Bio

My ultimate career goals involve becoming a foot and ankle surgeon, working in private practice in the fields of sports medicine or regenerative medicine, and working for a professional sports team. I am passionate about advancing medicine and science so I will continue publishing research. I am passionate about community service, so I want to create a free or low-cost clinic, travel with Doctors Without Borders to help those in developing countries for the betterment of humanity, and developing an app for on-call concierge doctors that helps connect with patients. I deserve this scholarship as I am a passionate, drive, hard-working individual who is dedicated to the betterment of humanity, as shown through my unique experiences and accomplishments. I have a deep love of learning and am choosing to go into a difficult field to help humanity My unique experiences and accomplishments include being a published scientist by the age of 22, helping found a program for a nonprofit organization, becoming a business owner as a full-time graduate student, being an advocate for underrepresented minorities, and having a unique background. I have been an author on more scientific publications compared to other people my age. At 26, I have published three scientific journals, studying the prevention and detection of human disease. I am going to be an author on at least 3 or 4 more publications before I start medical school this year, in the fields of mycology and immunology. My research will not stop but change fields as I enter medical school and become a physician. One can search my name on PubMed.gov or find my papers through the following PMIDs: 31606748, 31295438, 31166422. I helped found the internship program for a nonprofit organization, Save the Cord Foundation, and I will be the head when the founder steps down in just a few years. This organization provides education and advocacy for both private and public cord blood donation, which have life-saving qualities and has been found to treat over 80 diseases. I am an advocate for underrepresented minorities, demonstrated through my work with Save the Cord and the Arizona Public Cord Blood Program. The program helps minorities donate and store cord blood at no cost, as minorities are underrepresented in cord blood donation banks. I am a business owner; earlier this year I founded an all-natural, chemical-free bath and body product company, Love Bath and Body (www.lovebathandbody.us). This shows my passion for science and providing healthy products. Lastly, I have a unique background: I was born in Mexico and am the first in my family to attend graduate school, and now medical school. I have faced adversity through my obstacles such as having a tumor removed at eight years old and tearing my ACL, meniscus and obtaining an osteochondral defect in college, needing to go through surgery, recovery, and physical therapy all while still going to school full time; I made it on the honor roll this, which was such an accomplishment for myself). I have worked full time in undergraduate and graduate school to pay for my education, showing my commitment and drive.
