Bio

My name is Kyra Mabine. I was born and raised in Ahoskie, NC. You may ask yourself, "Where is that?" It's a small town near Virginia. As I grew up in this small town, I haven't seen many make it out of here. I plan on being one of the ones that do make it out. This place is home, but I cannot stay here. Ahoskie isn't a place I need to live because of the lack of opportunities and my ambition. I have been in public school since I was five. I never learned how to write or prep for standardized testing. These subjects are beneficial in the real world. While taking the SAT and ACT, I noticed how I wasn't ready for college and set aside time to teach myself these subjects. I plan to prove all of my teachers wrong and show them the strength I have in me. My goals are phenomenal; I plan on being successful and educated. In Ahoskie, the success I would have isn't as successful as I want to be. I know I have it in me to reach my goals. I always keep my head high, and I view my failure as a lesson. I hope that college will prep me for life and allow me to have way more lessons to learn.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is the subject that makes me lose track of time. I enjoy learning about these subjects because it allows me to develop neural pathways. It also prepares me best for problem-solving. These subjects have taught me how to think logically and draw conclusions based on what I know. Science, Technology, Engineering, and math is intriguing because it helps with challenging myself, test scores, and other classes. Every time I am doing math or science, I like to challenge myself. I can go for periods without laying my eyes on a single math problem. When I go periods without seeing a math problem, I try my best to answer it correctly. Math is the type of subject that you have to practice to get better. If I haven't practiced in a while, it takes me longer to finish an assignment. I often time myself when I go months without a math problem and compare it to the time I had when I had a math class. My times are never too far apart from each other because I only go three months without studying math. I like to study math and science frequently when I have a test coming up. I take tests weekly, and most of the time my math and science scores improve. Improving on my math and science boosts my class average significantly each time. When I have an upcoming test, I practice formulas and use flashcards daily along with word problems. I study these because they are difficult for me. In addition, sometimes I can struggle with other subjects and math usually helps. Word problems help with reading comprehension. Reading is involved in everyday life at school and out. Reading word problems can help with social studies, science, and reading class. Science often has numbers and charts in assignments. Studying charts in math helps understand patterns, the number of relationships. Math taught me how to understand figures which allows me to interpret social studies model theories. Technology is used in everyday life at this point. The technology part of STEM gets me ready for high-tech environments when I get older. I find myself always searching the web and using the tools. Growing up, I have seen how technology developed over the years. Technology is making the world a better place, creating new inventions, and making living easy. Engineers create devices, machines, and software. This subject helps solve problems easily and with fewer resources. Learning about engineering is challenging and thrilling. Engineers bring our ideas and make them a reality. Engineering brings all technology, math, and science together to save lives and improve them as well. In conclusion, these subjects interest me because it is beneficial. I will spend hours on these subjects. The time I lose while working doesn't bother me at all. I am so intrigued by how it helps me in life. STEM has always been my number one pick. As the school year continues, I see that I should study more and more every day. STEM is helpful in everyday life and every situation.

My relationship with my beloved mother, Shelly Mabine, has influenced me to attend college because she pushes me to be the best I can be. Ever since I was young, she has helped me become mentally tough and financially responsible. I believe she did that to prepare me for the real world. My mother has always had my back throughout my life. My mother has influenced me to go to college with her support, discipline, and love. Throughout my life, my mother has always been right behind me every step of the way. My mother has shown me how it feels never to be alone. I have never had to deal with anything without assistance because I have always had her. There were some situations I have been in that almost had my mother thrown in jail and locked away forever. Although, my mother never cared about what she had to do to others when it came down to me. I have had times that teachers treated me wrong. Those are the times that made my mother take matters into her own hands. When I got teased at school, my mother reminded me that I was her pretty little girl. My mother has tracked my grades and reminded me to keep a positive attitude. As a child, If I came home on red: my mother would discipline me. Once I started to understand why I was on red, I changed my whole demeanor. In elementary school, "red" meant that you were disobedient in class. Growing up, I have always kept my grades up. Impressing my mother helped me make sure I was never disappointing her. The feeling that I get when my mother is disappointed makes me feel pitiful. I make sure that her being upset does not happen often. I try to keep my mom in a good mood because she suffers from manic depression. Manic depression is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings. Even with her diagnosis, my sister and I have been her main priority. She's shown love when she was at her lowest. She has never given up on herself or us. My mother has tried her best to be the best mom she can be. My mother has catered to me ever since I was born. All of my needs are taken care of daily. Even on days that she does not feel like her, she communicates with me. I have never experienced not having a friend because she is the best one I could ever have. I know that my mother will stick by my side for life. She believed in me when nobody else did. My mother has shown me a love that nobody else will provide. My mother has even shown me that she can be the best with a mental health condition. Shelly is a person that pushes me more than she could ever imagine. I know I could never fully repay my mother for everything she has done for me. However, once I am educated and financially stable, I will take care of her.
