The "Hunger Games" series, written by Suzanne Collins, is a compelling example of how a book-to-film adaptation can bridge the gap between reading and viewing experiences. As a devoted fan of the books, I found that the films brought the dystopian world of Panem to life in a way that both complemented and enhanced my reading experience. When I first read the "Hunger Games" books, I was captivated by the vivid descriptions of the characters, the oppressive society they lived in, and the brutal reality of the Games themselves. The books allowed me to immerse myself in Katniss Everdeen's world, experiencing her struggles, triumphs, and emotional journey through her eyes. When the films were released, I was initially apprehensive about how they would translate the complex themes and intense action of the books to the big screen. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how faithfully the films adhered to the source material, while also adding their own visual flair and depth to the story. The casting of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss was a revelation, as she perfectly embodied the strength, vulnerability, and fierce determination of the character I had come to love in the books. The supporting cast, including Woody Harrelson as Haymitch and Elizabeth Banks as Effie, brought their own unique interpretations to their roles, adding new layers to the characters I thought I knew so well. Seeing the dystopian world of Panem brought to life on screen was a surreal experience. The films' stunning visuals, from the opulence of the Capitol to the stark brutality of the arena, added a new dimension to the story that I had previously only imagined. The films also did an excellent job of capturing the heart-pounding action of the Games, immersing viewers in the life-or-death struggles of the tributes. For me, the "Hunger Games" films didn't just complement my reading experience; they enhanced it. Seeing the characters and events I had imagined brought to life on screen gave me a new appreciation for the depth and complexity of the story. The films also allowed me to share my love of the series with friends and family who may not have read the books, creating a shared experience that brought us closer together. At the same time, the films inspired me to revisit the books, armed with new insights and perspectives gained from seeing the story in a different medium. This has led to feelings of frustration, self-doubt, and a sense of constantly underachieving, despite my best efforts. The impact of ADHD extends beyond just academic or professional settings. It has affected my personal relationships and social interactions as well. I sometimes struggle to follow conversations, remember important details, or stay engaged in social situations. This can lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and a sense of isolation, as I feel like I'm not fully present or connected with those around me. Moreover, the constant stress and anxiety that come with trying to manage ADHD symptoms can take a toll on one's mental and emotional well-being. I have experienced periods of depression and low self-esteem, feeling like I'm not good enough or that I'm constantly falling short of expectations. The frustration of wanting to do better but feeling like my brain is working against me can be exhausting and demoralizing. However, through my journey with ADHD, I have also learned the importance of self-awareness, acceptance, and seeking support. I have worked with therapists and coaches to develop coping strategies and techniques to manage my symptoms. Moreover, I have found solace and support in connecting with others who share similar experiences. Joining ADHD support groups and communities has helped me to feel less alone and to learn from the strategies and insights of others who understand the challenges I face. In conclusion, living with ADHD has been a rollercoaster journey, filled with both struggles and triumphs. While the impact of mental health issues can be significant and far-reaching, it is important to remember that they do not define us. With self-awareness, support, and a commitment to personal growth, it is possible to navigate the challenges and embrace the unique strengths that come with having a neurodiverse mind. By sharing our stories and advocating for greater understanding and acceptance of mental health conditions, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive society for all.
    Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
The power of diverse voices in public relations has the potential to profoundly impact the shaping of public narratives. In today's increasingly diverse and interconnected world, it is more important than ever for the field of public relations to embrace and amplify a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. By doing so, public relations professionals can contribute to the creation of more inclusive, nuanced, and representative narratives that accurately reflect the complexities of our society. One of the primary ways in which diverse voices can shape public narratives is by challenging dominant assumptions and stereotypes. When public relations campaigns are created and executed by a homogeneous group of individuals, there is a risk that certain perspectives and experiences will be overlooked or misrepresented. This can lead to the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and the marginalization of certain communities. By including diverse voices in the planning and implementation of public relations strategies, organizations can ensure that their messaging is more inclusive, respectful, and reflective of the diverse audiences they seek to reach. Moreover, diverse voices in public relations can help to broaden the range of stories and perspectives that are shared with the public. When individuals from different backgrounds and experiences are given a platform to share their unique insights and narratives, it can lead to a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of complex issues. This is particularly important when it comes to addressing social and political challenges, as diverse voices can provide valuable context and shed light on the lived experiences of marginalized communities. Diverse voices in public relations can also play a crucial role in building trust and credibility with diverse audiences. When individuals see themselves and their experiences reflected in an organization's messaging and communications, they are more likely to feel valued, understood, and connected to that organization. This can lead to increased engagement, loyalty, and support from diverse communities, which can ultimately strengthen an organization's reputation and bottom line. Furthermore, the inclusion of diverse voices in public relations can help to foster a more equitable and just society. By amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, public relations professionals can contribute to the dismantling of systemic barriers and the promotion of social justice. This can involve using public relations platforms to raise awareness about issues of inequality, discrimination, and oppression, as well as advocating for policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. However, it is important to note that the inclusion of diverse voices in public relations must be authentic and meaningful. It is not enough to simply have a diverse team or to use diverse imagery in campaigns. Public relations professionals must actively work to create a culture of inclusivity, where diverse perspectives are valued, respected, and integrated into all aspects of their work. This requires ongoing education, self-reflection, and a commitment to continuous improvement. In conclusion, the power of diverse voices in public relations cannot be overstated. By embracing and amplifying a wide range of perspectives and experiences, public relations professionals can contribute to the creation of more inclusive, nuanced, and representative public narratives. This can lead to increased trust, credibility, and engagement with diverse audiences, as well as the promotion of social justice and equity. As the field of public relations continues to evolve, it is essential that diversity, equity, and inclusion remain at the forefront of the industry's priorities and practices.

"The most worthwhile thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.". This quote is from Robert Baden-Powell, creator of the International Scout Movement. When I was younger, I didn't like being outside and had few friends. When I joined the Scout Community, it was hard at first to be outside my comfort zone. I started to do things I'd never done before, such as camping, cooking, creating campfires, and small constructions. Not only did they teach me survival skills, but my social skills got better as well. I had to interact with people I didn't know, whether we were to help them or fellow scouts. I can attest that there was a change in how I was before and after I joined the movement. I'm grateful for that experience because it made me who I am today. Now I find it easier to interact with people, and I made multiple friends in college. After Covid and starting university, I haven't had much time for volunteering. I try to donate clothing or support small businesses but not as much as I would like. Since most of my time goes towards my studies and gaining experience in my field, I want to join Engineers Without Borders. This way, I can use what I've learned from college to help those in need. I plan to volunteer in my junior year when I feel I have general knowledge of sufficient engineering concepts so I can be more helpful. Furthermore, what made me study engineering in the first place was my desire to make the world a better place. "To leave the world a better place than how we found it. " as we said in the Scouts. I have seen first-person people who live in such disgraced and awful conditions and struggle to stay alive. My objective, career-wise, is to develop solutions to the problems that threaten the life quality of those who don't enjoy the same privileges most of us do. I plan to work in Research and Development to focus on clean energy and sustainable transportation. I've had the privilege of an education, food on my plate, and a roof over my head. I've received a lot of support from my family, my friends, and my community. I want to take every opportunity to help those in need. I aspire to be a person who's always willing to help those in need. I hope that with what I learn, I can change the world.

Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I never needed anything. My mother and grandparents made sure that I could do anything I wanted. My parents divorced when I was one year old. My father was never present in my life, except to sign the occasional legal document, although he was very much present in my brothers, stepbrothers, and stepsister's life. Very early on in life, I decided I wouldn't be affected by this. Because why dwell on what I don't have if I can enjoy what I do have? It's not uncommon here to see kids—whose mother is working hard to provide for the household and being present in their children's lives—and if their fathers arrive for a second after years absent, they'll pack up and leave in a heartbeat. My mother was very adamant that I have a well-rounded education. She enrolled me into a good school with good values and morals, made sure I learned English early in my life, bought me lots of books (This is how my book addiction started), paid for french classes, hired math tutors, etc. she tried to give to me anything that could help me in life. In return, I tried to make the most of every opportunity granted. I made sure not to waste all of her efforts. Not only did I graduate top of my class, but I also made the best out of my time in high school. All because she helped me push through and made me work for it. For me, college is not just the next step in my education but is also an opportunity for us. To this day, my mother still works very hard. Not only does she have a demanding job, but she is also the youngest of 5 children. She has never been free to do much because of her parents' control. She never remarried or dated after my dad, hardly went out with friends because she had a kid at home, and couldn't move out of the country because she's the only one who looks out for my grandparents. She does so much for all of our family, yet they overlook her and underappreciate her efforts. These are some of the reasons that encouraged me to study abroad. College in the US will provide me with far more opportunities than those in my country. I plan to double major in Aerospace Engineering and get a Doctorate in Mechanical; both are currently unexisting in the Dominican Republic. My goal is to do well in my career, do what I love, and be able to provide for my mother and me. I dream one day, she can quit her job and do whatever makes her happy. I can only hope to give her a fraction of what she has given me. This scholarship will not only help me, but it will also help us.

I've wanted to study abroad for as long as I can remember. Throughout high school and middle school, I work hard to maintain high grades and an excellent academic profile. I focused on what I wanted, and I had my goals set. I graduated high school with a 3.97 GPA, was Valedictorian, and was class president; I did multiple extracurricular activities: B1 french diploma, office, IT certifications, and volunteering; I'm also fluent in Spanish and English as my first languages. After high school, I got accepted into six of the eight universities I applied. By this time, Covid was at an all-time high in my country, and my family was affected by it. I received some scholarships but couldn't get much help because of my international status. I had to accept that my family couldn't afford to send me abroad. So I enrolled in a university in my country with a dual-degree agreement (2 years in my country and two years abroad). At first, I wasn't ecstatic about not being able to leave, but with time I realized how many opportunities I could seize in my current program. The first one was the double major: I enrolled in mechanical engineering, but after careful evaluation, I realized that the program is similar to aerospace engineering; the first two years have the same courses, and for the next two, I only need to complete eight credit hours. The mechanical major also offers an accelerated master's program, which means I can obtain my master's degree in half the time and at almost half the price. Plus, my major has a concentration as part of the program. All of the mentioned things are just the things I can do in my last two years. I made lots of friends at my current university. They've made me realize how difficult living in another country alone would be. I also obtained opportunities for academic and professional growth: I got the chance to work as a research assistant, documentation archiver, and TA for Engineering Graphics. I've obtained CSWA, CSWP, and python certifications. Additionally, I'm finishing a concentration in medical devices. The amount of preparation and planning I have done in the last two years is far more substantial than any plans I had years ago. I know what I want and have enough experience, skills, and resources for the upcoming years. If I had moved two the US three years ago, I would have had a BSE in two years. Now in three years, I will have a bachelor's degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering (from each institution), a master's degree in mechanical engineering, concentrations in medical devices and solid structures, and a minor in chemistry. In total: Two bachelor's degrees, two concentrations, one minor, and one master's, all for a lesser price.

I'm addressing my future debts by taking multiple actions to lower my college expenses. Going to college represents a financial strain on my family and me. Tuition cost is about 20k per year, without housing and living expenses. There are multiple things I want to do in college, but I have to remember that every decision has a cost. Most importantly, I want to ensure I don't graduate in debt. I plan to save and earn everywhere I can and generate passive income. The first thing I did was get jobs. I'm working as a TA in two engineering designs. The pay is not much, but it's not a heavy workload. This way, I can generate a nice income, but at the same time, I can devote myself to my studies. I also work in the university's documentation department under a temporal contract. Here I have a heavier workload, but my pay is more significant. Every cent I earn goes into a specific account that I opened for college. The second thing I did was take advantage of the discounts. The first one is the GPA discount. I worked hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA to get the maximum discount possible(about 10%). I also took advantage of the early pay discount and avoided late fees. The last thing I'm doing is applying to multiple scholarships. As an International Student, I have more limitations to which scholarships I can qualify. Since the odds of getting scholarships are low, I'm applying to as many as possible to maximize my chances. I have applied to over 50 scholarships in the past year, but so far, no luck. My goal for this year is to focus all my energy on getting funding. I'm currently in a transfer program that my country has with a US university. The tuition will be costlier when I transfer, and I want to minimize the impact. Not to mention it will be my first time living alone. I want to save enough money from my job to be able to pay for a year's worth of housing, and I'm very close to reaching my goal. College is a one-in-a-lifetime experience, and I want to make the most of it. My major (Aerospace Engineering) doesn't exist in my country, and this is the only way I can study. I want to enjoy my remaining years and not have to worry if I'll be able to cover the cost and be able to give my family peace of mind.

Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I never needed anything. My mother and grandparents made sure that I could do anything I wanted. My parents divorced when I was one year old. I can only hope to give her a fraction of what she has given me. This scholarship will not only help me, but it will also help us.
Yvela Michele Memorial Scholarship for Resilient Single Parents
Growing up, I never needed anything. I believe that nothing is absolute, and change is possible. Everything can be measured, defined, predicted, or quantified; everything except people. What's on a person's mind and heart is something that nobody can explain or control, not even the person themselves. Your thoughts pop into your head at random times with no warning. Sometimes you get feelings that stay with you for months. Human behavior is a variable that can have life-changing effects. I remember my first week in college when classes were still online. This girl texted in a group chat, saying their camera wasn't working. I answered her in private, and we tried to fix the problem together but utterly failed. We started talking and getting to know each other: our backgrounds, music tastes, and star charts (I didn't understand much), and eventually, we realized that not only did we have the same major, but we were the only two people in the whole university in that major. Why is this my favorite moment? Because I didn't think I'd be the type of person who would have friends in college. I had just finished high school with just one friend, who also did not have the best experience with our previous friend group. I was feeling depressed, and I entered university with the mindset that I probably would have a few acquaintances with that I would greet and discuss classes. But in just a few weeks, I made a friend. After a year, we've had sleepovers at each other's houses, late nights at the library, birthdays, trips, and many other adventures. And the best part is I didn't make just a friend. I've made dozens of friends. People with whom I've traveled, people that looked after me when I was sick, people who truly cared about me. I'm grateful for that little interaction because I don't know what would the last year be like if I hadn't met her. I can honestly attest that my mindset before meeting her, and my other friends, was way different than my previous one. Currently, we are both on our way to becoming aerospace engineers. I know my life and my success depends on me, but it's unequivocally better to take that path with someone that not only has to take it with you but someone who cares about you. Because, in the end, that is what life is about: Enjoying the journey with people you meet along the way. "People change people" (Girl meets world).
