Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
My name is Matthew Taiwo, an international student from Nigeria, Africa, also a first generation college student. My goals and ambition in life is to be a medical doctor, and make the world a better place. Though life as not always place itself before me on a platter of gold, I also have refused to let myself and my dreams down, I have pushed through every setbacks by the special grace of God, and has found my way in the united state, as an undergraduate studying nursing, I'm in my first year, in wheeling university, wheeling, WV. with a G.P.A of 3.7, and having promise myself it's going higher by the end of the semester.
I would describe myself as a goal getter, well disciplined and committed young man. and by God's grace I will achieve all I have set before me. My goal is to become a nephrologist and I won't stop until I become one and even more.
I was born and brought up in Lagos Nigeria, the first of three children of my parents, and from a very young age I am a big dreamer, and despite my parent not been all financial buoyant, they did and are still doing all they can to support me, By sending me to the United state of America to pursue my goals in the best way possible. They did not relent despite the economy of Nigeria having worsened, and they have been my Number 1 motivator and have always inspired me to do better and never to relent or give up on my goals.
Among many challenges I've faced are financial difficulty as I have limited options on financial aid and also not able to support my parents as it's illegal to work off campus while there are no jobs in the school. also from cultural differences as it took a while to get accustomed to foods, the weather and culture. it's a whole new and challenging experience for me
My post study plan after my first degree is to enroll in med school and become a medical doctor, serving the United state for a couple of years. This will be my way of giving back to them, after which I will return to my home country and use all I have learned in the United States to better the health sector of my country.
More importantly I am a Christian, not because my parents are, nor is it because I am named after a biblical name. I am a Christian and a child of God because I have seen and felt God in my 21 years of life and I have come to the conclusion that nothing can separate me from His love. He has been the reason we were able to overcome all adversities and if I am truly going to achieve my goals in life it can only be through Christ our savior, as I have experience him in divers of ways, and even when things were not looking good, he came to the rescue and gave my family and I a million miracles.
Getting this scholarship is not a right for me, but it will be a privilege and also a contribution towards achieving my goals, and grants you entry to my success story. my warm regards THANK YOU.
