Bio

While I have many goals in life including those of starting a family and becoming a pediatric physician's assistant, my main goal in life is to spread kindness through everything I do. My favorite activities are dancing and singing and in both, I make a point to spread kindness not only through words but through laughter as well. Anyone who has ever known me has always described me as funny, I use this to my advantage! Aside from my more spontaneous side, I have always been a very driven young woman. I am in many extracurriculars in my school such as cheerleading, tennis, student council, National Honor Society, and Freshmen mentoring, to name a few. Within each and every one of those activities, I hold leadership positions and am often an advocate for others and new ideas. I would like to continue being a leader throughout college and beyond in whichever path I take.

Over the years I have heard stories about cancer and its horrible effects on people and their families, but I never thought that it would happen to someone my age. When I lost one of my best friends to cancer, I did not know what was to come or how I would be able to keep dancing. I used dance to cope with the frustration and the heartbreak on and off the stage. Losing Trevor made my dance team and me stronger and it also taught me to never take the days we get to dance together for granted. For me personally, I know he is with me every time I dance; he is the driving force within me and keeps me going on my hardest days. The day everything changed, was the day we found out about his cancer. It was the day of our first competition, and I still remember it so vividly. We realized that we would have to compete that night without him and did not have time to adjust formations or choreography. Later that night, I danced with tears streaming down my face but with so much passion. Looking back at that night, we all wished we would have known what was to come not even a year later being that that was our last opportunity to have him on stage with us before he started treatment. Fast forward eleven months, Christmas break was slowly coming to an end and Trevor was starting to get worse. The last Friday of break is a day that I will remember for the rest of my life. I woke up to a phone call from my mom and she told me that Trevor had passed away this morning and immediately I hung up and started to break down. That entire day was a feeling that I never want to relive but now I use that passion to catapult myself into life without Trevor. As I begin my fifteenth and final year of dance, I often catch myself thinking about all the conversations we had about getting Trevor healthy again over the next year or so and how we would then have our senior year together with everything back to normal. Although it doesn’t seem real that he really is gone I know I have no choice but to finish out strong, as hard as it might be. He crosses my mind multiple times a day and will always be an inspiration to me and so many others. The impact that he has made on my life and my entire dance studio is one that will never be forgotten. I will never forget how lucky I am to have such a sweet angel watching over me as I dance through life. I will always have a reason to live my life to the fullest and that is because I choose to live my life in honor of Trevor Luckey, the star that shined so bright in so many lives.
