Success is a tricky thing. It can mean many different things to many different people. To me success means to accomplish a goal. No matter if it’s big or small, any accomplished goal is a success. In order to be successful, however, you must first accomplish your goals. This can only be done through dedication and hard work. This is precisely the mindset I was raised to have. My father, being a blue collar worker, has told me time after time that nothing is given, nothing is free, but it is earned. Although he had told me this, it had never really sunk in until I started wrestling. The sport of wrestling is the embodiment of “success is earned, not given”. If you expect to succeed in wrestling without working hard then you will get completely and utterly dominated. This mindset I have adopted from the sport of wrestling; this mindset to work towards a goal and to earn what you believe to be yours. This mindset is what I believe will bring me success in life and is what I hope to pass on to the next generation as a wrestling coach and teacher.
