Dr. Alexanderia K. Lane Memorial Scholarship
In a world brimming with complexities, it becomes crucial to ponder why it is essential to lend a helping hand to those around us. Beneath the layers of philosophical beliefs and moral values, the act of helping others holds inherent significance that transcends cultural, religious, and personal boundaries. From the belief in Karma to the intrinsic joy it brings, and the yearning for a more compassionate world, there are multiple reasons why extending a helping hand plays a pivotal role in shaping a harmonious and fulfilling existence. For many, Karma serves as a guiding principle in life. The belief in cosmic justice, where actions and intentions eventually reap their consequences, instills a sense of responsibility towards others. By helping others, individuals strive to accumulate positive Karma, knowing that even if the rewards are not immediate, the universe will return the favor in due time. This conviction in Karma fosters a sense of interconnectedness and interdependence among all living beings, encouraging acts of kindness and compassion.
Even beyond the belief in Karma, helping others has a profound impact on personal well-being. Numerous studies have shown that engaging in selfless acts triggers positive emotions, leading to a sense of happiness and fulfillment. When we help others, our brains release chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin promoting feelings of pleasure and social bonding. This joy derived from helping others can uplift our spirits, reduce stress, and enhance overall mental and emotional well-being. Moreover, helping others creates an effect of goodness within our communities and the world at large. A single act of kindness can inspire others to do the same, triggering a chain reaction of compassion and love. The cumulative impact of these small acts of kindness can lead to significant positive changes, ultimately shaping a more compassionate and caring society. Furthermore, assisting others is a reflection of our shared humanity. Regardless of our backgrounds, cultures, or beliefs, we all experience moments of vulnerability and hardship. By helping others during their challenging times, we acknowledge our common struggles and triumphs, breaking down barriers of isolation and fostering a sense of unity. In this shared journey of life, the act of helping others becomes a means of reinforcing our interconnectedness, promoting empathy, and building bridges of understanding between individuals and communities.
The importance of helping others is further amplified when we consider the state of the world today. In a fast-paced and often individualistic society, acts of kindness can be a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. By extending a helping hand, we actively contribute to making the world a better place for everyone. The global challenges we face, such as poverty, inequality, and environmental crises, require collective efforts and a compassionate outlook. Embracing the value of helping others empowers us to be part of the solution and contribute to a brighter future for generations to come.
In conclusion, the importance of helping others goes beyond personal beliefs and extends to the core of our shared humanity. Whether grounded in the belief of Karma, seeking intrinsic joy, or yearning for a more compassionate world, the act of extending a helping hand has a profound impact on both the giver and the receiver. As we navigate through life's complexities, let us be guided by the understanding that helping others is not merely a choice but an inherent responsibility we all share. Together, through acts of kindness and compassion, we can create a world where love and understanding prevail, fostering a more harmonious and fulfilling existence for everyone.

Through proactive engagement with pro-life organizations and fostering open dialogues, I endeavor to contribute to a society that cherishes and protects all human life. By nurturing empathy and compassion, we can collectively work towards a future where every individual, from conception to natural end, is regarded with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Pay It Forward Scholarship
I believe that it is more important for us to help the present generation. Look I do believe that we should ensure that future goes well for generations to come but how can you do this if the present generation is not in the best shape. We should first focus on ourself before we start to focus on the future. If we are not able to fix the issues that are horribly affect the people of the time right now, how do we know that we will give the future nations the correct tips. One example has to be climate change. The only way that I see that we can ensure the future can go well is if we make changes within the present generations. We need to show this generation how to reduce their carbon footprint or have politicians make laws to make companies reduce the pollution that they put out in the world. Another example, would have to be the political divide in this nation. We can not do anything if congress is split. How can we make laws and policies to that we'll help future generations if we aren't even able to pass laws or policies that are facing the challenges that we have right in front of us right. I think that our generation is trying to fix issues in a way that will only benefit the future generations are not thinking about if we fix our issues first it can inevitability help and benefit the future generations as well. I hate the idea that we should put the future generations before our own. We have to first fix what is wrong in this generation so that the future generations would be able to actually happen and not be rely if we are doing the correct things that will benefit them before us.
AMPLIFY Immigrant Students Scholarship
Sometimes people are given barriers because God believes that this is the best way that they’ll learn, and I received a difficult barrier that had a major part in defining me as the student that I am. My parents decided that we would be able to make a better life in the United States. Leaving behind their families, friends, and their whole life. We moved to Los Angeles, where we were lucky to have some family friends. They allowed us to stay with them and even helped my dad find a job. Being in the United States would pose a challenge for my parents because they more comfortable with speaking Spanish. But for me it was different. Living in a household that spoke Spanish much more than English, led to me picking up Spanish quicker than English.
After having the hospitality of our family friends, we moved out to Elk Grove. Being that now we were in a different city that did not have a strong community of Spanish-speaking families, we had to learn more English. Now, I was starting kindergarten, which was scary for me because my English was very weak compared to my peers. Yet I still made it through kindergarten and started first grade. First grade started hard because on the first day we had to read ‘sight words’ (words that the school felt should be mastered this year). I remember my peers would read 25 or more words, but I was only read seven words. My teacher was nervous about my ability to pass. She had the school enroll me in the ELS program. In that program, I would leave my class joining a couple of students in learning about speaking and pronunciation. My mom wants to help me, began to review all the sight words as if they were a religion. After diner, I had to be able to read 10 words. Also once the spelling tests began, she stepped in with the studying. Every morning she would on the car ride to school, she tested me on every word. And by the end of the week, I was able to spell all of them.
My mother was my main motivator, helping me overcome this educational barrier. She didn’t want anyone to think that I wasn’t a bright student, due to me learning Spanish first. She was the one that stayed with me at night, just so I could read the same ten words correctly. She helped me boost my confidence in English. Moreover, she taught me that no matter the barrier, all I needed was to stay determined. Learning this in the first grade, second grade became easier. Now I was studying for my spelling tests by myself and passing them. Even though I had this new confidence, I was still in the ELA program because I still had mispronouncing issues. But I was going less, until three grade. I received a nearly perfect score on both my English and Math sections on the state testing. With that, my confidence was at a new time high. For me, I was more excited that I achieved a near-perfect score in English. With my new level of confidence, as well as my determination, I began to work towards making something huge out of the life-changing risk that my parents took.

Sadly there are so many problems that the world is facing right, but the one that I think is the biggest one has to be the world's divided view on climate change. We have scientists telling us that due to our carbon emissions, we will end the world by the year 2050. Here's where the divide is showing. On one side we have people and politicians that are trying to slow down the effects by writing laws limiting businesses how much CO2 that they can pump into the sky. Or there is also the regular people that are making changes to their lifestyle by driving their gasoline power car or by going electric. Yet these changes are counteracted by those that do not believe in climate change. Politicians that are allowing businesses to pollute the area or people that we continue using these gasoline-powered cars without reducing the amount they use it. I think that the only solution, which is the hardest has to be that we need to get everyone to be on the same page. We as a human on this Earth, we need to come together to keep the Earth alive for future generations. This is probably the hardest solution to an issue. There is also the solution to try to get our world leaders to come together and make it their responsibility to be the leaders of this change. They need to make laws that will force everyone even the non-believers to make a change. Yet I believe that the first solution we can take as individuals is making lifestyle changes such as removing or minimizing our Carbon emissions. This will be a super hard challenge for the world to solve.
Mahlagha Jaberi Mental Health Awareness for Immigrants Scholarship
I, Mariano Sanchez, am a proud undocumented immigrant from Mexico. Being able to say that, let alone writing it for a random person to read, has been extremely hard. I first learned about being undocumented back in my freshman year of high school. I struggled with the thought that my parents and I are here in this country without documents. I ended up feeling very different from friends and even from my younger brothers. The feeling different from people that were close to me affected me. I would have to struggle with the idea of being at a slight disadvantage, a couple of examples would be: not being able to work, if I happen to get in trouble with the law, I could be deported, not being able to travel to Mexico to visit my grandpa that has gone through multiple surgeries recently. All of these issues made me overthink everything. Overthinking would affect the amount of sleep that I would get. After overthinking bigger future issues, it grew into overthinking small issues like if what would I eat for lunch and how I would make it, and so on. These challenges are weighed heavily on my mind but now that I filed paperwork to get a Social Security Number. Being able to send in the paperwork to become a dreamer has given me a reason to worry less about it. Yes, I still think about the "what's if" but at least now I know that soon I will be able to do more. I will be able to work, which will help me and my parents pay for my school.
In the fall of 2021, I will be attending Cal Poly SLO, majoring in Applied Mathematics. I would also like to minor in Computer Science. During that time, I would like to work. A starting-level job will be able to benefit me in multiple ways. I will be able to help my parents to pay for my school and will have some money for extra expenses. Also, I can build and work skills that can help me for future job applications. I am shooting to graduate in four years. It's a big goal of mine because an extra year will cost me more. After earning my B.A. in applied mathematics, I want to continue my education and get a master's in Math. After getting a master's in math, I wish to have a career in engineering or computer science.
