I believe that the best way to reach peoples minds and hearts is through art, it worked for me and I believe it can work to open other people's minds as well. The world tends to hate what they don't understand, which is why my goal as an aspiring film maker is to open the minds of people who may have hatred for this community by showing how beautiful and loving we are through my creative medium. Growing up in a very strict and religious home I was meant to believe that anything other than being the gender you were assigned, or getting married to the opposite gender was wrong, but when I saw LGBTQ+ representation in the shows I'd watch as a kid I realized being gay is an option I have. I was excited to explore and learn more to find my own identity. I then found short films, and I fell in love with the art. Those short films are the reason I'm so passionate about film today. When the topic was brought up to my family I was ridiculed, but I grew up. I was able to explore all my options independently and realized why I always felt so different when growing up. If it wasn't for the media and writing I found as a kid, I fear for where and who I'd be today. When I moved away from my family and became unsheltered from the world I was able to see how many people got live the same way I always wanted. Soon enough I was able to fully express my queerness in all forms of myself, even at home. Since I was finally able to fully be myself without apology or religious ridicule, I decided I wanted to share queer stories. My true passion is to be able to share all parts of the LGBT community and share those stories with the world. I want my films to have strong messages that will impact people in a positive way and share the beauty, passion, and love that comes with being queer despite the worlds pushback. Being able to go to school to improve my writing skills and gaining hands-on learning with a camera will prepare me for creating my dream films so people can discover more and true insight on our wonderful community and help others open their hearts to being accepting to the people they may not understand, and help others who were like me feel open to expressing themselves in being who they truly are.
