Being the first of my siblings to start at a four-year university, I wanted to experience it all. As an education major, what better way to make an impact than to help another student reach their goals? Our class was asked if anyone would be a notetaker for a fellow student who was currently going through cancer treatments at the start of the school year. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to make a difference in another student’s life. This is what I hope to do with my future students as an early childhood education major. Why not start making a difference in a life now?
Come to find out, the student I would be taking notes for in this class was an athlete I used to compete against in high school sports. Wow! First off, I didn't even know she was sick. Second, I was so glad that I always left the competition on the floor, at the track, and on the cross-country route. Even though we were competitors, we knew who each other was and felt an ease of communication from the moment we started working together on the coursework.
My friend is back at the university and doing well. When she returned to class, it was like she had been in class the entire time with me. She did get the notes from me, but I gained a new friend from another town with some familiarity. I could not imagine starting the school year off in the hospital and being unable to attend the beginning of the school year, at a new school, as a freshman, without someone willing to step up and help another student in need.
I hope that other students are doing the same to help others in a positive way. There are so many ways that we can help others. Above, I listed one instance where I was able to help another student feel welcome and alleviate anxiety while going through treatments away from campus. My plan is to continue this pattern of helping others while in college, when I am home from school, and in my future career of teaching early childhood education. There are so many ways that we can all show kindness toward others that will positively impact everyone involved.
I have made it a goal to show kindness every day. Some might ask, "How can you do that every day?" It can be as easy as holding the door open for someone walking into a building, complimenting someone you cross paths with, smiling, saying hello, or lifting someone up with praise. It goes back to the line I always heard growing up: "Treat others as you would like to be treated." If we can remember to lift up others instead of just competing or trying to one-up them, this world would definitely be a better place for all. My friend was able to concentrate on healing during treatments and confidence that she had someone other than a busy professor to look to for help.
Thank you for taking the time to read my essay.

My passion for working with children started early in my education. I used to play school with my dolls acting as my students at a very young age. The dolls eventually became actual students of mine during swim lessons, vacation bible school and during my co-op experience my senior year. My expereinces with children is why I have chosen Early Childhood Education as my major. I was a participant in my high school co-op program where I worked closely with teachers and students, assisting kindergarten through 1st-grade students in their classrooms. This experience has helped me understand all that goes into running a successful classroom and fueled my passion for becoming an early childhood educator.
My own educational journey I had several phenomonal educators. One particular educator made a career changing impact on me. This teacher infused our classroom with so much energy, turning learning into an amazing experience for myself and classmates. Her impact had all of us learning and wanting to know more every day; even after I transitioned to high school, she took the time to send a heartfelt email to all her former students, including me, expressing her best wishes for our high school endeavors. This thoughtful gesture exemplified the lasting relationships she cultivated, leaving a lasting mark on my perspective of teaching and mentorship.
These connections that were made in her class have fueled my desire to emulate her positive influence. I aspire to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others, cultivating lasting connections, and making a profound impact on their academic and personal journeys. My motivation extends beyond a focus on academic achievements; instead, it is rooted in the joy of witnessing progress in my student's academic and social spheres, recognizing that growth comes in various forms.
With a focused goal of teaching early childhood education, I envision myself as the spark for building relationshsips between their peers and providing an educational foundation for their futures. I want my students to be excited to learn, read, problem-solve, and be physically active. I am committed to succeeding in my teaching approaches to meet the individual needs of each student, ensuring progress regardless of their beginning. My ultimate goal is to plant a love for learning, curiosity, and buliding relationships along the way.
Discovering and applying for scholarships presents an incredible chance to earn funds without the burden of repayment. This opens the door for me to realize one of my ultimate goals – graduating from college without the weight of debt. The prospect of a debt-free post-college life empowers me to chart my course without financial constraints. The advantages of graduating without debt are numerous: it alleviates stress, enables me to fully dedicate myself to my teaching career without juggling additional jobs, and provides the freedom to pursue further education without the burden of past educational expenses. A debt-free start means I can direct my income towards saving and investing rather than paying student loans, creating a more stable financial foundation for my future.

Scholarship Institute’s Annual Women’s Leadership Scholarship
Leadership has helped me become who I am today. Some of my leadership roles have been as a teacher's assistant, an audio-visual specialist and a sales associate. Through these different positions I have learned characteristics that many great leaders share.
A pivotal leadership role I undertook was as a teacher's assistant at a local elementary school throught my high school co-op program. Here, I shouldered the responsibility of supporting both teachers and students, improving my leadership and problem-solving skills while emphasizing the importance of teamwork. Helping these students was not just fulfilling; it solidified my passion to become a teacher with the community of teachers with the simialr goals.
My leadership roles extended into athletics in cross country, basketball, and track and field. As a team captain in cross country, I not only led by example through my commitment to training and discipline but also brought unity and motivation among team members. In basketball and track and field, my leadership role was to encourage teamwork, model a positive competitive spirit, and support growth of each team member.
I assumed the role of an audio-visual specialist at my church, extending my leadership to a small congregation. This position demanded precision in setting up audio-visual boards before services, instilling in me the art of reliability. The challenges and triumphs in this role significantly shaped my leadership approach, emphasizing the delivery of a quality product that congregants could easily follow.
As a sales associate at the local movie theater, my leadership responsibilities spanned money management, public service, and sales. This role reinforced the significance of financial acumen and taught me patience in customer interactions, fostering satisfaction and an ability to engage with a diverse range of patrons.
Looking ahead, I aspire to leverage these multifaceted leadership skills in securing a teaching position in an elementary school. From my varied leadership experiences, including those in sports, I've learned that effective leadership transcends mere control; it involves collaborative teamwork to achieve shared goals. I aim to impart the lessons learned from these diverse roles, fostering a positive impact on my future students and inspiring a love for learning.
In conclusion, my leadership journey has been defined by diverse roles, including those in sports, that collectively shaped my understanding of effective leadership. The experiences gained from teaching, work, and athletics have equipped me with invaluable skills and insights. I hope to be the best teacher (and maybe coach) I can be to my future students and these leadership roles will help me attain these goals.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
The career that I have chosen to pursue is elementary education. Teachers give back to their students and community every day. I have experienced this while working my co-op job as a teachers aid at our local grade school. The teachers I work with model giving, selflessnes, and compassion to all students at all times. It is important to help these young individuals feel part of the class, school and community.
Some of the experiences I have been able to help with include; organizing and baking for the craft show to setting up and serving at various events. My volunteer journey has been diverse and enriching. As a future educator, I know that community service is important for me to model for my students. There is a possibility that I might one day lead some of my future students in community service events that could make a positive impact on their lives.
One of the key aspects of my volunteer work is centered around community events. For instance, I've baked tirelessly for the craft show, student council bake sale, and Easter Seals week. These experiences have not only sharpened my baking skills but also demonstrated the power of shared efforts in raising funds for meaningful causes.
Basketball tryouts for younger grades and working at the Little Girls Basketball Camp showcase my dedication to sports and community engagement. I hope my love for the game excites younger basketball athletes and that they will understand the importance of teamwork, dedication, and committment.
Participating in events such as South School's Santa Workshop and Vacation Bible School allowed me to contribute to the joy and development of younger members of our community. Working these events also helped me grow as an individual. It was very rewarding to listent to the conversations and innoccense of others.
When I helped set up for events like the Senior Honors Banquet, National Honor Society Banquet and the scholarship awards ceremony. Attending these events as a volunteer gave me a better understanding and importance of these achivements as I could achieve as a junior and senior in high school. These events were very eye-opening for me and helped me set my own goals of achievement.
In applying for the Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship, I envision furthering my commitment to community service as I pursue higher education and into my teaching career.
In conclusion, my diverse volunteer experiences have shaped my understanding of the positive change that can be achieved through community service.
Frederick J. Salone Memorial Basketball Scholarship
Basketball is a favorite sport of mine to play. I have been in a gym from the time I was able to walk, I was on the basketball court with my grandpa, my aunt Michelle or my dad. All three of them had a great impact on me and all the players that they coached. My grandpa coached the girls basketball team to a state competition in 2004-2005. When he retired from coaching high school girls basketball he coached me in "bitty ball" at the local recreation center in town. His love for the game and me quickly drew a number of my classmates to the sport as well. My grandpa didn't care who he was coaching basketball to, he just wanted everyone to learn and love the game of basketball.
ball.
My love for basketball started early and I continued playing the game through my senior year of high school. My passion brought about much success on and off the court. When I started playing high school basketball I asked to look at all the stat records, from those records I made some goals I wanted to accomplish in my high school career. I am happy to say I made one goal of breaking the assist record at my high school. I now hold the record of most career and season assists at my high school.
Other great accomplishments I have been recognized for include, "Best Defensive Player" for JV and Varsity teams in the 2021-2022 season. Then in the following season I was recognized as "Most Valuable Player" of the varsity team. During the IPC vs. Sangamo Shootout I was voted "Player of the Game" two years in a row.
My basketball career did not go without its challenges. As a freshman, our season was put on hold due to the pandemic. Our team was required to wear masks while running up and down the court. Some of my teammates left the team because of the rules and regulations of the pandemic. Our numbers were down and required our starting five players to play for extended periods of time with little to no rest. Our small team came together determined to have a winning season, which we did 18/14 games.
With only two seniors on the team this year, we had to seek out others to play on the team. It was our responsibility to help the underclassmen, some with not much basketball experience, understand the drills, the plays and ultimately the competitive game situations.
This game has taught me how to work as a team and communicate with others as well as make on-the-court decisions for the win. When we did not win, we would get back to work to succeed in the next game. What I have learned from the game, my teammates and my coaches will help me reach my goals in the future.

I have seen both of my brothers navigate college ahead of me. Both of them inspire me to graduate from college debt free. One has already graduated debt free with his degree in Physical Education and the other is almost done with his degree in Accounting debt free. They were able to keep costs down by going to the local community college before transferring to their four-year universities. The biggest reason they both started at the community college was because they were not sure what they wanted to do for a living.
In 4th-grade I knew that I wanted to teach. I want to start my college career at the best state school for teachers. This will allow me to immerse myself in any extras that are offered to students interested in teaching. Being part of a teaching community while in college from the beginning of my education until the day I graduate will allow me to collaborate with other teachers throughout my education.
I would like to make this dream come true without being forced to repay debt when my eduaction is complete. My plan has been to graduate debt free like my brothers. During high school I had four part-time jobs, maintained my spot on the honor roll all four years, and was a three-sport athlete (cross country, basketball and track). My jobs included being an audio-visual technicain at my church, a high school co-op student aid at South Grade School, a tutor for a junior high school student and a movie theater attendant at our local movie theater. In the summer, I also was a concession stand worker at the public pool in town. To stay organized, I have a color coded calendar outside my bedroom door that I maintain at the start of every month. This is a quick and easy way for me to look at before the week starts as well as remember times I need to be places on a day-to-day basis.
My jobs and sports schedules have helped me stay focused on my school work too. When you only have a set amount of time to get school work done there is not time to lose. If anything, this limited amount of time has helped me do assignments ahead of time rather than procrastinate. My system works well for me in all areas of my life. I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout my high school career, been successful in athletics and learned some valuable lessons for the different jobs that I have worked.
Balancing this lifestyle has not always been easy. There were days that I did not want to go to school because of a game or meet that was hours away the night before. However, I knew that getting up and going to school would benefit my future. My work ethic during high school is one of my greatest accomplishments. Moving forward to my college education, I hope to continue working and growing as a student in the education field. Hopefully, my future employers will see my work ethic and dedication to my future students as well.
Sacha Curry Warrior Scholarship
My name is Mackenzie Mercer. I am a senior at Illinois Valley Central High School. I am planning on going to school at Illinois State University. My major will be Elementary Education.
I have worked with children for most of my life. Teaching swim lessons, working my churches vacation bible school, and at my current co-op job at South School. I work closely with elementary teachers, providing assistance to kindergarten through 1st-grade students in their classrooms. This hands-on experience has deepened my understanding of the classroom culture and fueled my passion for becoming an educator.
I do believe I am deserving of this scholarship, due to my co-op placement with students everyday at South School who are struggling with mental health challenges, which are currently at an all-time high. I understand the importance of making others aware of mental health issues happening in our schools.
Mental health issues among students are inhibiting their ability to learn. Because I am actively engaged in the lives of elementary students, teachers and teachers aides like myself I see the signs of social and emotional issues every day. I have seen students act out with disruptive behaviors and others with fears that seem irrational to me. If students are not getting the support from their parents at home much of this responsibility lies on teachers and future teachers, like myself. Everyone deserves a chance to learn and I hope to help all of my future students get the most out of their education and start with a great confidence that will carry them through their educational journey.
From what I have seen as a teacher's aide, when students feel like they are safe and understood they tend to be more engaged in the activities and learning that are happening in class. Some of the things that I have noticed other teachers do to make students feel safe and understood include, getting down to their level on their knees and looking the young, sometimes upset, student in the eyes. Also, an encouraging hug that makes them feel better too.
Of course any scholarship would help any student further their education. However, I feel like this scholarship would be helping me address the issues of mental-health for students at an early age. The earlier you start talking about mental health with others, including students, the bigger impact can be made. As a future teacher, I will be working with students, parents, adminstrators and counselors just to name a few. Who better to make others aware of mental health issues than a teacher?
Utlimately, I would like to make a difference in students' lives. This encompasses all aspects of their lives. Mental health is an enormous part of the young lives I will be with day in and day out. At my current job as a co-op student I have seen some very supportive teachers that do all the extras to make all students feel like they are safe and welcome. I hope to follow in doing the same for my students.
Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Ever since the pandemic mental and physical health have become topics of concern in and out of the classroom. Neglecting mental health can give rise to many challenges, impacting various aspects of life. Issues such as depression, reduced motivation for academic pursuits, stress, anxiety, time management difficulties, and social isolation can creep into both academic performance and personal life. As a high school senior, I've encountered potential stressors, such as paper deadlines and tests with a lot of material, as well as peer pressure that could have negativley affected my mental health. However, my strong support system, comprising friends, family, and sports teams, has been vital in navigating these challenges.
My approach to maintaining mental well-being involves a plan that includes different aspects of my life. Being a three-sport athlete I exercise five days a week. As most know, exercising has been proven to free endorphins and help manage stress. To curb depression and anxiety I read and spend time with my family and friends. I am a creature of habit and I like to stick to my routines which have proven to help me throughout my high school education.
In addition, it is important for me to maintain my mental well-being through the involvement of my church community. I also dedicate time to support an elderly woman from my church, Mossville Unitied Methodist Church, who lives alone. Looking out for others' mental health is also imporatnt. I make it a priority to visit her regularly, offering assistance with tasks such as making her bed, cleaning her home, and simply being present to engage in meaningful conversation.
The role of faith emerges as a powerful contributor to both my physical and mental well-being. Active participation in my church community serves as a source of upliftment. Engaging in meaningful conversations with individuals from diverse backgrounds within this community enriches my perspective and reinforces a sense of connection. The spiritual component adds depth to my overall well-being, meshing with other aspects of life to create a comprehensive support system.
Looking ahead to the challenges of college life at Illinois State University, maintaining a delicate balance between academics, social commitments, and self-care becomes important. The commitment to keeping routines that promote mental health, coupled with making new friends, will be a priority. The lessons learned in managing mental health during high school lay the foundation for adapting at Illinois State University. With the constant support of my family, the strength derived from faith and church community, I will be able to navigate my way into the future.

If I were to select one movie that I would watch again and again throughout my life's journey, that would be "The Greatest Showman." This extraordinary movie, charged with energy and exploding with emotion, is a movie that transports me back to cherished moments with my family.
In some of my best memories, "The Greatest Showman" has been one of our best movie holiday traditions. It gets everyone up and moving, well, at lease signing. Holiday breaks are for family occasions when we all come together as a family and watch movies. The air would be filled with the smell of popcorn, and the wonderful sounds of the movie's soundtrack. Even those who said they did not enjoy this particular movie couldn't resist the rocking tunes, eventually joining in the chorus with others and becoming part of our family tradition. Some might think of traditional Christmas movies such as "Elf", "Home Alone" or "Christmas Vacation" but for us it was "The Greatest Showman". No other movie could pull all of us together. In fact, this movie would usually last us longer than it was supposed to due to the fact that we would go back and belt out some of the tunes more than once while watching.
Each musical number was an anticipation of the next song, blending fun-loving tunes with beautiful dance numbers. Each note and choreographed step became an experience that brought out our shared happiness, for the entire duration of the film. Beyond its sound and visual appeal, "The Greatest Showman" tells a story of chasing dreams, solving problems, and coming out on top. It is a confirmation that one needs to follow-through, leaving a lasting mark on every one of my family members and imparting the profound belief that with dedication and resilience, dreams can manifest into reality.
What adds an extra layer of significance to this moive is the mindfulness to diversity shown by its diverse cast. The film is a celebration of humanity's melting pot, presenting actors of various races, genders, talents, and statuses seamlessly working together for a common goal. That being said, anyone who attends one of our family gatherings is just as comfortable as the next person while waching the movie.
"The Greatest Showman" is not just a movie; it is an experience that inspires, and celebrates diversity. Its musical numbers continue to be sung around our house and in my memory, reminding me of shared moments with my family.

My name is Mackenzie Mercer. I am a senior at Illinois Valley Central High School. I am planning on going to school at Illinois State University. My major will be Elementary Education. As a high school athlete in three sports, I spend a lot of time on the bus doing homework and on the court and field competeing. An interesting fact about me is that I have had nine consecutive years of perfect attendance at school, practices and competitions. I take great pride in being able to keep my grades up, get to school on time after a competion the night before and a long bus ride home (two hours at times).
I have worked with children for most of my life. Teaching swim lessons, working my churches vacation bible school, and at my current co-op job at South School. I work closely with elementary teachers, providing assistance to kindergarten through 1st-grade students in their classrooms. My experience, as co-op student in the local elemenatr school, has helped me understand the classroom culture and fueled my passion for becoming an educator.
Mrs. Harvill was my fourth-grade teacher and had a huge impact on me and is the reason I want to be a teacher myself. My classmates and I were her first class in her teaching career. Mrs. Harvill brought so much energy to our classroom, turning learning into the most fun adventure. Her impact exceeded any other academic environment I had experienced; even after I transitioned to high school, she took the time to send a heartfelt email to all her former students, including me, expressing her best wishes for our high school endeavors. This thoughtful gesture exemplified the lasting relationships she cultivated, leaving a lasting mark on my perspective of teaching and mentorship.
This connection with Mrs. Harvill has driven my desire to follow in her positive footsteps. I would like to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others students, making lasting connections, and profound impacts on their academic and personal journeys. My motivation extends beyond a focus on academic achievements; instead, it is rooted in the joy of witnessing progress in my student's academic and social connections, recognizing that growth comes in many forms.
With a focused goal of teaching elementary students, I see myself as the inspiration for building a thriving classroom. I hope to share my love for reading, problem-solving and fun with all of my future students. Meeting all of the individual needs of every student will be work in progress. My current co-op position has been so valuable for me to see that this is the career for me.
The ultimate goal is to educate and help students' become their best selves. To make this happen, I am going to learn as much as I can while in college. I am also so greatful to the teachers that I have been able to work with this year at South School. These teachers have taught me so much.
To wrap everything up, I am excited about my future teaching career and thank all of those who paved the way to my decision to become an elemetary teacher.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My high school journey has been an exploration of academic and athletic passions, particularly in cross country, basketball, and track and field. These sports have not only defined my experience but also shaped my identity.
Cross country has taught me the true meaning of determination and grit. In the beginning of every race, I find myself on the course of fields and creeks, finding the strength and determination to get to the end. The sport has helped me value hard work, teaching me that success often lies on the other side of pushing through physical and mental barriers.
Along with the physical demands, cross country brought my teammates and I closer together socially too. We all shared the same struggles of practicing and competing in all weather conditions while having both good and bad running days. Through all the runs, I've come to appreciate the importance of my teammates supporting me during challenging runs and for me to support them during their runs as well.
While on the basketball court, I loved taking on a senior leadership role to underclassmen. Helping others learn the plays and seeing their hard work turn into points scored at games gave me great satisfaction. It made me realize that I might be really good at helping others, particularly my future students.
These sports are a huge part of my life, defining my schedule and showing me how to face challenges. The values that I have learned being a three-sport athlete extend into the classroom and at my places of work. Juggling practices, late-night and early morning competitions, work, and academic responsibilities has sharpened my organizational skills, emphasizing the importance of prioritization.
As I apply for this memorial scholarship, I reflect on the impact of Kalia Davis, a fellow enthusiast of cross country and track. Her passing is difficult for all those who were close to her, and I'm inspired to honor her memory through this scholarship. In attending an Illinois college, I aim to continue our shared journey of grit and dedication. This scholarship signifies a commitment to carrying forward Kalia's legacy, pursuing my passions, and aspiring to educate and coach others. With this financial support, I hope to start my college journey debt-free, continuing to inspire and lead others in memory of Kalia.
In conclusion, my high school experiences in cross country, basketball, and track and field have shaped me into an individual with a deep sense of determination, teamwork, and grit. As I seek this memorial scholarship, I not only carry the lessons from these sports but also the memory of a fellow athlete who shared these passions. With gratitude for the opportunities these activities have provided, I look forward to attending Illinois State University, hoping to use the scholarship to pursue my educational and coaching aspirations while honoring Kalia's legacy.

The coaches deterimine the best events for the athletes just as my boss will determine where my strengths will be needed in the classroom.

I work closely with elementary teachers, providing assistance to kindergarten through 1st-grade students in their classrooms. This experience has helped me understand the classroom culture and fueled my passion for becoming an educator.
While in high school I have made many memories, grown as a person and had my share of challenges as well. One such challenge was navigating my freshman year during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Everything was up in the air. Would I be able to play in high school sports? If so, when would we start competeing and how. I was disappointed, scared, and unsure what high school would look like for me.
The thing that I was going to miss most was the chance to participate in high school sports. The pandemic did not allow our high school athletes to even pratice with each other. Instead of falling into the world of "screen time", I decided to make the most out of the extra time I had by finding something to do. Being an athlete, I am always going. So, at age 14, I accepted my first job, babysitting for three boys. I was required to get up early and come home after 5:30 p.m. when their mom came home. I put in a lot of hours at their house learning how to make them lunches and get them up and moving too. Saying that I learned a lot during that time is an understatement. Wow, work is hard! It reminded me a lot of the physical work I put in during my sports practices.
I also learned a lot too. Interacting with the boys taught me patience, compassion, and how to handle challenges too. It was aswesome to see their mom's dedication to her job during a pandemic. This experience taught me the importance of commitment to work in troubled and scary times.
While the pandemic initially side-traked my plans as a student-athlete, it ultimately helped me gain a better understanding of life. These challenges I encountered during high school gave me a sense of purpose, moving me towards alternative goals in my pursuit of fun.
I was proud of myself for getting through the pandemic with little changes to my physical and mental health. This experience helped me grow and learn more about myself and how to get through tough times. The life lessons that I learned through the pandemic made me a stronger person and I feel I am more equipped to overcome adversity. Getting through the pandemic has preparred me to get through other obstacles I will face in the future, whether it be school, work or family.

Enhancing relationships with the African-American population requires a multifaceted approach, such as promoting community policing initiatives where officers actively engage with residents, attend community events, and establish meaningful connections. Take, for instance, the commendable example set by our school's resource officer, Officer Hesterberg. By interacting with students during lunch, playing games, and building relationships, she not only breaks down stereotypes but also fosters trust, illustrating the positive impact law enforcement can have when genuinely involved in the community.
To further improve interactions, advocating for cultural competency training among law enforcement officers is crucial. This training should encompass a deep understanding of the diverse communities they serve, particularly the history and experiences of African Americans. By focusing on communication skills, such as active listening and non-confrontational approaches, officers can bridge gaps and reduce biases, fostering more effective and respectful communication.
Communities should actively support initiatives fostering transparency and accountability within law enforcement. This includes implementing measures like body cameras and clear procedures for addressing misconduct. Such transparency not only builds trust but also assures the community that law enforcement is held accountable for their actions.
In addition, efforts should be made to ensure diversity within law enforcement agencies, representing all races, cultures, genders, ages, and ethnicities of the community. This inclusivity promotes a collaborative work environment where individuals can connect, learn about different backgrounds, and share experiences, ultimately strengthening relationships.
Media outlets play a crucial role in shaping perceptions. Therefore, the media must support and highlight positive stories of collaboration between law enforcement and the community. For instance, showcasing instances like police officers engaging in friendly activities, such as a pick-up basketball game, can contribute to changing public perceptions positively.
Facilitating open forums, town hall meetings, or school-based discussions provides a platform for people to voice their concerns and allows officers to address these concerns directly. Communication channels like these foster a two-way dialogue, ensuring that community members feel heard and understood.
Change is achievable when all members of the community work collaboratively towards positive goals. It is imperative to approach this collective effort with respect for diverse perspectives and an earnest willingness to learn about and appreciate the differences and cultures within our community.
As a future teacher, I aspire to model positive relationships for my students. By encouraging self-reflection on behaviors and emotions and promoting empathy, I hope to instill in students a mindset that fosters positive interactions and an understanding of diverse perspectives. Through these efforts, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and harmonious community environment.

Embracing the Journey: A Passion for Elementary Teaching and the Sacrifices Along the Way
As I embark on the path toward becoming an elementary teacher, my passion for this career is rooted in the profound impact I believe I can make on the lives of young learners. I am driven by the desire to nurture their curiosity, instill a love for learning, and provide a supportive environment where they can flourish academically and personally.
The joy I find in witnessing the growth and development of children is a source of inspiration for my chosen career. There is something truly magical about being part of a child's educational journey, guiding them as they discover the wonders of the world and helping them build a solid foundation for future success. I believe that elementary education is not just about imparting knowledge but also about fostering creativity, resilience, and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
My passion for teaching, for me, extends beyond the classroom. It involves creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where each child feels valued and supported. I am enthusiastic about implementing innovative teaching methods, tailoring my approach to individual learning styles, and celebrating the unique strengths of each student. The prospect of making a lasting impact on the lives of children, and influencing their academic and personal development, is what fuels my dedication to becoming an elementary teacher.
To pursue my passion, I recognize the need for certain sacrifices to achieve both personal and educational goals. One significant sacrifice is accepting a lower salary compared to other professions. While financial stability is important, the intrinsic rewards of shaping young minds and contributing to society outweigh the monetary considerations. I believe the impact I can make as an elementary teacher is invaluable, making the sacrifice of a higher salary worthwhile.
In addition, I've chosen to attend a junior college initially, a decision motivated by the desire to save money and minimize student loan debt. While some may opt for prestigious institutions, I am committed to obtaining a quality education without the burden of excessive financial strain. This sacrifice reflects my practical approach to achieving my goals while ensuring a stable foundation for my future endeavors as an educator.
Lastly, my commitment to my educational journey is exemplified by my choice of transportation. Driving a 2007 Toyota Camry, I recognize that material sacrifices, such as not owning a brand-new car, are necessary to allocate resources toward my education. This choice reflects my dedication to managing finances responsibly and prioritizing my long-term goals over immediate comforts.
In conclusion, my passion for elementary teaching is a driving force that propels me to overcome the sacrifices required to achieve my educational goals. I am eager to contribute to the development of future generations and create a positive impact on their lives. The sacrifices I make are a testament to my commitment, and I am excited about the journey ahead as I pursue a career that aligns with my passion and values.

My journey through high school has been not just an academic endeavor but a thrilling exploration of my passions, particularly in the realm of sports. The trio of cross country, basketball, and track and field has not only defined my high school experience but has become an integral part of my identity.
Cross country, with its winding trails and challenging terrains, has taught me the true meaning of endurance and resilience. As the starting gun echoes through the crisp morning air, I find myself navigating through wooded paths and open fields, each stride a testament to my determination. The sport has instilled in me the value of perseverance, teaching me that success often lies on the other side of pushing through physical and mental barriers.
Beyond the physical demands, cross country has fostered a sense of camaraderie. The shared struggle of training and racing has forged bonds with teammates that extend beyond the finish line. Through early morning runs and cheering each other on during races, I've come to appreciate the importance of teamwork and the collective pursuit of a common goal.
On the basketball court, I loved the rhythm of the game and the teamwork. Dribbling, passing, and shooting become not just individual skills but components of a larger, coordinated effort. The fast-paced nature of basketball has sharpened my ability to think on my feet, make split-second decisions, and communicate effectively with teammates.
Moreover, basketball has taught me the art of resilience in the face of setbacks. Every missed shot or turnover is not a failure but an opportunity to learn and improve. The sport has cultivated a mindset that embraces challenges as stepping stones toward growth and success.
Track and field, with its diverse events, has allowed me to explore and showcase my individual strengths. From sprinting on the track to launching myself into the air in the triple jump pit, each event offers a unique challenge. This versatility has not only broadened my athletic skill set but has also translated into a valuable life lesson—that embracing diversity and adaptability leads to personal and collective success.
Track and field's focus on individual improvement within a team framework has emphasized the importance of setting personal goals. Whether it's shaving seconds off a sprint time or achieving a new personal record in the triple jump, the sport has taught me the significance of self-reflection and continuous self-improvement.
These sports are not just activities I engage in; they are an integral part of my life, shaping my character and influencing my approach to challenges. The discipline, teamwork, and resilience I've gained from cross country, basketball, and track and field extend beyond the sports arena and into my academic and personal life.
Participating in these sports has instilled in me a sense of balance and time management. Balancing practices, competitions, and academic responsibilities has honed my organizational skills and taught me the importance of prioritization. The sports calendar has become a blueprint for managing my time effectively and achieving success both on and off the field.
