make their experience with flying better. Many don't realize how much aviation has transformed the lives of others. It brings people together in a way like no other. The beauty to see faces light up when they haven't seen their family members in years is a joy like no other. From military, to immigrants, to children, I get emotional each time. To watch younger children get excited to be invited to the Flight Deck shows them they can make their dreams come true. You don't realize the full impact you can have on someone else. My goal is to have a positive one on many. Becoming Captain Meli, someday soon in the future is going to take a lot of work. I don't reap the same benefits as others do, but that doesn't stop me from soaring the skies. I believe I will fully get there no matter what it takes. Each day brings me closer to my dreams in Aviation. With my current career at Delta Air Lines, the stories I hear with each passenger, it continues to fuel my drive in aviation. Children of immigrants push to succeed, and I choose to fly. To earn my wings is a privilege like no other. I look forward to being apart of others stories. Even if we never meet, because one day I will be bringing future immigrants to America, and that's going to completely change their lives.
