Did you know the average nursing student sets aside a minimum of 24 hours a week to study for upcoming exams? Well as a junior in nursing school, I can say that this statement sounds pretty accurate. Could you imagine studying for 24 hours minimum a week, that's pretty much studying for an entire day with no breaks. As a nursing student, I love to have different study methods to make studying more effective instead of starting at the same thing over and over again which at some point just gets boring. If you are anything like me you learn in many different ways, these ways could be visual aids, writing it out, flashcards, quizzes and so many more. The ways of studying just continue to grow and grow, there are many online resources I love to use. I mainly use Quizlet, YouTube and My Evolve. I have used Quizlet since I was in high school and continue to use it to this day. I take my notes from class make them into questions and create flashcards online with these notes. Quizlet allows you to work on your short-term and long-term knowledge by playing matching games, taking exams, studying flashcards and even using AI to go into extreme depth about the topic you're learning about. I like Quizlet due to the ability to have a little bit of fun with studying. I think the way Quizlet lets you have multiple different ways of practicing the information you type up allows you to build on the knowledge and learn what material you are studying. I have created more than 40 study sets with over 100 terms in each set and I will continue to use Quixlet until I graduate. The next helpful online tool I use is YouTube, YouTube is an online streaming service that allows people to upload videos online. I use YouTube to watch procedure videos like proper handwashing, correct PPE, head-to-toe assessments, insertion of Foley catheter, etc. The amount of visual aids available for nursing students on YouTube is endless, if you are a visual learner like I am it helps to be able to physically see the procedures we have to know as nurses done over and over again. knowing the correct steps to do a procedure like this helps avoid errors when it comes time to do it in person. The last thing I use to help me study is My Evolve, this is an online book library that my school provides for students so we have as many available resources at our fingertips as we may need. These books are filled with visual aids, test questions, NCLEX questions, HESI reviews, and many pages filled with information we are currently studying. It helps me be able to do my readings and then go in and take quizzes over the reading I just did. Being able to take practice quizzes whenever I need to for extra help looking at questions that could pop on on my exams and even my NCLEX has helped me succeed in nursing school. These books are where I get most of my information and then take my notes and add them to a quizlet. I enjoy my online books because I can highlight and bookmark pages without having to carry around 100 books. If I could advise any students who need help studying is to look around and find what works best for them. There are many resources available for you and each resource can help with every single different way you process and obtain information. I strongly advise Quizlet and YouTube.
