My name is Lexie Vross. I am interested in pursuing a career as an electrician. I have been a student in the Mechatronics Program for the past two years at my local Career and Technical Education Center. Mechatronics means we learn about the mechanical and electrical industries. All our panels and instruments are state-of-the-art and have been donated by our local businesses. I am learning the same type of instruments as the professionals. This is intriguing, and my Mechatronics class has become my favorite part of my school day. As I was deciding what to do with my future, I naturally thought of a career in the trades, with becoming an Electrician as my goal. I think it’s fascinating to learn how to wire a panel and be able to wire residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. My high school career has been very successful. I have maintained a 3.95/4.0 GPA while taking 31 dual-enrolled college credits. This year, I have been voted as the senior class president of 118 students. Throughout high school, I have been actively involved in our student government, clubs, sports, band, drama and volunteered at my church and within the community. My high school career has been very enjoyable and productive, but I’m ready to replace my desk with a hands-on learning environment. I’m passionate about learning; I’m prepared to continue my hands-on training in a technical college. Spending money and time attending a four-year college seems unimaginable to me. I want to roll up my sleeves and learn what it takes to become a successful electrician. I love that there are so many possibilities in this field and that each day provides new challenges and opportunities. The demand for electricians is rising significantly, and I’m excited to begin this path. Being an electrician will keep me mentally stimulated, which I appreciate because I have strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. I am not the type of person to sit behind a desk. I enjoy the stimulation of being physically and mentally active. The role of an electrician is exactly the career that will best suit my personality. I have a strong desire to learn, and I like to challenge myself. Along with the fieldwork, I know it’s essential to stay abreast of codes and regulations to keep safety my top priority. I’m passionate about being an electrician because the skills I will obtain over the next few years will be useful to me throughout my lifetime.
