Bio

Hello, my name is Liam, and I'm a transgender man looking to pursue a career in the arts! Ever since I was young I've been known to spend hours drawing and designing fictional characters and worlds; I hope that one day I can turn this passion into my daily life. I've been involved in several extracurricular activities since starting high school, the most notable of these being the International Thespian Society. I've costumed and designed for over ten high school productions, and I've participated in several art-centered projects that my school has hosted. Art truly is my passion, and my goal is to attend the school I fell in love with without placing myself in a position of debt.

Art's way of expressing emotions and ideas is what makes it so undeniably special. Whether it'd be a simplistic song serenading the sky on a sunny afternoon or a dark piece that fueling angst brought on by burden, art has a way of communicating that no other media comes even close to impersonating. This is why I want to pursue it as my life-long career -- I want to be able to make people across several generations feel that they're understood, make them feel seen. I know that I, personally, wouldn't be here without the products of art that kept me going. For example, when I was a young child, I remember spending hours at art galleries. Others spent their days at entertainment centers, at the park, or with their friends; I found comfort in the colors found weaved into various canvases. Being an unpopular child was never easy, but there was a certain solace to be found in art. And, outside of paintings and sculptures, video games and movies showed me characters that were like me. As a young boy with no friends, this was one of the first times I felt understood. Art showed me that I wasn't alone, that I didn't have to be reduced to my disabilities or mental disorders. It broke the shackles society had placed on me. I believe that I am not the only one with this experience. Society has always been evolving, changing, but art has remained in it for centuries. Cave paintings depict the daily life of those living thousands of years ago, reliability oozing from the natural paints fading away from the rocks. These pieces of art are the most human things we have from the past; pottery and architecture are just two other forms of art that have shown us what life was like many years ago. This is why I believe art is so important to society: it outlives the artists. It depicts universal ideas in a way that never truly fades. Writers like Shakespeare and painters like Leonardo da Vinci are famous not because they chose to be, rather because they were able to express ideas that the world around them related to. In summary, I believe art's value lies in its ability to portray people and their ideas in a way that outlasts the artists. It's a concept that places emphasis on the idea of morality, forcing people to look deeper into the world around them. Art, I believe, is one of the only ways people become immortalized, even if their names are not known. For art has the power to communicate, and humans are always seeking those they understand and those who understand them in return.
