    Faatuai and Fatilua Memorial Scholarship
From constant sunshine and ocean breezes, I made my way to the cold east of middle of Pennsylvania. Far from my hometown of Los Angeles and cultural background from Guam, I am passionate in pursing higher education and putting myself in challenging situations in order to grow individually. Attending Penn State University as a Pacific Islander with family roots in Guam carries deep personal and cultural significance. To me, it means walking onto campus each day as a living connection to the stories, traditions, and values that my family passed down. Growing up surrounded by the strength and warmth of Chamorro culture taught me to value community, perseverance, and the power of collective resilience. For me, being here in college is not just about personal growth but about representing my ancestors' legacy, the stories and traditions that shaped me. I want to ensure that their values echo and are shared within spaces where Pacific Islander voices are often underrepresented. At Penn State, I strive to merge the rich cultural identity of Guam with the university’s diverse academic community and encouraging conversations with the focus of spreading the warmth, strength, and overall unity of island life. Receiving this scholarship would be more than financial relief—it would be an acknowledgment of the unique path I have taken to be at Penn State and to be in college in general. It would represent the recognition of the sacrifices made by my family back home and more importantly, my community back in Guam, who taught me the importance of resilience, respect, and collective well-being. These values drive me to pursue excellence in my studies and inspire me to engage in leadership and community work that uplifts not only my fellow students and peers but also advocates for greater inclusion of Pacific Islander stories. I believe I should receive this scholarship because I am committed to using my experiences and education at Penn State to bridge the gaps in representation and give back to both my university and the wider community. By blending my business degree and international studies with the cultural values I carry from Guam, I am committed to making an impact that transcends the university and benefits my community and beyond. The scholarship would allow me to focus more intently on my academic and extracurricular pursuits without the significant financial stress that many students face. With this support, I could deepen my involvement in outreach initiatives, share my cultural heritage, and mentor others people are similar to myself. I want to responsible for navigating the path between deeply rooted traditions and the pursuit of higher education.
    Filipino-American Scholarship
The intertwining of Filipino-American identity has profoundly shaped my purpose in life. Although I have grown up in America, my whole family hertiage on my mom's side is Filipino. I remeber going to family event's and feeling so different than they rest of my cousins, but I was born in America and not "fully Flipino". I learned throughout my life to accept both my identities, and almost how to forge them together to help better myself and whole community. Although, being a part of the Filipino-American community has offered me a strong sense of belonging and a deep-rooted connection to my heritage and background in ways I didn't orginally understand. For example, the traditions and family values that characterize Filipino culture have been instilled in me. Which has created a profound appreciation for my community and loved ones, that i've shared with others outside my community aswell. I've witnessed the way my Filipino community comes together during celebrations, sharing traditional dishes and stories that bridge the gap between generations. I've learned my purpose in life as a giver and lover through these experiences. However as mentioned earlier, my journey has not been without its struggles. Growing up, I faced the struggle of defining my identity – torn between assimilating into the American way of life and preserving my Filipino heritage. This internal conflict sparked a period of self-discovery and reflection. Overcoming these challenges taught me the value of authenticity, inspiring my purpose to love all and encourage others to embrace their unique identities without fear. A way of also achieving my purpose in life as a giver, is to be aware of social justice and cultural representation of my Filipino culture. Witnessing the misrepresentation of my culture in mainstream media and other spheres, I feel a deep yearning to amplify our voices and stories. Overall, being Filipino-American has played a pivotal role in shaping my purpose in life. The ability to relate to my community has enriched my sense of belonging, and has allowed me to further understand my past. Furthermore, the struggles I encountered while managing my dual identity have fueled my personal authenticity. Through embracing both my Filipino and American identities, I am empowered to have a meaningful and impact life. And most importantly, create connections and bonds and overall be a beam of positivity.
