For over a decade, I've walked the path of an active-duty military spouse, constantly adapting my career ambitions to the transient nature of military life. Alongside this journey, I've carved out my own niche as a professional wedding photographer, building my business from the ground up. Yet, despite my love for capturing special moments, the demanding schedule has taken its toll, leaving me longing for more quality time with my school-aged children and husband.
I've made the bold decision to return to college to pursue my Bachelor of Arts degree at ASU. Now, I am on a new journey, aiming to cultivate my passion for art into a meaningful career as an Art Educator. My goal is to give back to my community by creating a creative, inspiring, nurturing, and inclusive space in the classroom. This will be where students are encouraged to embrace their uniqueness and find confidence in their artistic expression.
This decision represents more than just a career shift; it's a commitment to creating a life of balance and fulfillment for my family and myself. As I go on this transformative journey, I carry with me the hope of inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination and resilience.

Jennifer Gephart Memorial Working Mothers Scholarship
When I read about the Jennifer Gephart Memorial Working Mother Scholarship, I felt an immediate resonance and knew I wanted to apply. Jennifer's story mirrored my own in many ways—like her, I am a military spouse seeking to transition into a new career path and pursue higher education to better support my family. With over a decade of experience as an active-duty military spouse, I have become thoroughly versed in the delicate balance required to navigate career ambitions alongside the responsibilities of family life.
My educational journey took a pause as I prioritized supporting my husband's military career in the United States Marine Corps. During our time stationed in North Carolina, our family expanded with the arrival of our son in 2015 and our daughter in 2017. These years were marked by numerous trainings and deployments, resulting in extended periods of separation. Despite the challenges, I remained steadfast in my commitment to my family.
After four years of dedicating myself to caring for my loved ones, I made the decision to pursue a career as a professional wedding photographer. With determination and resilience, I built my business from the ground up, diligently laying the foundation for a successful business. This endeavor afforded me the flexibility to prioritize spending weekdays with my young children while honing my craft and establishing myself as a respected professional in the industry.
Although I've cherished my role as a professional wedding photographer, the longing to spend more quality time with my school-aged children has created a new reevaluation of my aspirations. With my husband's impending military retirement in sight, I'm compelled to pursue dreams that not only fulfill me personally but also provide stability for our family's future transition to civilian life.
Thus, I've embarked on a journey to pursue my Bachelor of Arts degree at ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, igniting a dream to become an Art Educator. This ambition stems from a desire to give back to my community and inspire the next generation to chase their own dreams. I envision a classroom where creativity flourishes, confidence grows, and every student feels valued and supported in their artistic endeavors.
Beyond earning my BA and potentially pursuing a master's degree, my aspirations extend to teaching in public education. My dream is to cultivate an environment where love, empathy, and acceptance reign supreme, allowing each student to thrive authentically. As someone who recognizes the importance of accommodating diverse learning styles and needs, I am committed to advocating for students who may not fit into the traditional educational mold, championing their right to be themselves.
Realizing my dream of becoming an Art Educator was a journey marked by self-discovery and reflection. It was a moment of clarity when I recognized that my career as a wedding photographer, while fulfilling creatively, no longer aligned with my desired work-life balance. It was then that I knew it was time to transition to a path where I could give back what I had learned and make a difference in the lives of others. This realization fueled my determination to pursue higher education and embark on a career dedicated to inspiring and nurturing young minds through the power of art and education.
Embracing this new direction has been both liberating and empowering, affirming that dreams are not just aspirations but guiding lights that illuminate our path to fulfillment and purpose. As I continue on this journey, I am excited to see where it leads and the impact I can make on the world around me.
