I'm currently a Senior at Boston Latin Academy trying to make the world a better place by helping marginalized communities out, especially in the Chinatown, Boston community. I hope one day I'll be able to start my own non-profit and help people the way I needed help once.

Ultimate K-Pop Stan Scholarship
I wasn't immediately captivated by the visuals, music, or dancing. It was Zerobaseone, a newly-formed group, that had already piqued my interest even before their official debut in July. My heart had been set on them ever since their days as trainees on "Boys Planet." Like all K-Pop idols, they had undergone grueling training periods, dedicating months or even years to perfecting their singing, dancing, and rapping skills. I had taken K-pop idols’ talent for granted, assuming they were born with the natural ability to sing and dance as if they were unreal.
"Boys Planet," a Korean survival show featuring 50 Korean trainees and 50 international trainees, opened my eyes to the harsh realities of the K-Pop industry. For months, I cherished the memories of tuning in every Thursday to witness my favorite boys, reminding me that idols were indeed human beings.
From clips of their demanding training sessions to caring for each other in the dorms, my emotions were constantly fluctuating between both positive and negative sentiments. Particularly Zhang Hao, an international trainee from Yuehua Entertainment left a mark on my heart. Among the many moments in "Boys Planet," one that stood out to me was a Korean trainee remarking that international trainees could never surpass the Korean trainees because they lacked the same cultural roots. For a brief moment, I found myself in agreement, puzzled by the idea of someone unfamiliar with the Korean language and culture aspiring to become a K-pop idol. However, Hao shattered my preconceptions.
His remarkable journey served as a powerful force of determination to me. From a family unable to afford amusement park tickets to achieving top academic standing at a prestigious Chinese university, and ultimately embarking on a path to Korea to pursue a career as a K-Pop idol. Witnessing his ascent to prominence with each passing episode, eventually emerging as the central figure in Korea's distinguished 5th generation K-Pop group, was a profound source of inspiration for me.
I had come to understand the true essence of K-pop idols and why they were aptly named as such. They were meant to serve as our role models, individuals we could admire and draw inspiration from. Many netizens have assumed that Hao's entry into the K-pop industry was solely due to his visuals, but his journey tells a different story. It was a powerful reminder that you’d never know the depth of hard work with a glance.
Despite growing up with less than most people, I also believe I’ll be able to accomplish greater things than most people through dedication and commitment. Zerobaseone members carry so many more stories and listening to their music acts as a reminder for me to continue chasing my aspirations.
