MudPuddle’s Veterinary Scholarship
4H has always been an enormous part of my life, and as that is coming to an end I want to find a way can continue it. Plus 4H has taught me many things that could potentially play a role in me being a large animal vet.
I want to enter large animal medicine because I’ve learned from watching that large animal veterinarian are very passionate about their jobs. This especially holds close to my heart since I’ve dealt with large animals before and understand the patience and passion you need to have with them. Animals can sense your emotions I understand that if you are calm and focused on them they tend to cooperate better. I have personal experience of this with my one crossbred ram. His name is Rumplestilskin, he has infectious pododermatitis (foot rot). I’m used to working with him to check his hooves twice a week to see what’s going on and recently we had to give him two and a half milligrams of Draxxin to help calm the inflammation of his hooves, and we had to apply a topical gel to create a scab over the infection since he is in the meadow breeding.
I am looking to care for large animals like swine, beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, and horses. I want to mainly focus on the food for large animals since I have a grasp of it already planned out thanks to my 10 years in my county’s local 4H. Throughout my years in 4H, I’ve learned that our country and many states rely on animals that kids like me raise and show and then sell to slaughter. Since I know the amount of time and work, blood, and sweat that goes into these animals would like to further my education to help the future 4Her make sure their animals are healthy and at full growth and health quality to sell for slaughter or breeding.
Overall, I feel as though I would make a good applicant for this scholarship since I have ten years in 4H, and understand what it takes and cost to make sure the meat of large animals is healthy and cared for properly
