My name is Maren, and I am a dental hygiene student and parent of three children in Texas. I am a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) and passed the Dental Assisting National Board in 2023 to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). The American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) presented me with the Merit Scholar Award in 2023. Currently, I am a tutor for my college's Dental Assisting program and a barista on the weekend.
In the spring of 2022, I was awarded "Outstanding Dedication to Community Service" by my college. I am the Community Service Chair for my National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) chapter and have organized two volunteer events during the 2023 spring semester. I served as Treasurer for my campus Student Government Association for two consecutive terms. As treasurer, I organized free financial literacy workshops for my peers. I am an inducted member of Phi Theta Kappa (member of the All-Texas Academic Team), the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), and NSLS honor societies. During my time in my program, I served as class president of our American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA) Student Chapter.
As a hygienist, I plan to serve my community by volunteering when I can give care to those in need. I have volunteered with a community dental clinic in Houston as an RDA, HISD giving oral hygiene presentations to young children, and with Remote Area Medical (RAM) International as an RDA.
My long-term goal is to earn a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management or Dental Hygiene.
