    Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship
Golf has been my passion ever since I was a little kid. My friends introduced me to this amazing sport when I was 12 years old, and they patiently taught me how to swing a club and hit the ball. We had so much fun playing together on the course every weekend. Golf is not just a hobby for me; it is a lifestyle. It helps me develop skills like discipline, patience, perseverance, and teamwork. It also allows me to enjoy nature and bond with people who love golf as much as I do. I will always cherish the memories of learning golf with my friends and their kindness for my mistakes. That is why I was so inspired when I learned about this scholarship. I admire Samuel D. Hartley for his courage, his intelligence, his generosity, and his love for golf. He is a role model for me and for many others who aspire to follow his footsteps. I share his dream of serving in the US Air Force, and I plan to join the Air Force ROTC program when I begin my college journey next fall. I want to learn from the best and become a leader who can make a difference in the world. My goal to serve in the Air Force is not only motivated by my admiration for Samuel D. Hartley, but also by my sense of duty and patriotism. I believe that the Air Force is a noble institution that protects our country and our values. I want to be part of that mission and contribute to the security and prosperity of our nation. I also want to challenge myself physically and mentally, and develop skills that will help me in my future career. I also want to continue my education and pursue a degree in engineering, which is my passion. I love solving problems and creating innovative solutions that can improve people's lives. I believe that engineering is a field that can combine my skills and interests in science, math, and technology. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for the Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship, which commemorates a remarkable person. This scholarship would be a valuable support for me and my family, as it would help with the cost of college tuition and expenses. This scholarship would allow me to concentrate more on my studies and my goals, and less on my worries. I am grateful for this opportunity to apply for the Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship, and I hope that you will consider me as a worthy candidate. Thank you for your time and attention.
    Michael C. Overholser Memorial Scholarship
Music is more than just a collection of sounds and rhythms. It is a powerful force that can inspire, motivate, and transform people's lives. Music has always been a big part of my life, and I want to use it to make a positive impact on others. In this essay, I will share how music inspires me and how I want to use music to inspire others. I will also express my sympathy to the Overholser family for the loss of their relative, Michael, who was a talented musician and a passionate person. I would love to honor his memory, carry the torch, and bring his passion for music into the wide world. I have loved music since I was a young child. I got my first guitar when I was 10 years old, and I learned to play piano as well by the time I was 14. Music has been a source of joy, learning, and expression for me. I enjoy playing different all genres of music, from classical to rock, from gospel to pop. Music helps me express my feelings, thoughts, and beliefs in a creative way. Music also helps me connect with other people who share the same love for music. I have made many friends through music, and we have learned from each other and supported each other. One of the ways I have used music to inspire others is by leading my local worship team on a few occasions, playing for my youth group. Music has helped me grow in my faith and serve my community. I believe that music can inspire people to worship God and love one another. Music can uplift people's spirits, comfort their hearts, and challenge their minds. Music can also create a sense of unity, harmony, and diversity among people of different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. Music can be a tool for spreading the gospel and the message of hope, grace, and love. My passion for music also stems from my admiration for the skills and talents of other musicians, especially Michael, who mastered the slide trombone, a very challenging instrument. I am amazed by his dedication, perseverance, and excellence in mastering such a complex and challenging instrument. Music is part of my daily life, and it inspires me to pursue my goals, overcome my challenges, and find balance in my life. Music fuels my study time, bringing focus and clarity to my mind. Music brings energy to my workouts, boosting my stamina and endurance. Music brings peace to my quiet moments, calming my nerves and soothing my soul. In conclusion, music inspires me in many ways, and I want to use music to inspire others as well. I am grateful to the Overholser family for giving me the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, and I am deeply sorry for their loss. Michael was a remarkable musician and a passionate person, and I would love to honor his memory and carry on his passion for music. I hope to bring his passion for music into the wide world, and use music to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
Golf is not just a sport or a hobby for me. It is a game that teaches me valuable life skills and lessons that I can use in any situation. One of the most important lessons that golf has taught me is perseverance, especially because I always walk the course. I have learned that I can choose to have a great game of golf even when the weather is bad, the course is long, or my shots are going poorly. What I love about golf is that it challenges me both physically and mentally. Walking the course is good for my health, but also for my character. It demands stamina, endurance, and resilience to keep going even when I feel tired or discouraged. It also helps me appreciate the beauty of nature and the diversity of the terrain. I have played golf in different weather conditions, from sunny and hot to rainy and cold. I have learned to adapt to the changing environment and to make the best of what I have. I have also learned to enjoy the journey, not just the destination. Another thing I love about golf is that it teaches me how to deal with failure and frustration. Golf is a game of skill, but also of luck. Sometimes, no matter how hard I practice or how well I swing, the ball does not go where I want it to. Sometimes, I make mistakes that cost me strokes or ruin my score. Sometimes, I lose to players who are better than me or who have more experience. These situations can be very frustrating and demoralizing, but they also offer opportunities for learning and improvement. I have learned to accept my mistakes, to analyze what went wrong, and to work on correcting them. I have also learned to congratulate my opponents, to respect their abilities, and to learn from their strategies. The biggest lesson that golf has taught me is that perseverance pays off. Golf is a game that rewards those who do not give up, who keep trying, and who strive for excellence. I have seen the results of my perseverance in my golf performance, as I have improved my skills, lowered my handicap, and played in some tournaments. I have also seen the results of my perseverance in other aspects of my life, such as my academics, my extracurricular activities, and my personal goals. I have learned that with dedication, discipline, and determination, I can overcome any obstacle and achieve any dream. Golf is more than just a game to me. It is a passion, a teacher, and a friend. It has shaped me into who I am today and who I want to be tomorrow. I am grateful for the opportunity to play golf and to learn from it. I am also grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, which would help me pursue my education and my career. I believe that the lessons I have learned from golf will help me succeed in the future, as I plan to study mechanical engineering. I hope to use my knowledge and skills to create positive change in the world, just like golf has created positive change in me.
Top Watch Newsletter Movie Fanatics Scholarship
"Big Hero 6" is a delightful and charming movie that is sure to become a classic. It has all of the hallmarks of the great films of the past. It manages to mix together beautiful animation and a great story, with a bittersweet ending that leaves the viewer feeling both happy and sad. The film is set in the fictional futuristic city of San Fransokyo, where two brothers live with their loveable aunt in a tall, cozy house. The story follows Hiro, a sassy fourteen-year-old with shaggy black hair and warm brown eyes who finished high school at 13. He is right on trend with other troubled misfit geniuses in films this fall including those in “The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything.” Initially, the scrawny lad invests his smarts into winning back-alley robot fights with deceptively simple electronic toys of his own design. But after Hiro has a brush with the law, older brother Tadashi invites him to check out his college’s robotics lab with thoughts of enrolling. There he meets an A-team of tech specialists: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, upbeat chemistry whiz Honey Lemon, cautious neat-freak Wasabi, and fanboy sidekick Fred. Thanks to a nifty science project involving microbots, Hiro is accepted at the school. The immense positive reaction that Big Hero 6 received is due to many things, including jaw-dropping aesthetics and an amusing sense of humor. However, I believe that the main draw of the film is the complex mix of heartbreaking sadness, hope, wisdom, humor, and naivety that are meshed together to create a powerful and enjoyable film. The film is packed with adventure and we can see some positive value in this film. It is a story that realistically depicts the power of brotherhood, encouragement, and support. It is a movie that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it. The film is also a great example of how technology can be used for good. The microbots that Hiro creates are initially intended to be used for entertainment purposes, but they are later used to save lives and protect the city from danger. This is a powerful message that resonates with audiences of all ages. Moreover, the film is a great example of how diversity can be celebrated in movies. The characters in the film come from different backgrounds and have different personalities, but they all work together to achieve a common goal. This is a message that is especially important in today's world, where diversity is often seen as a source of conflict rather than a strength. In conclusion, "Big Hero 6" is a movie that is sure to stand the test of time. It is a film that is packed with adventure, humor, and heart. It is a movie that celebrates the power of technology, the importance of diversity, and the strength of brotherhood. It is a movie that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it.

Koehler Family Trades and Engineering Scholarship
As I stand on the precipice of a pivotal chapter in my life, I, Liam Harkins, a dedicated senior at the threshold of high school graduation, am poised to embark on a journey fueled by an insatiable curiosity for the sciences. It is with a heart brimming with passion and a mind eager to unravel the mysteries of the universe that I pen this essay, aspiring to secure the Koehler Family Trades and Engineering Scholarship. This opportunity represents more than just financial aid; it is a gateway to a future where I can contribute to the world of science, not merely as a spectator, but as an active participant in its relentless pursuit of knowledge. As a child, I was always fascinated by the inner workings of gadgets and machines. My journey into the world of engineering began at the tender age of six with a "Simple Circuits" Kit. This early exposure to electronics sparked a curiosity that would shape my future. I remember disassembling flip phones and tinkering with motors, eager to understand how they functioned. This love for tinkering grew exponentially, and by the age of twelve, I was not only building but also selling "scrub bots"—a delightful fusion of scrub brushes and vibrating motors designed for both enjoyment and cleaning. My passion for engineering was not limited to physical devices. At twelve, I was writing my first computer programs in Scratch, a visual programming language that laid the foundation for my coding skills. By fourteen, I had graduated to writing C scripts and running my programs with Arduino Boards. My first major project, completed at fifteen, was a simplistic operating system that featured "accounts" for each member of my family. It even included a "reward points" system to encourage good deeds. This project, which I sold for $50, was a testament to my growing capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit. Parallel to my individual pursuits, I was an active member of my school's robotics club from around the age of thirteen. As the club's primary computer programmer, I contributed significantly to our projects and competitions. My role in the club not only honed my technical skills but also taught me the value of teamwork and collaboration. My quest for knowledge continued as I independently learned Python, delving into the realms of Java Script and Shell Script. These programming languages opened new doors for me, allowing me to explore various aspects of computer science and engineering. Now, as I stand on the threshold of higher education, my aspirations are clearer than ever. I am determined to pursue a Major in Mechanical Engineering with minors in Cyber Security and Software Engineering. My goal is to integrate my love for mechanical systems with the ever-evolving field of computer science. I believe that this combination will enable me to contribute to technological advancements and address the challenges of the modern world. In conclusion, my journey from a curious child to an aspiring engineer has been driven by an unwavering love for learning and a passion for engineering. The Koehler Family Trades and Engineering Scholarship will not only support my educational endeavors but also fuel my commitment to innovation and excellence. I am eager to embark on this next phase of my academic journey, and I am confident that my background and ambitions align perfectly with the spirit of the Koehler Family Trades and Engineering Scholarship.

    Valiyah Young Scholarship
Hello. My name is Liam Harkins, and I hope to win this scholarship through my splendid presentation contained herein. I am sixteen years old and entering into my senior year of high school. A resident of Baltimore County, Maryland, I am a committed homeschooler and have been since 2018. Since my academic goals were asked for, I will provide them also: I wish to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville and there receive a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration. I am fully aware that all this information about myself is very surface level and says nothing of my character, although I suppose you could infer from the fact that I live in Maryland that I love Old Bay and crabs. However, you are completely unaware that I am a diligent and hard worker. You have no idea that I give myself fully to any task at hand, as my family and friends will attest to. And you are completely in the dark about my strong Catholic faith, which drives my decisions and gives me an unshakable stance from which I can take on the evils of the world. Of my hobbies and interests, they are few and highly uninteresting for anyone other than myself. As a teenager, I of necessity spend vast amounts of time doing nothing with my friends. That nothingness may consist of gathering to pray the rosary, playing the piano, golfing, and a myriad of other things that have absolutely nothing to do with this scholarship. I also enjoy mountain biking, and you might realize from the fact that I abstained from mentioning this sport in the above list that I often enjoy riding alone, which I find quite refreshing. I was prompted to write about how this scholarship will help me pursue a higher education, and I must confess, I am slightly taken aback. Is it not the point of all scholarships to provide money to help pay for college? And indeed, that is exactly what I will do with this scholarship when I receive it: I will feed the proceeds into the ever-devouring beast that calls itself “college debt,” and then continue on with life as usual. However, I could provide an emotional story of how this would be my first scholarship that I have ever received, and how I would boost my confidence and give me the courage I need to pursue my dreams. Although this is true, it is a deeply personal statement that I would never share with anyone outside of my family. Finally, I was asked to write about how I have contributed to my community. In the past I have volunteered at Vacation Bible School at my local parish. My experience there was most enjoyable, and I loved being able to serve the children and bring them the word of God, which they so eagerly received. Among other community service projects, I have joined a group of other youths in assisting a poor disabled man in Western Pennsylvania. I was able to build him a wheelchair ramp so that he could get out of his house, and bring him the light of Christ, which shines through the darkness of suffering and illuminates even the darkest of times. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading my presentation, and even if you do not award me this scholarship, I hope it brought a much-needed dose of jollity into your day.
    Sammy Meckley Memorial Scholarship
Sammy sure brought joy to his community from his description. My sincerest condolences at the loss of his life. My mom loved serving the local community when I was a child and taught me the value of love of neighbor. She passed away when I was young and my adoptive mother has helped me continue her legacy. Faith, fellowship, and country are important for me as I use my freetime. As a Christian I help at my church with Vaction Bible School, Middle school youth group, and a home based prayer group at our home. These opportunities help me grow in leadership while sharing the light of Faith with other. I feel so joyful when I use my time to help others grow in virtue and the growth I have experienced through these faith service opportunities has inspired me to spend my summer between my senior year and Freshman year of college as a missionary working at a Christian Family Camp. These extra curriculars I really see as essential curriculars because Christ is at the center of all I do. I would like to highlight the home based prayer group I mentioned, following covid all the Teens felt like "Will we ever haver friends again?" My mom came up with a simple monthly prayer group concept. She and I worked together to build a great thing where we have over 50 teens in our home a month. It doesn't matter where you go to school or church, you are invited, and welcomed. As a youth leader, I have helped organize dances, trips to amusement parks, huge competions, music ministry, and been a prayer leader. It is so great to welcome other teens in our home and be an ambasodor of joy to them, introducing them to others, playing pingpong, ships and sailors, and just serving the local community. I am most proud of this opportunity to serve the community and my peer. My friends don't know how much work goes into preparing our home, hosting, and cleaning up not to mention planning everything. All of this work is absolutely worth it because as my mom says, "Friends who play and pray together, stay together." Fellowship in freetime is so important for me to live a balance life between school and other commitments. We have a golf club for homeschooler locally that I organize. We golf weekly when the weather is right and help the middle school teens learn how to play the course. These have been some amazing times and a great activity to really bring other teens together. We have been able to golf with other folks and show respect to all the golfers and the club. This may seem like a little thing but teens often get branded as disrespectful. We are glad to show that integrity and honor begins a home when you are young and does not stop in the teen years. Service to country has been very important, I was memeber of the US Sea Cadets my Freshman year taking on an additional 20 hours of coursework including PT a week, I was able to complete basic training at Quantico and learn so much about military life. I did not continue in future year as I gained the information I would need in the future to determine how I would serve our country and with life having limited hours I thought it was important to pursue the above mentioned activites outside of school plus cultivating my skills as a pianist. I intend to join the Airforce ROTC program so I can contine to serve.
    Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship
What a fine man Mr. Hartley must have been. As a homeschooled student in the state of Maryland, I am not permitted to participate in public school sports. As a result 5 years ago I became involved with the First Tee program and Youth on Course! My grandparents and uncles encouraged me to learn the sport of golf. My mom and I then got serious about golf and organized other homeschoolers who werer interested in golfing. We golf weekly when the weather is right at our local course. We also are teaching the middle school guys the lay of the course and taking them out as much as possible. Let me tell you my handicap is not over the top but golfing weekly is the best time and makes me feel fully alive. I noticed Mr. Hartley was in the Air Force. I am intending on participating in the Air Force ROTC program in college and then serving the country as an engineer. I was happy to find out that many Air Force bases have great golf courses too. My goal ultimately is to be awarded the Air Force Scholarship, this does not cover room and board. This scholarship would be very helpful to cover those expenses as I am the oldest of 8 children. My mom ever the economist loves golf being that Youth on Course it is a value sport at $5 for 18 holes. Financial responsibility is important to me as I hope one day to have a large golfing family as well. I look forward to the potential opportunity to be part of the Air Force, like Mr. Hartley, my grandfather, and uncle! The college I intend to attend, Franciscan University of Steubenville, is just a stone’s throw from Pittsburgh where my grandparents and family reside. We have already planned how many this with be for great family time on the golf course. It is wonderful how golf is multigenerational. Just the other day I was able to coach my 3 younger siblings from ages 6-10 at the PGA Drive, Chip, Putt competition. It is unusual for a sport in our current age to bring families together on a level playing field. Additionally, I enjoy going and driving a bucket of balls with my dad, brother, and sister albeit that she is not a fan of the sport, while my mom watches from the picnic tables with the babies. Occasionally, Mom will 'teach us how to golf' when she can't drive a ball in any way. She says, "I know how to golf, I just can't do it." I love golf so much because from friends, to family, through to extended family we can grow closer together while participating in such a fun game. It doesn't matter what your ability golf is a great time and workout (no carts until you are 17). You can't play lacrosse anywhere you go in the world, but golf is a forever sport. My homeschooling experience has been enriched with golfing and my clubs will be the first item that goes in the van to take to college. With thanks for your consideration. Liam Harkins
    Maverick Grill and Saloon Scholarship
You could say I am a maverick, but I am really just a high school/college-level student with an interest in biking, golfing, skiing, programming, mulching, house flipping, and mechanical engineering. Thanks to my very invested parents and an abundance of amazing friends, I have lived an incredibly varied life and picked up many interesting hobbies along the way. Consider just my educational experience. I have been homeschooling for five years and, at age 16, am enrolled in both high school and college. I love all of the many fields of science, but I am probably the most advanced in biology: in this subject alone I already have 8 college credits! I am currently taking online courses at a Catholic college in Ohio, but I plan to be an on-campus student by the fall of next year. School is important to me, but I also have many extracurricular hobbies. Some of my previous engagements have been volunteering at a hardware store, participating in a junior military program, and working at my local golf course. I like to think of myself as a mountain biker and I try to go biking on the trails behind our house whenever I can. I am an avid golfer, usually playing one round per week in the spring and summer months. And in the winter, I enjoy skiing with my father and friends. I enjoy reading a variety of books, from adventure novels to historical biographies to encyclopedias. Around my neighborhood, I shovel snow and mulch garden beds for my neighbors. I am also proficient in C, a computer language that is used to program Arduino boards. I have built several projects with Arduino, including a handheld game and a reward system contained within a book. Many kids in my local community also travel as a group to a Catholic summer camp in Ohio, an activity that I take part in. My parents own a rental business and I assist in remodeling new purchases. Also, my family hosts a teen center every month, hosting about forty teenagers and creating an amazing opportunity for the community. I am both a guitarist and a pianist and have used my musical talents to help lead praise and worship sessions at our teen center. On top of all of this, I come from a family of ten and am the oldest of eight children. How am I able to lead such an abundant life? Well, I must first congratulate my parents. They are the ones who have helped me to make my school plan, boosting my towards educational greatness. Not only this, but they facilitate all the other extracurricular activities that I engage in. They have been the constant encouraging voice in my head, urging me onward through this beautiful life. My friends have also been a considerable factor in my life. All the activities that I so enjoy would be but loneliness without their amiable company. These people, these extracurriculars, these sports, these school achievements; these are what make me a maverick.
