Connie Konatsotis Scholarship
This scholarship will help me pursue a mechanical engineering degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology to benefit society externally and internally.
When I was looking at the opportunities offered at this college, I found an associate professor, Azadeh Ansari, who caught my eye. She is specifically developing microbristle robots to treat diseases by directing the cells to carry out their intended functions, like delivering lymphocytes, a.k.a. T-cells, to defend against bacteria. I love the idea of helping someone fight a battle against internal problems, such as leukemia and pancreatic cancer.
Along with Professor Ansari's study on microbristle robots, I want to participate in the multiple study abroad programs at this institution. It aligns with my passion to learn about different cultures and provides a basis for engineering skills.
Another program I am specifically interested in is the Summer Aboard to China. Dr. Jiafeng Zhou, a professor at the University of Liverpool, can strengthen my knowledge in developing sustainable cities for communities. I can develop solar energy buildings, to reduce the carbon footprint of urban areas. This professor encourages students to think outside the box when identifying methods to provide a safe and healthy environment.
Georgia Tech also offers Girls Excelling in Math and Science. This organization will allow me to connect with younger girls to pursue a career in the engineering field. I know I would have been inspired to see women in the STEM field come to my coding club when I was in the elementary school robotics club. I love to encourage people to pursue their passion because of the sense of pride I feel when they understand they can make an impact with their knowledge. I can never replace that sensation of pride and joy.
I want to be a residential assistant at Georgia Tech because I want to be there for people in difficult situations. I know from personal experience how hard it feels to feel alone. I can distinctly remember the feeling of attending a different country during my freshman year of high school. It was a struggle to make friends during COVID year because I didn't know anyone from the middle schools that attended my high school and the epidemic forced me to study online for the whole school year. I want to be the person that allows someone's college experience to feel a little less lonely. This scholarship can allow me to impact people physically and mentally with mechanical engineering.

Once I receive my degree from Georgia Tech. I hope to start my engineering firm. I want to create designs and innovations, like microbristle bots or eco-friendly buildings, that can positively impact the earth and its people. I can tell my story and struggles to people to show that they can work towards making the world a better place. I love the idea of giving back to the community by giving advice and tips on how to work towards their dreams.

Aserina Hill Memorial Scholarship
I have recently started a tutoring organization! YAY! I have implemented a community tutoring service program for middle to help middle and middle students of the Douglas County School System. I find it necessary to implement this program because of the great sense of pride when someone can learn something I taught them, and I know how it feels to need a little help to succeed. In my county, there is a current issue of younger students testing lower than in other surrounding counties. My capstone project will solve this county-wide situation with a tutoring service program. It is necessary to provide tutoring based on my own experience. When I was in elementary school, I used to have a difficult time reading fluently compared to other students in my age demographic. My school provided me with a tutoring session every Tuesday morning to improve my reading skills. Eventually, I got into an accelerated program for my elementary school. Without the extra assistance of my tutoring sessions, I am not sure I would have had the confidence to excel in my honor and AP classes. With help from the high school community, I want to allow younger students to access some help to succeed in their academic goals.
With my tutoring service, I hope to help elementary and middle school students of Douglas County System’s test scores are below the national average, according to a reliable news site called US & World News Report. The root cause for this issue in the school system is the lack of opportunities to receive additional help in subjects. The lack of opportunities can stem from a lack of teachers in the community, a limited amount of resources, or the setback of COVID-19. All these factors can decrease the chances of strong academic students. It is necessary to encourage students throughout their younger grade levels to develop stronger and adaptable students as they enter high school and postsecondary forms of education.
We would provide a tutoring service in the morning or afternoon depending on the time that works best for the students. Currently, I have implement the program at Holly Springs Elementary School and New Manchester Elementary School. The sessions have been about 30 minutes to an hour to ensure students receive personal time with the subjects they struggle with. I would like to have three to five high school students participate in this weekly program for two reasons. It gives students a chance to connect with their community and takes the strain off the limited amount of teachers in the Douglas County School System. We can teach the subjects core class of ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The goal of this organization is to increase the nationwide test scores of Douglas County Students.

Georgia Tech also offers Girls Excelling in Math and Science. This organization will allow me to connect with younger girls to pursue a career in the engineering field. I am in love with the idea of helping students because of all the cheerleading volunteer service I did for elementary students. The face a person makes when they can achieve something extraordinary gives me a great sense of pride that I am helping them with their confidence and skills. It allows me to interact with younger students to encourage them to achieve something they once believed was out of their reach because of their gender. I know I would have been inspired to see women in the STEM field come to my coding club when I was in the elementary school robotics club.
I want to be a residential assistant at Georgia Tech because I want to be there for people in difficult situations. When I first came my high school I felt isplated because I didn't a lot of people. I cam from a different middle school where a lot of them attend another high school within the county. I want to be the person who can make them feel welcome in the new environment of college.
Georgia Tech can allow me to impact people physically and mentally with mechanical engineering.
