I am a graduating senior at El Camino High School and will be a freshman at UCLA in the fall. I have been honored as San Mateo County’s Young Woman of Excellence in the 35th Women’s Hall of Fame for my leadership, community engagement, and academic excellence. I also received a Certificate of Recognition from South San Francisco Mayor and city council members, as well as a Certificate of Recognition from SSFUSD’s superintendent, to acknowledge my accomplishments in the community. In addition to my community recognition, I was awarded with the National African American Recognition Award for my high academic performance on the PSAT, College Board’s AP Scholar for passing 3 AP Exams, Student of the Month from the Mathematics Department, and High Honor Roll which I received quarterly throughout high school for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Outside of school, I have volunteered as a tutor for Project Speak Together (an online tutoring program that helps Ukrainian students learn English literacy) and for the non-profit organization Cancer Kids First where I create cards for pediatric cancer patients. My commitment extends into my passion for music, with nine years of piano study and annual performances at Golden Gate Park's Flower Piano event. I have also dedicated my time as a gymnastics coach for preschool and elementary students for nearly two years. In the coming year, I plan to study statistics and public health at UCLA to work towards my future career goal of becoming a biostatistician. In the field, I also hope to increase healthcare accessibility for marginalized communities.
