Helping others who are struggling with addiction is a serious matter. As my time as an E.M.T. for St. Louis I have seen many patients with many different outcomes when faced with addiction. As a nursing student, and hopefully a future nurse I feel almost as if I am a crucial role in supporting patients on their journeys to recovery.
First, addiction is no easy task to overcome. addiction is a complex and challenging condition that can cause severe physical, mental, and social consequences. By pursuing Nursing, I hope to be a lifeline by offering support and assistance. Helping individuals regain control of their lives and improve their overall wellbeing is the number one goal in mind.
Secondly, addiction does not just affect the user, it also affects family and friends. By being able to provide care and guidance to those who have struggled with addiction, ultimately, I want to be able to help strengthen relationships and build trust with their loved ones.
As a Nurse, I have the ability to make significant impacts due to this career. With nursing I will be given the education and resources to help provide for the individual and their families in matters of understanding and even coping mechanisms. Additionally, Knowledge that will be consumed include how to administer medical treatments and therapies that can help with withdrawal symptoms.
The role of a nurse goes beyond just the physical aspects of care. Care also includes support, empathy, and encouragement. By building these trusting relationships I believe that with my prior experience to helping those in need whether it be trauma or psychological I can help make my patients feel understood, valued and motivated to make positive changes if and when needed.
Although I am not sure where I may end up as a nurse healthcare setting wise, I do know that wherever I go each setting will offer unique opportunities to make a difference for ones struggling with addiction. Addiction is a multifaceted and complex issue so staying up to date is crucial when it comes to new and upcoming approaches. I plan to utilize resources such as nursing journals and research to continuously grow my knowledge and provide the best possible care for any and all my patients.
Overall, helping others who are struggling with addiction is important because it promotes healing, improves relationships, and can strengthen communities as a whole. As a Nurse I know I will use my career as a vessel to deliver compassion, care support and guidance on my patients journey to recovery, I hope this career guides me in a way to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
