Hello! My name is Maklyne cesar. As a black woman, I have always felt a strong sense of responsibility to help my community. One way I believe I can make a meaningful impact is by becoming a family nurse practitioner.
Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) play a crucial role in providing primary care to underserved populations, including many black communities. As a FNP, I would have the opportunity to address health disparities and improve health outcomes for my community by providing preventative care, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and managing chronic conditions.
Furthermore, as a FNP, I would have the ability to work independently and autonomously, allowing me to make decisions that best serve my patients without the constraints of a traditional hierarchical healthcare system. This autonomy is particularly important as a black woman, as it allows me to actively work towards dismantling systemic inequalities in healthcare and ensuring that my patients receive the best possible care.
Additionally, becoming a FNP would also provide me with a unique opportunity to serve as a role model and mentor for other black women interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.
In my school, I am the Treasurer of Community Service for the National Honor Society, the Co- Founder of the golf Club, and Vice-President of life after high school club. In addition, I was a state semi-finalist in the PS art competition.
I am grateful to the Bold.org donors for their consideration and assistance in assisting me to become a traveling nurse and, later, a nurse practitioner.

Collaboration & Diversity in Healthcare Scholarship
In today's fast-paced and ever-evolving healthcare landscape, the importance of collaboration and diversity cannot be overstated. These values play a critical role in advancing the medical field and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. As a future nurse, it is essential that I understand and embrace these values in order to effectively contribute to the healthcare community.
Collaboration is essential in healthcare because it allows healthcare professionals to share knowledge and expertise, resulting in better treatment and outcomes for patients. When healthcare professionals work together, they can pool their resources and skills to identify and solve problems, resulting in more efficient and effective care. Furthermore, collaboration allows healthcare professionals to better understand and appreciate the perspectives of others, which can lead to more inclusive and patient-centered care.
Diversity is also crucial in the healthcare field, as it allows for the representation of different perspectives and experiences. When healthcare professionals come from diverse backgrounds, they can better understand and relate to the needs of patients from different cultures and backgrounds. This can lead to more effective communication and better outcomes for patients. Additionally, a diverse healthcare workforce can help to combat bias and discrimination in healthcare, which can have serious negative consequences for patients.
As a future nurse, I will apply these values by actively seeking out opportunities to collaborate and learn from my colleagues. I will also make a conscious effort to understand and appreciate the perspectives of patients from diverse backgrounds, and to advocate for their needs within the healthcare system. Furthermore, I will strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for patients and colleagues alike.
One past experience that has helped me to understand the importance of collaboration and diversity was my involvement in the national honor society in high school. As part of this organization, I had the opportunity to work with peers from diverse backgrounds on a variety of service projects. This experience taught me the importance of listening to and valuing the perspectives of others, as well as the importance of working together to achieve a common goal.
For example, I collaborated with a group of peers to organize a fundraiser called toys for tots for impoverished children, as well as another event in which we collected blood for a hospital. We were a diverse group with a variety of interests and skills who came together to plan and execute the event. This experience taught me the value of collaboration, as we were able to accomplish more as a group than we could as individuals. Furthermore, both events were a success, and we were able to raise a substantial amount of toys for children as well as blood for hospitals.
In conclusion, collaboration and diversity are essential values in the healthcare field, as they allow healthcare professionals to share knowledge and expertise, and to better understand and appreciate the perspectives of others. As a future nurse, I will apply these values by actively seeking out opportunities to collaborate and learn from my colleagues, and by making a conscious effort to understand and appreciate the perspectives of patients from diverse backgrounds. My past experience in the national honor society has taught me the importance of these values and has helped me to understand how they can be applied in real-world settings.

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to receive a plethora of financial advice from various sources. However, there is one piece of advice that stands out above the rest: "Live below your means." This simple yet powerful statement has not only helped me to better understand the importance of budgeting and saving, but it has also served as a guiding principle for me as I navigate my college career and plan for my future as a nurse.
To fully understand the significance of this advice, it is important to first understand the concept of living below one's means. Essentially, it means spending less than one earns and saving the excess for future expenses or investments. This can be achieved through budgeting and mindful spending, which allows individuals to prioritize their expenses and make more informed financial decisions.
As a college student, I have found this advice to be particularly useful in managing my finances. It has allowed me to avoid the common pitfall of overspending, which can lead to unnecessary debt and financial stress. Instead, by living below my means, I have been able to save a portion of my income for future expenses, such as tuition and living expenses, while also having the freedom to enjoy my college experience without the burden of financial stress.
Investing in my future is another crucial aspect of the financial advice I have received. This includes saving for retirement, investing in stocks, and contributing to a college savings plan for my future children. It is a reminder that the financial decisions I make today will have a direct impact on my financial future. As a future nurse, I know that my career will be demanding and will require a significant amount of time and energy. Investing in my future allows me to have a sense of security and peace of mind, knowing that I am taking steps to secure my financial well-being.
Furthermore, this advice has also helped me to better understand the importance of budgeting and saving for the long-term. As a future nurse, I understand that the road ahead may be filled with financial challenges, such as student loan repayment and the costs of continuing education. However, by living below my means now, I am setting myself up for financial success in the future by building a strong foundation of savings that I can rely on. Additionally, I plan to stay informed about financial options and opportunities, such as 401(k) plans and other retirement savings accounts, in order to make the most of my earnings and ensure financial stability in the long-term. I also plan to stay informed about the benefits and drawbacks of student loan refinancing and consolidation, in order to manage my student loan debt in the most effective way possible.
Adding on to these financial strategies, I also plan to prioritize education and professional development in order to increase my earning potential as a nurse. This includes seeking out continuing education opportunities and certifications, as well as staying informed about the latest trends and developments in the field. By focusing on my career and financial well-being, I believe that I can achieve my financial goals and live a comfortable and fulfilling life.
In addition to budgeting and saving, this advice has also led me to consider other financial options, such as investing. By living below my means, I have been able to set aside a portion of my income for long-term investments, such as a retirement fund or a stock portfolio. This not only provides financial security for the future, but it also allows me to take advantage of compound interest and the potential for growth in the stock market.

Financial literacy is a crucial aspect of life that enables individuals to make informed decisions about their money and future. Unfortunately, many people lack the knowledge and skills to effectively manage their finances. As a result, they may struggle with debt, miss out on investment opportunities, or face other financial challenges. As someone who is passionate about personal finance and wants to empower others to take control of their financial futures, I am committed to educating myself and others about financial literacy.
To begin with, I plan on educating myself about financial literacy by reading books, articles, and other resources on the subject. I will seek out reputable sources of information and make sure to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and best practices in personal finance. Additionally, I will take online courses and attend seminars or workshops that focus on financial literacy. By doing so, I will be able to gain a deep understanding of the subject matter and learn new strategies for managing my own finances.
Once I have a solid grasp of the basics of financial literacy, I plan on educating others by sharing what I have learned. I will start by talking to my friends and family about personal finance and encouraging them to take an interest in the subject. I will also share my knowledge with my peers and colleagues by creating a blog or podcast on the topic. Furthermore, I will volunteer to speak at schools, community centers, and other organizations to spread awareness about financial literacy and offer practical advice to those who are interested.
In addition to educating myself and others about financial literacy, I also plan on taking action to improve my own financial situation. For example, I will develop a budget and stick to it, create a savings plan, and invest in assets that will generate income. I will also be mindful of my spending habits and make sure to avoid unnecessary expenses. By taking these steps, I will be able to demonstrate to others how financial literacy can help them achieve their own financial goals.
In conclusion, financial literacy is an essential skill that everyone should possess. By educating myself and others about personal finance, I can help empower people to take control of their financial futures. Through reading, online courses, and volunteering, I will gain the knowledge and skills I need to make informed decisions about my money. Additionally, by sharing my knowledge with others and taking action to improve my own financial situation, I will inspire others to do the same. Ultimately, my goal is to help create a financially literate society where people can make smart choices about their money and achieve their financial goals.

Najma Sultana Memorial Scholarship
As a high school student, I am deeply concerned about the rising health issues that are emerging in our society today. These issues, including pandemics, are not only a threat to individual health and wellbeing, but also to the stability and security of our communities and the world. In order to prevent a future pandemic, I plan to work on solving emerging health issues through a variety of different strategies.
The first step in solving emerging health issues is to raise awareness about the importance of preventative measures. This can be done through educational campaigns, community outreach programs, and social media campaigns. By educating people about the dangers of pandemics and other health issues, we can empower them to take proactive steps to protect themselves and their families. For example, we can teach them about the importance of getting vaccinated, practicing good hygiene, and staying informed about the latest health news and updates.
Another important strategy for preventing pandemics is to improve access to healthcare for everyone. This can be done through a variety of different measures, such as expanding access to medical care for low-income and marginalized communities, increasing funding for research and development of new treatments and vaccines, and strengthening health systems to better respond to outbreaks. By ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare, we can help to prevent pandemics by identifying and treating health issues early on, before they have a chance to spread.
In addition to these strategies, I also believe that it is crucial to address the underlying social and economic factors that contribute to pandemics and other health issues. For example, poverty, inequality, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation all contribute to the spread of disease. By addressing these underlying issues, we can help to create a more equitable and sustainable world in which everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
One of the ways that I plan to work on solving emerging health issues is through volunteering. I will volunteer in hospitals or healthcare centers, where I will be able to assist in care and management of patients, and get a firsthand experience of how healthcare is managed. I will also volunteer in health awareness campaigns, where I will be able to educate the public on how to prevent and treat various diseases.
Another way that I plan to work on solving emerging health issues is through research. I will participate in research studies and projects, where I will be able to contribute to the understanding of how diseases are caused and spread. I will also conduct my own research, where I will be able to explore new and innovative ways of preventing and treating diseases.
Finally, I will also work on solving emerging health issues through advocacy. I will advocate for policies that promote health and wellbeing for all, and for the strengthening of healthcare systems. I will also advocate for greater funding for research and development of new treatments and vaccines.
In conclusion, in order to prevent a future pandemic, we must work on solving emerging health issues through a variety of different strategies. This includes raising awareness about the importance of preventative measures, improving access to healthcare for everyone, and addressing the underlying social and economic factors that contribute to pandemics and other health issues. By working together and taking proactive steps, we can create a healthier and more sustainable world for all.

As a child, I witnessed the devastating effects of the earthquake in Haiti. The destruction and loss of life were overwhelming, and it was difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the disaster. I was deeply moved by the bravery and selflessness of the medical professionals who were working tirelessly to help those in need. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse, so I could help others during times of crisis. I was struck by the compassion and dedication of the nurses and other healthcare professionals who were working with limited resources to provide essential care to those who were suffering. Their unwavering commitment to their patients, even in the face of such unimaginable adversity, made a profound impression on me.
I have always been drawn to the nursing profession because of its focus on providing holistic care to individuals and communities. Nurses are responsible for not just treating physical symptoms, but also addressing emotional, mental, and social well-being. This holistic approach is particularly important during times of crisis, when people may be struggling not just with physical injuries but also with emotional trauma and mental health issues.
I am particularly interested in becoming a family nurse practitioner because of their unique role in providing primary care to patients of all ages. Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are advanced practice nurses who are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions. They work in partnership with physicians to provide comprehensive care to patients and families, and they play an important role in addressing health disparities in underserved communities.
As a FNP, I would have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. I would be able to provide care to patients across the lifespan, from newborns to the elderly. This would allow me to develop a deep understanding of the unique health needs of different age groups, and to build long-term relationships with patients and families.
One of my main goals as a FNP would be to work in communities that are at high risk of experiencing natural disasters. I want to be able to provide essential primary care to people who are living in areas that are prone to earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. I believe that by working in these communities, I would be able to make a real difference in the lives of people who are at high risk of suffering from the physical and emotional effects of natural disasters.
In conclusion, the experience of witnessing the earthquake in Haiti as a child has had a profound impact on me. It has strengthened my desire to become a nurse, and has motivated me to pursue a career as a family nurse practitioner. I am particularly drawn to the holistic approach of the nursing profession, and I am excited about the opportunity to work in underserved communities that are at high risk of experiencing natural disasters. I am committed to providing compassionate and high-quality care to patients and families, and to making a positive impact on the communities that I serve.

This has been especially evident in my involvement in the Heroes Donate Blood Club. This club is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of donating blood and encouraging others to do so. Through this club, I have been able to demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity.
Donating blood can be a difficult and daunting task for many people, especially those who have never done it before. However, I have been able to inspire others by showing them that donating blood is not only an act of kindness but also a demonstration of resilience. By facing my own fears and showing others that it is possible to do so, I have been able to inspire my peers to step out of their comfort zones and make a difference in the lives of others.
In conclusion, resilience is a trait that is highly valued in today's society, and it is something that I have had the opportunity to demonstrate throughout my high school career. Through my involvement in the National Honor Society and the Heroes Donate Blood Club, I have been able to inspire my peers and show them that resilience is an important quality to have.
