There have been a lot of creative, amazing, and astonishing inventions in the past 10 years ranging from self-driving cars to virtual reality headsets. My favorite invention by far is the iPad simply because it was something I grew up with. My family got an iPad when I was 6. I remember taking all the selfies I could with it and spending time with my siblings playing with it. Since my brother and sister are 6 and 7 years older than me, respectively, it was one of the only ways I could bond with them. When I was 7, I used the iPad to learn addition and subtraction. By 8, I was using it to learn multiplication and division. I will never forget the overjoyed expression on my father's face when he saw that I was picking it up so quickly. I got my first phone at 9, but is still favored the iPad because it was bigger. The iPad has had such an impact on my life and learning; I can't help but love it.
My ambition and overall goal in life is to become a doctor. It started with copying my sister's dream, but it evolved into something more. I want to go into medicine to help all people. There are biases against minorities in healthcare, which is a serious issue. I want to be in the industry, so I can eliminate the unfair treatment of minorities. Some people do not go to doctors because they feel like their issues will not be heard. Everybody should feel comfortable going to get help and pointing this out to the healthcare community has to be a priority. This is where I need to come in. Through my studies, I hope to advance equality in healthcare and get rid of inherently racist biases that the system has.
This goal has come about because I have personally witnessed subpar treatment of my family and our friends because we are black. My older sister has health issues, so she goes to the doctor on a frequent basis. There are visits where she is not treated well and her issues are not taken seriously. She was just hospitalized due this fact last week, and I think it is outrageous. This past month, my brother went with my sister to the doctor. The nurse was so visibly frightened of him that he left the room in order to try and help my sister get better care. This is an unacceptable incident. I need to become a doctor to prevent things like this from happening. There are many similar events going all over the country. When I get older and start my career, I will reduce the amount of situations like these.
