Wendy Alders Cartland Visual Arts Scholarship
I started in art at a very young age beginning with fashion design when I was around six years old. I always had a heart to spread a positive message with art to empower people. I am motivated by the outcome of my pursuit in art; who it could help, how it can empower, how it inspires, and how it can be a blessing. Art is who I am. I have built my eighteen years on this earth around creating. I am thankful for a supportive family who has always had my back in whatever I hoped to pursue in life; whether a fashion show or college. I have my associate’s degree in Fine Arts from the Community College of Baltimore County. I am working on my bachelor’s degree in Digital Design in Media Production with a minor in Photography at Liberty University. When I am not a full-time college student, I am involved in many creative ventures and volunteer work. I have an established photography business, graphic design business, and fashion design business. I am also an up-and-coming author. I enjoy many types of art and I pursue them passionately. Much of my work in photography and design is for small nonprofits, churches, and businesses. I provide affordable, yet quality work to help them grow and meet the needs of the community. I use my creative skills for practical purposes to build up others and their businesses. Art is important to me and I love making a difference in the community through art. I am on the board of directors of a local domestic violence agency and I help them with social media and photography as well. That one flyer, post to raise awareness or funds, or photo of a survivor sharing their story at an event, could help someone rise up out of a horrific situation. Art has given me much life, and I love being able to give back to the community through art. I have many career and academic goals but my main dream is to start a faith-based academy for youth to learn about art and design. My art-focused education helped expand my horizons in the arts and I hope to be able to provide that to the younger generation. I not only want to give them a space to learn art but also be able to apply it through serving their communities. My education in the arts will help me to have a broad scope of the arts industry to prepare for this vision. I have been accepted into and plan to transfer to Savannah College of Art and Design after completing my bachelor's. I will do my masters in Creative Business Leadership to help build a quality foundation that my businesses can run on successfully. This award scholarship will help me finish my degree, gain the tools I need to accomplish my goals and make a difference through art. Thank you for your consideration!
