FinalistBio
Hello! My name is Lilia. I grew up in a small home in the suburbs of Minnesota, sometimes crowded with family members, as my parents and grandparents immigrated to the United States as a result of war. Being a first-generation Hmong-American woman pursuing higher education has been a challenging journey, as it was unfamiliar territory for many in my community, not to mention the financial burden that would fall on not only me but also my family.
As a result, I was a PSEO student during my junior/senior year of high school. I gained valuable knowledge and experience, enabling me to complete high school and transfer to North Hennepin Community College. Not long after, I received my associate's degree, prompting me to transfer again, this time to the University of Minnesota to study Biomedical Engineering. My interest in BME stems from a desire to leverage scientific principles and technological innovation to address pressing healthcare issues and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals worldwide.
Aside from my academic pursuits, I enjoy caring for chickens at home and engaging in artistic activities such as drawing and painting! I am fortunate to have such hardworking parents who work tirelessly to support me, and also siblings who are always willing to help when needed. They give me purpose and motivation to work toward a brighter future. I hope to provide for my family someday and give them the things they have always deserved. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to be considered for multiple scholarships. Thank you for visiting my profile!
