Sunshine Legall Scholarship
Throughout the years I was unsure of what career I wanted for myself. I had so many questions about my future but never any answers. I recently enrolled back into school, after being away for more than 10 years. I had to take a hard look at myself and think about what brings me happiness. I have always been goal-driven, detail-oriented, and a true team player. I believe in always putting my best foot forward and thriving in social environments. I enjoy making everyone feel welcome and I do not tire of crafting every detail to deliver beyond what is asked of me. Growing up I was always told that I should smile more because I have strong facial expressions. I never genuinely liked my smile as a child because of my insecurity. Going to the dentist helped my self-esteem and it gave me the confidence to smile. I want people to feel comfortable seeking professional help, and to have a healthy smile. Unfortunately, proper dental care is not accessible to all people. In a perfect world, everyone would have access to affordable care; However, that isn't yet the case. I want to become a dental hygienist. My goal is to join the dental hygiene program. I want to do hands-on work that helps people improve their oral and overall health. It only takes two years to earn an associate degree in dental hygiene to start your career. Being a dental hygienist has its perks. Dental hygienists earn competitive wages and enjoy flexible work schedules. This is important to me because I'm a new mother and I need to be able to provide for my daughter. I want to set an example as a black woman, we make up about 3% of all dental hygienists. By entering this field I’m increasing that number and positively impacting other young black girls to know that they too are capable. Furthering my education is key to working towards my career goals in the dental field. I would be the perfect candidate for this scholarship based on my love for learning. I'm passionate about self-growth and learning new skills I can use daily. I aim to make a difference in my community, and this scholarship will be the difference-maker when it comes to affording my education. While I may receive federal financial aid, it may not be enough to cover my school expenses. This scholarship will help me afford college and reach my academic and career goals. If I were awarded this scholarship, it would be extremely special as I have never won a scholarship before. It would set the tone and motivate me to push myself to finish school. Winning this scholarship allows me to spend more time studying and earning better grades. This scholarship can help me get closer to my dream of becoming a dental hygienist.

Jeannine Schroeder Women in Public Service Memorial Scholarship
Throughout the years I was unsure of what career I wanted for myself. I had so many questions about my future but never any answers. I recently enrolled back into school, after being away for more than 10 years. I had to take a hard look at myself and think about what brings me happiness. I have always been goal-driven, detail-oriented, and a true team player. I believe in always putting my best foot forward and thriving in social environments. I enjoy making everyone feel welcome and I do not tire of crafting every detail to deliver beyond what is asked of me.
