I am a single mother who was raised in poverty and in a chaotic environment. I am determined to show my daughter that it doesn't matter what background you come from, completing college is possible if you set your mind to it. I want to provide a better future for my daughter, so I am determined to do whatever it takes to get there.

I am a first-generation student and a single Hispanic mother living in Colorado, USA. I was raised in poverty by a single mother who had many addictions, it was a very chaotic childhood, so continuing my education when I was a child was a challenge that I was able to overcome with no support from my family. I share this part of my story because the way I was raised has inspired me to be determined and resilient, and now being a mother has inspired me to create the life that my daughter deserves.
My challenging childhood has inspired me in many ways, I have a passion for helping others now, I enjoy spending my free time volunteering as a Victim Advocate to help others recover during very traumatic times. My life mission is to "make a difference one person at a time by serving with love, care, and purpose". I enjoy living a life of servitude.
Unfortunately, my challenging childhood and where I come from has also made it difficult for my education. I have no moral or financial support from my family, so continuing college has been a struggle for me. I lost my main job during the pandemic, so now I can barely make enough to pay my bills. I have been doubting myself, as at the moment it seems like I can't continue my education unless my situation changes. But having my daughter believe in a better future is important for me, I want her to see that it doesn't matter what background you come from, a education is possible, and we can outgrow the negative situations in life and just learn from them and move on. I am so close to achieving my academic goals. It is important for me to finish college, as it will help me provide a better future for my daughter.
My daughter motivates me to stay strong and determined regardless of what challenges or obstacles come my way. So even with my financial challenges, I have continued pushing for a better future, my daughter deserves to have a good life full of opportunities, I want to provide her the life I couldn't have growing up. I am for the first time ever applying for scholarships, because I know that the universe opens doors when other doors close, and I am determine to find the next way out of my situation. Being a single mother with no support has thought me that I can do anything I set my mind to do.
