Hi, my name is Lucas. I'm a senior in high school from Oklahoma.. I have had a couple of experiences that I can recall that brought me to some of the lowest points in my life, with my mom having kidney failure a few years back. I watched her suffer physically and financially, she spent a lot of time in and out of hositals and going on dialysis. My mom is a single mother and she is the sole provider for me and my 3 sisters. She went from a good paying job to one day having to quit due to her health. We struggled, I even got a job to help out with expenses until she was able to get a transplant and now she is trying to get back on her feet all thanks to God. My father passed away when I was very young, so I didn't have a dad to fallback on or to help my mother. But because of my mother teaching me about God and how to have faith, I was able to push through those tough times. I have made every effort to keep up good grades, and I have learned that no matter the circumstances, or obstacles that may come my way I can always depend God to always come through on my behalf. I have ALWAYS dreamed since a little kid to attend college, and my dream was to play football.Because of the sacrifices she made and the things she went through for us, I chose to pursue a degree in dentistry that would ultimately payoff financially to accomplish my promise if an athletic career didn't fall through. These tough times have groomed me into the man that I am growing to be. Hard work, faith in God, and perseverance is what has brought me this far and will continue to carry me the rest of my life.

My father passed away when I was very young, so I didn't have a dad to fallback on or to help my mother. There were times I felt like giving up, I felt depressed, and mentally this bothered me. But because of my mother teaching me about God and how to have faith, I was able to push through those tough times. I have made every effort to keep up good grades, and I have learned that no matter the circumstances, or obstacles that may come my way I can always depend God to always come through on my behalf. I have ALWAYS dreamed since a little to attend college and my dream was to play football. I told my mom that I would take good care of her and my three sisters someday because of the sacrifices she made and the things she went through for us. I chose to pursue a degree in dentistry that would ultimately payoff financial to accomplish my promise if an athletic career didn't fall through. These tough times have groomed me into the man that I am growing to be. Hard work, faith in God, and perseverance is what has brought me this far and will continue to carry me the rest of my life. This wasn't easy because I use to get down on myself, or just down because of situations in my life, but I was able to learn. I think we are all inspired by ourselves when others believe in our abilities, our character etc and this encourages us to recognize our own true potential. For. example, when I feel I have helped another person in anyway, you impact that person, but not just them. It also encourages me and make an impression on myself as well. We all want to feel that we count for something and are important to someone. People will work harder, and work more, for those who care about them, and their trust will earn you respect. My mom has always taught me that respect goes a long way and will take you far in life. So just having the right attitude alone will show alot about you. If you want to succeed at empowering people, or. encouraging others, then you need to be mindful of how you show up, how you respond and react, and how you deal with certain things. Attitudes can rub off on you, so I try to always wear a smile, and be. respectful. You can run into someone having the worst day and a simple smile, or even just a word of encouragement can turn their entire day and outlook around. I was always taught that your first impression, is your last impression. I have somehow found myself to be a leader, and some of the most empowerful leaders think about what people need to do their jobs well, to make it through life, or even just to encourage them. You can’t just assume that they have all that they need, because like myself at one point, people thought because I smiled, or didn't show any signs of distress that everything was perfect, so no one thought to give me encoragement, or to go the extra mile to make sure I was fine. Talking and sharing information, and giving them the knowledge and tools they need to be successful will show you can be one of those greatest leaders. The best leaders let others see, hear, and experience what empowerment is. They are mindful of their attitude, their moods, and their ethical background etc. Always live each day as though people are looking up to you to be an example, because in reality, someone always is. I plan to take these life lessons and share with someone else who may be facing things that Ive gone through.
2. Being that I would be the first this would mean the world to me, not only would I have a degree but also be able to take care of my family.
3. A typical day for me outside of school, is getting up early to go work and help provide for my household.
4.I feed my curiosity by reading, researching, and asking questions.
