Hello, my name is Madinah Bazzi. I am currently an 18-year-old senior at Fordson High School and I'm super excited to start this new chapter in my life. One way I would describe myself is that I am a natural humanitarian who is known in my community for making a difference. From a young age, I was always taught to stand for what's right and to provide for the world when in need. I'll always carry that with me for the rest of my life and put it to use. Furthermore, I am an extreme goofball who is always down for some fun- whether that would be going out with my family, having fun banter, or just being my utmost self. Lastly, I'm very interested in many many things- so much to the point where I have a hard time figuring out one thing I could possibly do when I could just do them all. With that being said, I consider myself a well-rounded individual.

As a senior who finds joy in giving back to my community while cherishing personal time, my journey has been deeply influenced by both direct and indirect encounters with cancer. These experiences have not only shaped my perspective on life but have also fueled my academic and professional aspirations, igniting a passion to make a positive impact in the field of healthcare.
Growing up, cancer cast a shadow over my family, leaving an indelible mark on my life. My grandfather's battle with stage four leukemia was a defining moment that altered the trajectory of our family's journey. His courage in the face of adversity, coupled with the unwavering support of our loved ones, taught me the power of resilience and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we hold dear.
Tragically, my grandfather's journey ended in loss, leaving a void in our lives that could never be filled. However, his legacy of strength and perseverance continues to inspire me to this day, serving as a guiding light in my pursuit of academic and professional excellence.
A few years later, cancer once again made its presence known, this time touching the life of my first cousin. Diagnosed with stage four leukemia, her battle was fraught with uncertainty and fear. Witnessing her journey from diagnosis to survival was both harrowing and uplifting, underscoring the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit.
These indirect encounters with cancer have profoundly shaped my outlook on life and instilled in me a sense of purpose and determination. They have fueled my commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by the disease and have guided my academic and professional aspirations.
As a senior who values community involvement and personal growth, I have actively sought out opportunities to give back and make a meaningful impact. From volunteering at local cancer support centers to participating in fundraising initiatives, I have dedicated myself to raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for increased access to healthcare services for individuals and families affected by cancer.
Moreover, my experiences have inspired my academic pursuits, leading me to explore the intersection of healthcare and social impact. I am passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare, where I can leverage my academic background and personal experiences to contribute to advancements in cancer research, patient care, and advocacy.
In conclusion, my journey has been shaped by the resilience and strength of those affected by cancer. Through both direct and indirect encounters, I have learned the importance of empathy, compassion, and the power of community in overcoming adversity. As I embark on the next chapter of my academic and professional journey, I am committed to honoring the legacy of my loved ones by dedicating myself to making a positive impact in the fight against cancer and ensuring that no one faces this journey alone.
1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
If the soundtrack of my year were to echo the highs and lows, the triumphs and setbacks, there's no doubt that Taylor Swift's reimagined album,1989, would be a central feature. Each track encapsulates so many emotions and experiences that have defined my journey, resonating with themes of resilience, growth, and self-discovery.
One song from 1989 (Taylor's Version) that would undoubtedly find its place on my year's soundtrack is "Shake It Off." This upbeat anthem embodies the spirit of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. It's a reminder to shrug off negativity, embrace authenticity, and keep moving forward despite the challenges that may arise. Though the year has just fairly started, I've encountered moments of doubt and uncertainty, but "Shake It Off" serves as a rallying cry, urging me to brush off setbacks and maintain a positive outlook, plus I get to bust a couple of moves while listening to it.
Another track that would accompany the soundtrack of my year is "Blank Space." While on the surface, it may seem like a tale of romantic intrigue, its deeper message resonates with me on a personal level. "Blank Space" speaks to the power of rewriting one's narrative, embracing vulnerability, and reclaiming agency over one's life. In moments of doubt or self-doubt, this song serves as a reminder that I have the ability to redefine my story, turning perceived flaws into strengths and embracing the complexity of my identity.
Additionally, "Wildest Dreams" holds a special place in the soundtrack of my year. Its dreamy melodies and evocative lyrics transport me to a place of introspection and longing.- especially when it's being blasted in my car. This song serves as a poignant reminder to chase after my aspirations fearlessly, even when the path ahead seems uncertain. It encourages me to hold onto the beauty of my dreams and to pursue them with unwavering determination, knowing that they hold the promise of fulfillment and growth.
Finally, "Clean" encapsulates the essence of closure and renewal. Even through this year, I've experienced moments of growth and transformation, shedding old habits and embracing new beginnings. "Clean" serves as a cathartic anthem, symbolizing the process of letting go of past burdens and emerging stronger, wiser, and more resilient than before. It reminds me that with every ending comes the opportunity for a fresh start, paving the way for personal evolution and self-discovery.
In conclusion, if the soundtrack of my year were to be composed of songs from 1989 (Taylor's Version), it would reflect a journey of resilience, growth, and self-discovery. Each track would serve as a testament to overcoming obstacles, embracing authenticity, and chasing after my wildest dreams. From "Shake It Off" to "Clean," these songs would weave together a narrative of empowerment and transformation, echoing the highs and lows of my year with unwavering optimism and determination.

As I reflect on my journey through education, a particular obstacle stands out vividly in my mind—a time when I failed to take school as seriously as I should have. It was a period marked by lackluster effort and a disconnection from the potential within me. However, this setback became a pivotal moment of learning and growth, shaping my approach to life and education after that.
Like many teenagers, I grappled with the allure of distractions and the temptation to coast through academic responsibilities. I believed that minimal effort would suffice, neglecting the importance of investing fully in my studies. As a consequence, my grades suffered, and opportunities slipped through my fingers.
The realization of the impact of my choices hit me hard. I saw how my lack of dedication not only affected my academic performance but also hindered my personal growth and future prospects. It was a wake-up call—a moment of reckoning where I understood that my actions were not just about completing assignments but about shaping my character and potential.
Through this experience, I learned invaluable lessons that continue to resonate with me today. Firstly, I recognized the significance of giving my best effort in everything I undertake. Whether it's a school project, a professional endeavor, or a personal pursuit, I now understand that mediocrity is not an option. Every task I engage in bears my name, reflecting my capabilities and integrity. I learned that to truly excel and make a meaningful impact, I must approach challenges with determination and diligence.
Moreover, I realized the profound impact of my choices on my life trajectory. By taking my education lightly, I was inadvertently shortchanging my future self. This awareness instilled in me a sense of responsibility and accountability for my actions. I realized that success is not a result of chance but a product of deliberate effort and perseverance.
This experience transformed my attitude towards obstacles. Rather than viewing setbacks as insurmountable barriers, I now see them as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Every challenge I encounter serves as a stepping stone towards personal and academic advancement. I've learned to embrace difficulties with resilience and adaptability, knowing that they hold the potential to shape me into a stronger, more capable individual.
In retrospect, facing the challenge of not taking school seriously was a blessing in disguise. It forced me to confront my shortcomings and cultivate essential virtues such as discipline, determination, and self-awareness. As I continue my academic journey and beyond, I carry with me the profound lessons gleaned from this experience, driving me toward excellence and fulfillment in all my endeavors.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought about unexpected challenges and disruptions, touching lives in ways we could have never anticipated. Amidst the chaos, my family and I faced a heartbreaking experience – the loss of my baby sister due to a miscarriage. This unexpected turn of events brought profound grief and sorrow into our lives, but it also became a catalyst for personal growth, resilience, and the discovery of inner strength.
Amid a global health crisis, my family was confronted with the harsh reality of the fragility of life. The isolation imposed by the pandemic intensified the emotional weight of the loss, making it even more difficult to find solace in the support of friends and family. However, as we navigated the challenging journey of grief, we began to unearth the seeds of resilience that lay within us.
The grieving process was a roller coaster of emotions, from denial and anger to acceptance and healing. It was through this emotional turbulence that I discovered the importance of embracing vulnerability and seeking support from others. Connecting with friends and family who had also experienced loss became a source of comfort and understanding. We formed a network of compassion that transcended physical distance, reminding us that we were not alone in our struggles.
Amid the darkness of grief, there emerged a flicker of hope and resilience. The experience taught me the significance of finding strength in vulnerability, acknowledging pain, and allowing oneself to heal. I learned that it is okay not to have all the answers and that healing is a gradual process that requires patience and self-compassion.
In the aftermath of our loss, I found purpose in raising awareness about miscarriage and breaking the silence surrounding this often misunderstood and stigmatized topic. I became an advocate for open conversations about pregnancy loss, fostering a sense of community and understanding among those who have faced similar challenges. Through sharing our story, my family and I hope to contribute to creating a more compassionate and supportive society for those who are dealing with the pain of miscarriage.
Though the pandemic brought unforeseen challenges, including the loss of my baby sister due to a miscarriage, this experience has been a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, but it has also been a catalyst for personal growth, resilience, and advocacy. As I navigate the journey of healing, I am committed to honoring the memory of my baby sister by fostering open conversations about pregnancy loss and supporting others who may be enduring similar challenges. Through the darkness of grief, I have discovered the transformative power of resilience and the enduring nature of the human spirit.

In the vast realm of cinematic storytelling, there exists a film that has not only entertained but also profoundly shaped the trajectory of my life. "Dead Poets Society" stands as a cinematic masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my perspective, values, and aspirations. This 1989 classic is more than a coming-of-age drama; it is a poignant exploration of individuality, the pursuit of passion, and the transformative power of education.
"Dead Poets Society" transports viewers to the hallowed halls of Welton Academy, where unconventional English teacher John Keating challenges the status quo and inspires his students to seize the day, to carpe diem. The film's exploration of individuality and the pursuit of one's passions resonated deeply with me, catalyzing my journey of self-discovery.
The character of John Keating, portrayed masterfully by Robin Williams, became an embodiment of the kind of mentorship I aspired to receive and offer. This cinematic exploration fueled my own appreciation for literature, pushing me to explore its ability to cultivate empathy, understanding, and a profound connection to the human condition.
"Dead Poets Society" also profoundly impacted my views on leadership and the responsibility to challenge societal norms for the greater good. Keating's influence on his students went beyond the classroom; it extended to their lives, shaping their character and guiding them toward a life of purpose. This aspect of the film fueled my desire to lead by example, to inspire positive change, and to foster environments that encourage individuality and creative expression.
As I navigate my educational and personal journey, the lessons learned from "Dead Poets Society" continue to resonate. The title that resonates profoundly with the essence of this pivotal period is "A New Dawn." This phrase has been carefully chosen to symbolize not only the fresh beginnings and endless possibilities that lie ahead but also the radiant light that heralds the commencement of my journey into the future.
The imagery associated with sunrise is powerful and evocative, capturing the essence of hope, renewal, and the breaking of a new day. Much like the first light of dawn dispelling the darkness, this upcoming phase signifies the breaking of a new day in my life. "A New Dawn" embodies the anticipation of opportunities yet to unfold, the growth that awaits, and the transformative nature of this significant transition.
The choice of this title is rooted in the inherent optimism and hope associated with the start of something new. A new era is not merely a continuation but a revitalization—a chance to leave behind the shadows of the past and step into the brightness of the future. "A New Dawn" encapsulates the idea that every dawn brings with it a sense of renewal, a clean slate upon which I can script the narrative of my journey.
Furthermore, the title reflects the acknowledgment of the transformative nature of this transition. Online Learning Innovator Scholarship
Embarking on a journey in the field of physical therapy requires continuous learning and staying updated on the latest advancements. As a student interested in physical therapy, I've found several online platforms, tools, and resources immensely helpful in deepening my understanding and applying my knowledge more effectively.
One key resource is PubMed, a treasure trove of research articles and studies related to physical therapy. It's like an online library where I can access the latest findings and evidence-based practices. Exploring these research papers helps me keep up with emerging trends, learn about new treatment methods, and understand the science behind physical therapy.
Additionally, I'm planning on obtaining an internship as it is a transformative phase where theoretical knowledge meets real-world application. Internships often involve shadowing experienced physical therapists. It's like having a mentor showing you the ropes. I'll be getting to observe how they interact with patients, perform assessments, and design treatment plans. This firsthand experience is crucial for picking up practical tips and tricks of the trade. One of the best things I've heard about internships is that you get to work directly with patients. It's like putting your knowledge into action. You learn how to communicate with patients, understand their needs, and tailor treatments based on individual situations. This direct interaction builds your confidence and people skills, and I can't wait to delve into this experience.
Furthermore, I also had to take Physical Therapy for myself when I was younger due to my bad back. So being able to see how the system works by being a patient myself made me learn more about not just how things are run- but also the patient POV of this experience, and more about anatomy because I have these problems as well. I'm also a firm believer that since I'd be able to have empathy with patients, it will lead to a more personal and enjoyable experience for patients.
On another note, Social media platforms like LinkedIn are a plan of mine in my learning journey. I plan on joining professional groups when I can as it is like entering a virtual study group where I can connect with other students and experienced therapists. It's a space for asking questions, sharing insights, and learning from the experiences of others, creating a supportive online community.
All these resources and tools are like my companions on the journey of studying physical therapy. Online platforms are my virtual classrooms, PubMed is my research library, social media is my study group, and Internships are my practical assistants in a clinical setting. Together, they make learning enjoyable and practical, preparing me to apply my knowledge effectively in the exciting world of physical therapy.
Janean D. Watkins Overcoming Adversity Scholarship
Hello, my name is Madinah Bazzi. I am currently a 17-year-old high school senior attending Fordson High School with a passion for pursuing Sports Physical Therapy. I'm very excited for this next chapter in my life and can't wait to see what new beginnings are open for me.
Adversity comes in many forms—be it personal setbacks, financial struggles, or unexpected obstacles. Each individual's experience with adversity is unique, and mine is no exception. It was during the pandemic that I confronted adversity head-on. During the pandemic, I struggled with a lot of things- one of which was my weight. Being stuck quarantining fueled me to continue to stress eat, binge, and not move around as much. I was stuck at an all-time low with a lack of motivation to fix my habits for the better. Even though this feeling may have lasted for quite some time, I ended up realizing some things and I became more self-aware of my physical and mental health. I noticed I had cellulite developing as a 14-year-old, High Cholesterol, and an abundance amount of stretch marks- even my overall mood and character were not right. I hated how I felt, I hated how I looked; I just felt disgusting. And that's where my resilience came in. My ability to bounce back from setbacks became a guiding force in my journey. Instead of succumbing to despair, I embraced the challenge, viewing it as an opportunity for personal growth. This mindset shift allowed me to develop a resilience that became invaluable in navigating future challenges. Adversity is often accompanied by profound lessons. Through introspection and self-discovery, I learned more about my strengths, weaknesses, and the importance of adaptability. I learned that within time anyone could achieve their ultimate goal when hard work is put in. I also learned what it meant to be disciplined and patient with my results. For six days out of the week, I would intermittent fast and put myself at a caloric deficit of 300 calories, whilst consuming at least 120g of protein and a good amount of healthy carbs, fats, and fiber. Not only was I disciplined with my consumption, but I was disciplined with my exercises as well. I'd make sure to hit each muscle of my body on separate days of the week and focus on form and bettering my workouts as a whole. Because I was disciplined, it instilled patience that I will forever keep with me throughout my life. I was patient to continue with my hard work and knew that results weren't going to pop up out of the blue. These lessons became the building blocks of my personal and professional development. Having faced adversity- especially with something that involves being physically active, kind of similar to my future profession- I gained a deeper understanding of the struggles others might be enduring. This newfound empathy became a cornerstone of my interpersonal relationships, both personally and professionally. Overcoming adversity has been a transformative journey, shaping my character and influencing my trajectory toward achieving goals and dreams. It taught me the power of resilience, the importance of continuous learning, and the ability to turn challenges into stepping stones for success. Adversity, rather than hindering progress, became the catalyst for my personal and professional growth.

With an abundance of memories spiraling through my head, one title stands out as the most perfect cooperative joy – Wii New Super Mario Bros. A journey into the whimsical Mushroom Kingdom with friends and family turned every gaming session into an adventure, solidifying this game as my top choice for co-op play.
One memorable moment captures the essence of why Wii New Super Mario Bros. holds a special place in my heart. It was a weekend afternoon, and the living room resonated with the cheerful tunes of the game as my siblings and I gathered around the Wii console. With our characters getting ready to save Princess Peach, we dove into the colorful landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom.
As we navigated the challenging levels, a defining moment unfolded during the perilous lava-filled castle stage. The screen pulsated with intensity as our characters leaped over fiery pits, dodged menacing enemies, and faced the ultimate showdown with Bowser Jr. The cooperative spirit shone through as we strategized, communicated, and sometimes hilariously failed to execute complex maneuvers.
The turning point occurred when, in a daring move, my younger sister propelled my character, Blue Toad, over a seemingly insurmountable obstacle. The timing was perfect, and the room erupted in cheers as my character landed on a platform, narrowly escaping peril. The sheer elation of overcoming the challenge together transformed the ordinary living room into a jubilant celebration.
What makes Wii New Super Mario Bros my favorite co-op game extends beyond the screen. The game's ingenious level design and cooperative gameplay foster teamwork, communication, and a shared sense of accomplishment. Each level became a metaphor for overcoming challenges together, a journey that strengthened the bonds of siblinghood and friendship.
In the digital landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom, my siblings and I discovered the magic of collaboration. Wii New Super Mario Bros. encouraged us to rely on each other's strengths, share power-ups, and conquer obstacles as a united front. The lessons of teamwork and mutual support learned in the virtual realms became guiding principles that extended beyond the gaming console.
As I reflect on that memorable Wii New Super Mario Bros. session, I recognize the enduring impact of cooperative gaming. The game served as a catalyst for shared laughter, triumphant victories, and the cultivation of lasting connections. The joy experienced in navigating the Mushroom Kingdom with friends and family has not only shaped my gaming preferences but has also left an indelible mark on the importance of collaboration in both digital and real-world adventures.
In conclusion, Wii New Super Mario Bros. is not just a game; it is a portal to shared experiences and the forging of lasting connections. The cooperative spirit embedded in its gameplay has not only created cherished memories but has also instilled valuable lessons in teamwork, resilience, and the joy of overcoming challenges together.

1- The major I have selected is Biology. For right now, the college I will be attending is Henry Ford College. However, I do have plans to transfer to either Wayne State University or Madonna University in the future.
2- Some of my strengths include my well-roundedness. I have been involved in a lot of things from a young age. To name a few: Key Club, Lifeguarding, Gas Station experience, Tennis, and Music-related activities. Looking at these, one may think that this is silly or very minute and can't possibly teach a person things that they will carry throughout life, but that is not the case. Being involved in Key Club for almost all my life instilled leadership skills, social skills, and advocacy. I've had so many experiences meeting with people from different backgrounds whose key motive in life is to make a difference. This inspired me to better myself and be more involved with things. Lifeguarding instilled more of an interest in health-related services. I learned how to do CPR, how to help people when they pass out, the Heimlich, as well as how to work in a rowdy atmosphere and work under pressure. My Gas Station experience was fairly short, yet still effective. I learned the way of entrepreneurship and saw first-hand what it means to own a business in your community. To add on, I gained knowledge on the logistics of Gas Station work and can use some of this for future references. Tennis taught me to be more physically grounded. I gained a love for physical activity the more I played this sport due to its complexity. This embedded a realization of how being physically active is an important asset in our daily lives. Lastly, I've always been a music phonetic. I always found it so interesting how a song could explain a surreal feeling regardless if it had lyrics or not. With this, I taught myself the art of music and learned various instruments and also composition. Although this is more so a hobby, I don't know what the future holds. And if I ever wanted to do anything on the side, this could be a possiblity.
As for my weaknesses, I am still a young woman who is just starting a new chapter in life. I hope to use this as motivation to continue to learn and grow. Another weakness of mine is that I am at times a people pleaser. I don't always take account into what I want. Instead, I accommodate others because I live for the happiness of others. I hope to fix that.
3- I am Madinah Bazzi and I feel I deserve this scholarship because I do need help financially to do my profession.
4- My favorite song is Drinking & Driving by Jhene Aiko. The title of the song and meaning is an escapism from reality and just wanting anything to make one feel alive and okay- even if it's bad. Lyrically, the song was beautifully written and the meaning is interesting to me as well.
5- As a Muslim, my greatest achievement is finding myself on the right path. Like any human, we all make our mistakes. But without these mistakes, I don't think I would be finding myself heading on the right path and for that I am thankful.

Plato's Allegory of the Cave, presented in Book VII of "The Republic," is a thought-provoking narrative that delves into the nature of reality, knowledge, and enlightenment. This allegory, expressed through a captivating metaphor, has captivated minds for centuries. To comprehend its underlying meaning in simple terms, we must embark on a journey through the shadows of the cave, the blinding light of the outside world, and the transformative process of enlightenment. Imagine a dark cave where prisoners have spent their entire lives, bound and facing a wall. They are oblivious to the world behind them, only able to see shadows cast on the cave wall by objects illuminated by a fire. These shadows become their reality, their only truth. In essence, the cave symbolizes the limited perception of those who rely solely on their senses without questioning or seeking a deeper understanding. The shadows on the wall, mere illusions, represent the distorted reality perceived by those within the cave. Plato uses this imagery to emphasize the idea that our senses can be deceiving, and what we perceive as truth may, in fact, be an incomplete and misleading representation of reality. This is a fundamental concept in the Allegory of the Cave — the recognition that our senses alone cannot unveil the ultimate truth. Now, let's introduce a pivotal character into this narrative: a prisoner who is freed from the chains and exposed to the outside world. Initially blinded by the brilliance of the sunlight, the freed prisoner begins to see the true forms of objects and the vibrant beauty of the world beyond the cave. This transformative journey from darkness to light serves as a powerful metaphor for the philosopher's progression toward knowledge and enlightenment. The outside world, bathed in sunlight, represents the realm of Forms in Plato's philosophy. Forms are the ultimate reality, the perfect and unchanging ideals that the physical world only imperfectly reflects. The shadows in the cave are likened to the superficial and ever-changing physical world, while the true forms of objects illuminated by the sunlight represent the eternal and unchangeable truths that the philosopher seeks. Plato's Allegory of the Cave, therefore, urges us to question the nature of reality and encourages us to move beyond the limitations of our senses. It challenges us to seek a deeper understanding of the world, recognizing that the shadows on the wall are but illusions, and the true reality lies beyond our immediate perceptions. The philosopher, having experienced the enlightenment of the outside world, feels a sense of duty to return to the cave and share this newfound knowledge with the other prisoners. However, the journey back into the cave is met with challenges. The prisoners, accustomed to the shadows, reject the philosopher's attempts to enlighten them. This resistance symbolizes the difficulties faced by those who seek to share knowledge and enlightenment with society. The Allegory of the Cave, in its simplicity, underscores the transformative power of education and the challenges faced by those who strive to bring about intellectual enlightenment. It prompts us to reflect on our own beliefs and question whether we are confined by the shadows on the wall or if we are open to the possibility of a broader, more profound truth. Plato's allegory can also be seen as a call to embrace the pursuit of knowledge. The freed prisoner's journey represents the philosopher's quest for truth, a journey that requires courage, curiosity, and a willingness to confront the unknown. It encourages us to break free from intellectual confinement, to venture into the realm of ideas, and to seek a deeper understanding of the world and ourselves. Moreover, the Allegory of the Cave serves as a timeless reminder of the importance of philosophy in society. Plato, through this allegory, highlights the role of the philosopher as a guide, someone who can lead others out of the darkness of ignorance and into the light of knowledge. It emphasizes the responsibility of those who possess wisdom to share it with others, even if it means facing resistance and skepticism. In conclusion, Plato's Allegory of the Cave, in its simplicity, invites us to question the nature of our reality, to recognize the limitations of our senses, and embark on a journey of intellectual enlightenment. It prompts us to break free from the chains of ignorance, to seek the truth beyond the shadows on the wall, and to share our newfound wisdom with others. As we navigate the cave of existence, may we embrace the transformative power of knowledge and strive to live in the radiant light of understanding.
