Bio

Kimball is a second-year Rodman Scholar at the University of Virginia's School of Engineering and Applied Science, where she is majoring in biomedical engineering. She has a passion for STEM and sharing her enthusiasm for STEM with others. She has substantial experience in STEM from her research with the University of Virginia's Department of Neurosurgery, Link Lab, and Biocomplexity Institute. She is a passionate leader and enjoys leading groups of people toward an envisioned future. She looks forward to incorporating her entrepreneurial style with her engineering interests. When presented with a wall of difficulties, she finds a way to get around, over, under, or through it. Whether she is thinking of a solution to cure glioblastoma tumors using cutting-edge technology or encouraging young women to become involved in STEM or teaching young at-risk children how to swim, she finds creative solutions to problems and she gets the job done. The bigger the challenge the better, because she enjoys testing her ability to accomplish her goals. If she is passionate about something, especially something that benefits others, she will give her full attention and determination to make it happen and enjoy motivating others to accomplish it, too. At a young age, she fell in love with engineering largely because of the opportunities it presents in solving real-world problems and building a safer and stronger community. She finds the fast-paced, ever-changing STEM environment appealing because she loves to constantly be challenged and learn new things.
