Bio

Hello! My name is Maggie Ho and I am a second generation, proud Asian American female who has an undeniable passion to make a difference in everything that I do. I am forever inspired by my late mom who lost her battle with cancer in 2016, as she has shown me what the spitting image of strength and sacrifice means. I strive to blaze through life with kindness, compassion, and the strength she has given me. I'm currently an incoming senior pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Communications at California State University in Fullerton. I have always loved meeting people and hearing their stories, which led me to pursue my degree in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. Later down the road, I hope to start my own business and a non-profit to support Cancer victims and their families. As the eldest, I have worked diligently to support my family while working towards my future. During the pandemic, my father lost his job and to this day, I remain a supporter and contributor to my family. Working and attending school full time, while taking steps towards my future has been difficult but also very rewarding. I hope to make a remarkable mark on whatever I do, whether it be through my work or personally. I want to move through life, forever growing, learning, and always improving.

    Book Lovers Scholarship
I have always had a love for words, whether it be ink printed uniformly onto pages of a hardcover book or on a well-known website dedicated to fanfiction. Whatever it may be, my free time is comprised of reading words I'm fond of and a cup of tea. My friends and family have always assumed that if they asked I would have a book recommendation ready for them, which I would. Nevertheless, a novel that I would then recommend if they were to finally ask, would be "Fahrenheit 451." The general response I would usually get from my recommendation would be questions about the title or they would respond with, "That book? I read that in high school." What better book to recommend than a book about books? A classic novel that has everything a reader loves, excitement, passion, symbolism, and plot twists. When I first read "Fahrenheit 451" written by Ray Bradbury, my first thought was how ironic it was to be reading a novel about a society forbidden to read books. My second thought was how outrageous it was that human curiosity to learn and read could be considered such a sin. Literature is essential to one's creativity and individuality because it encourages readers to simply think beyond what the norms are. Bradbury's novel sparked a fire in me, which has followed me from when I first read "Fahrenheit 451" on a random weekday in middle school to now, in my early 20s. To this day, I will always challenge whatever information is being presented and I will never conform to something that I don't believe in.
