Howdy! My name is Madeline McKnight. I am from a small town in Southeast Texas. I plan on studying Animal and Dairy Science in college. My main goal in life, which some might say is far-fetched and unreachable, is to become a wife and mother while directing my own mixed practice as a veterinarian. I have a passion for agriculture, teaching younger generations, and being a light in my community.

This is my 8 year old Hungarian Vizsla, Jackson! Jackson ADORES car rides, especially if we're going to the barn to feed the horses. Even though he has gotten older, he still springs into the passenger seat of my car just like he did when he was a pup. Jackson is always smiling when he is riding shotgun in the car. He loves when the air conditioner blows on his face! When he is not in the car, Jackson loves to chase birds, take naps, and show off his cool Texas-shaped Rabies tag. He is the best dog ever!
Charles R. Ullman & Associates Educational Support Scholarship
Throughout my high school career, I had the opportunity to serve my community through many local and national organizations. These organizations include the National FFA Organization, 4-H, Operation Christmas Child, the National Honor Society, East Texas Pregnancy Help Center, Mission Fuge, and Sky Ranch. These organizations, while quite diverse, have enlightened me with what it truly means to give back to the community. I have organized 5k runs, daddy-daughter dances, community clean-ups after hurricanes, and agricultural education events throughout my years as a volunteer in my community.
Being involved in the community helps one learn about giving back and grateful. It is also an amazing opportunity to learn from other community members from different demographics, stages of life, and ends of the world. I have personally learned so much about life from Ugandan children in Nashville, a man named Earl Presley from Mobile, and Trisha from Colorado Springs. The lessons I learned from volunteering with different organizations have changed my perspective on life dramatically. Learning these lessons wouldn't have been possible without being involved in my community. These experiences make it clear to me why being involved in my community is so important.
I plan to make an impact in my community by donating my time and expertise to local 4H and FFA chapters by assisting the students during livestock show season with their veterinary needs. I want to make a lifelong impact in agricultural students’ lives by giving them services they might not be able to afford otherwise.

My main goal, which some might say is far-fetched and unreachable, is to become a wife and mother while directing my own mixed practice as a veterinarian. While I would like to focus more on small animal medicine in my practice, I believe that partnering with another Veterinarian who specializes in large animal medicine would be most beneficial for my community. One day, most likely after I retire from my practice, I would love to be able to pass on my knowledge to younger generations in the classroom as an animal science professor.
In order to achieve these goals of mine, I plan to study abroad for at least one semester during my undergraduate years to introduce myself to the practice veterinary medicine in other countries. I find value in exploring other cultures, so learning about my future profession in another country would be an out of this world experience for me. In addition to studying abroad, I plan to take courses that are far out of my comfort zone, such as avian anatomy or swine science, to help me become a more well-rounded veterinarian and push my limits as a scientist. While these courses may be difficult for me, I believe that with my determination I will be able to overcome any challenge placed before me. My determination has enabled me to tackle college a year earlier than my peers, succeed in over 15 college level courses, and become an agriculture advocate in my community in the last year alone. This determination of mine will not dwindle anytime soon, as I believe it is just picking up momentum.
During veterinary school, I would love to take challenging and academically rigorous courses that can improve my critical thinking and expand my knowledge exponentially. My goal is to stretch my academic abilities to the limit by learning about exotics and large animal medicine, in addition to small animal medicine. I am beyond ecstatic to dive into my passion for animal care and veterinary medicine on a daily basis while furthering my scientific curiosity. The mere thought that I could one day graduate as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine motivates me every single day to strive to be the best, push the limits, and learn like today is my last.
As a Veterinarian, my mission will be to serve animals with love and exemplary care. I certainly do not want my education to stop after I walk across the graduation stage. I plan to further my education daily as I learn from not only my peers, but my patients as well.
Although my current plan is to attend veterinary school, I understand that my plan can fizzle in a single moment. I have been motivated by this dream of mine for quite a while, so I know for certain that I will quit at the slightest inconvenience. I am beyond ready to go above and beyond in every way possible to achieve my dream of becoming a veterinarian; whatever the cost.
