I am a 2 sport varsity athlete consisting of football and wrestling. I am also into the arts due to me being leads in plays and musicals at my school and being one of the soloist in my a cappella singing group called the C tonians. Above all I am very involved in my church and am the co-audio team manager where we attend 5 days a week and do service for my hometown (Newark, NJ). I think of myself as well- rounded and gifted with a multitude of talents but unlike most I have a extra drive to help my family get out of our financially unstable lifestyle and help other kids of Newark in the same climate. Just 4 years ago I was in public school and was able to become valedictorian of my class and be able to get accepted into the prestigious preparatory school that I now attend(Seton Hall Prep). This year I will be heading off too college and I got accepted into all of the schools I applied for: NCAT, Penn State, Drexel U, Quinnipiac U, Hofstra U, Howard U, NJIT, and lastly SUNY Stonybrook U. Although it took me a while to weigh my options I decided to go to Howard University to continue my education and become a Mechanical Engineer. Hopefully I could make my dream a reality.

What do I want to accomplish? Simply I want what everybody wants: to give my family a better life and help my city the best way I can with my new found knowledge. My mom is a prime example of the virtues I plan to follow. My mom is a single mom who not only has to take care of me but also takes care of my Avó who has been suffering with Alzheimer's' ever since I was born. Even despite my mom having me at the age of 21 she went back to school while struggling to put food on our table. In the bible it tells us that God will never give us more than what we can bear and he will provide enough so that we can endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). That is why God has blessed me with all my gifts and a wide variety of talents both physically and mentally so I can endure for my people.
Just like my mom dedicates her time to making Newark great by hiring and training Newark residents who may otherwise not have an opportunity to obtain employment. My dream is to make Newark the next Silicon Valley, home of the most cutting-edge start-ups and global technology companies. To do this, I will need to focus on the growth, training, and development of the students within my community. Not just building stronger math, science, and technology skills but focusing on innovation. I have attended Public, Private, Charter, and Catholic school in Newark and the one consistent missing piece to my education has been thinking outside the box. I like asking the question “What if...” Only by asking the question, can we then come up with the solution. For example, what if we can design a car that interlocks like ‘Legos’ so instead of buying a new car every few years you can interchange the body parts. What if we can create solar panels for cars, phones, and homes etc. which will free us from reliance on gas and electricity. The possibilities are endless if we are brave enough to ask the question along with providing the resources to make it happen.
As of next year, I am proud to announce that I will be a Howard Bison. I have selected mechanical engineering as my major and am anticipating residing on campus. Washington D.C. will be a monumental change for me having resided in Newark all my life. However, a wise woman once said,” no matter where I go, I’ll never forget home.” This quote keeps me focused and tethered to home – Newark New Jersey. During my college application process, I must admit receiving funny looks when I say, “I’m from Newark.” I am reminded of a bible scripture John 1:46 “...Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” The answer is Yes! Resources and opportunity are what separates the have and the have nots. To the best of my ability, I would like to close that gap for Newarkers.
