I would describe myself as an open person to opportunities. Yes, I am afraid at first, but that is always the first sign to take the leap and do something more for yourself. This brought me to the idea that I would want to be a nurse! In specifics, I would like to be a traveling nurse as I would get the chance to not only work in the field that I have always wanted to work in, but also be able to travel and get to know the different kinds of cultural norms that there is to see from state to state. I am very excited to see the different adventures and opportunities I will get as long as I put my all into it.

I tend to pursue working in medicine by being a nurse. Nurses are mostly known for their caring and nurturing hearts for their patients. In order to keep achieving this morale that people have of nurses, one must continue it by being able to acknowledge the way in which our bias may be in the way or how we are reflecting our day onto the patient. I have seen a nurse not give adequate care and attention to their patient. The one moment that completely made me realize that there may be a bond missing between nurses and children was when my sister, who happens to be afraid of needles, did not have a very good experience as an 11-year-old in the hospital. When my sister was getting a vaccine in the hospital, instead of being comforted by the nurse, she was told to act her age. In my opinion, this is not something a professional nurse should say, especially to a child. There should be a respectful interaction and give the kids an experience that should not mentally scar them in a way like this. Starting at a young age, children should be shown that coming to the doctor should be a nice experience and even inspire them to lead a career like this if they desire to do so. Through my sister's experience, it brings me to desire to become a pediatric nurse in order to cultivate a healthy experience for children. I wish to lead children in feeling comforted through their tough times within the hospital.
Another reason for my pursuit of nursing is that I want to change the way in which the Latino community tends to not fully trust the medical staff. Usually, this leads back to certain traumas that they had previously endured, and they normally do not know how to cope with that sort of situation. I want to help assist the way in which they view the medical workers. I can do this by connecting with my patient through he connection of a language barrier. I hope to be able to translate and enunciate their symptoms with their doctors by acting as. catalyst in order to bring them comfort. I will prove to them that it is possible to have a positive experience with medical professionals.
Nurses are the backbone of hospitals. They do the work that is not directly seen but everyone would encounter more of a struggle without them. I would like to contribute to these sorts of situations by being part of this strong backbone for the medical system.

My mission for joining the healthcare industry is to make my community a more loving place by being a backbone for hospitals as a nurse. They do the work that is not directly seen but everyone would encounter more of a struggle without them. As a nurse, I hope to be able to make everyone feel equal and deserving of the same respect. When one goes to the hospital, your first encounter is always with the nurse who should come with a positive attitude to make the visit a more pleasurable one. Through this role, I want to be a catalyst for changing how the Hispanic and minority communities tend to lack trust in the medical community due to issues such as previous historical events, medical costs, and traumas that they had previously endured. It is my goal to lead the way in changing the perspectives of our underserved communities and prove that it is possible to have a positive experience along the continuum of health with all medical professionals. I want to help assist how they view medical workers. I will prove to them that it is possible to have a positive experience with medical professionals.
As part of the Hispanic community, we do not have the best encounter with medical professionals. I come into this world as a catalyst for my mother. I am the one who makes the appointments for her checkups, I am the translator in the room, and I am the one who must do everything in my power to make sure my parents get their point across when in the doctor's office. There have been circumstances where the nurses have lost their temper and have lashed out when they are not able to explain something properly to my parents. The language barrier brings chaos within both of these worlds without a doubt. I desire to change these circumstances takes through being able to translate for others within the hospital as a bilingual nurse to take some burden off my patients within the hospital.
Although most people have had bad experiences when it comes to the health industry, We are to be the change of this course that has taken and create it into something blooming for our community. These barriers are difficult to overcome but this is something that can still be possible to control to create a more united community within the healthcare industry.

WinnerI plan to make my community a more loving place by being a backbone for hospitals as a nurse. They do the work that is not directly seen but makes the most impact on the patients due to the amount of interactive time. Although that is in the future to come, there are a couple of ways to help the present community. One way that I do this is by being a leader to the younger children and even high schoolers. During the holidays, I volunteered at a grandparents and grandchildren event where there were various activities where the grandchildren would be able to bond with their grandparents during the process of the activities. It was difficult for them to bond with one another at the beginning but I feel like I gave them certain attributes needed to come closer to one another and understand each other on a different level. This moment impacted me the most for the children are the bright future of our community and must be nurtured in a way where they are also able to give back to the world.
Another moment where I have helped my community is whenever there is an opportunity to translate for those who cannot speak English, I come into play to have them feel heard as a person who also had the same issues as others. When volunteering at a Latino Organization, La Amistad, where their main priority is serving Latinos in Atlanta with a nurturing environment, I came to encounter other struggling minorities who could not advocate speaking for themselves as easily in English. I desire to give back to the community by being able to help those who struggle and even have them give back to their community. I desire to give back to those the same way I have been given help in the most ways possible.
In conclusion, I feel as though everything I have done comes to my desire of becoming a nurse.
Noble E. Gagucas Nursing Scholarship
My name is Kimberly Lorenzo and there are various components that allow me to be proud of who I am and becoming to be. I am a Hispanic who came from a low-income family. Whenever someone would get sick at home, I would focus on them and think of different ways I could comfort them while they are in an uncomfortable position. I feel as though I am compassionate and caring about others. I also deem myself someone who is approachable to talk to. I could continue a conversation with those who probably do not want to speak about a certain situation. I am a listener, I will hear one talk about infinite things and just be there to help them come to an approachable solution by allowing them to talk it out with themselves, while I listen. As I am able to have these strong characteristics within myself, this brings me to be able to create a good persona of myself in order to bring it into the hospital.

I will prove to them that it is possible to have a positive experience with medical professionals.
Through this degree, I am given the opportunity to demonstrate my capability to handle more responsibilities. Utilizing my leadership skills to advocate for patient care and creating a platform to continue educating my fellow nurses.
Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
My experience as a college-bound immigrant student continues to be stressful to this day. I come from a family that is very committed to bringing money into the house and keeping every bill paid. Yes, this is great that my parents work so hard to get things done and my goal is to continue working as hard as they do in order to represent the hard-working people who created me. They taught me the principle of hard work growing up. They taught me not to ask for things but to work for them and put myself out there. With this comes financial complications. Yes, my parents had money to cover expenses, but we did not have enough to cover my college tuition. I had to work twice as hard like my parents to get where I wanted to go. I applied to various scholarships and worked extra hard in maintaining a certain GPA score. I joined clubs that could benefit me in building a better character for myself and helping me achieve my dreams that I have.
Throughout my whole education, I was the one being healed from the fact that I did not grasp the ability to achieve things with the financial needs we did not have. Now, I want to be someone to give back with the experience that I have received from my community, just like how they have helped me. I am forever grateful for the blessings I was granted throughout my whole childhood. My childhood allowed me to succeed in being English fluent and even being able to find ways to study.
Therefore, intend to help struggling communities with the knowledge and experience that I am gaining. I want to demonstrate to other communities that money should not be the factor to stop one from receiving the education and experience one deserves. I want to show them that by putting one's self out there, they have infinite possibilities once they take control of their own life.
I intend to use this scholarship to further my nursing career. In order to achieve the professional life goal I am attempting to achieve, I must devote the majority of my time to this type of practice. As I continue my studies, I intend to make more money and lose less in order to strike a balance between my professional and personal lives. Therefore, as I demonstrate to others that they can also achieve something for themselves, I want to show myself that everything I do is for the happy conclusion I want to have for myself.

I was inspired to continue to pursue the path of nursing by my mother, Flor because of how she has learned to build herself. She grew up with her grandfather and could only finish primary school. She has grown to be a significant influencer to me in which she shows that she came from so little and yet, gained so much. She influences me to continue where she has left off and come out of my shell to achieve great things as she has.
