My grandmother's support has been critical to me as a first-generation college student. As someone who did not have the benefit of a family member who had gone through the college experience, it was often difficult to navigate the academic and social challenges of college. However, my mother's support and guidance helped me to stay focused and motivated, even when I felt overwhelmed.
Furthermore, my mother's support has been vital to me as a Black woman. As a member of a historically marginalized group, it can be challenging to navigate the academic and professional world. However, my mother's belief in me and her encouragement to pursue my dreams has given me the confidence to overcome these challenges and succeed.
In addition to my mother, there have been other women in my life who have inspired and supported me on my education and career journey. My mother, aunts, and cousins have all played essential roles in my life, offering encouragement and support when I needed it most. Their belief in me has helped me to believe in myself and pursue my dreams with confidence.
Overall, the women in my life have played a significant role in my education and career journey. Their belief in me and encouragement helped me overcome obstacles and achieve my goals. I am grateful for their support and will continue to be inspired by their example as I pursue my dreams.
In conclusion, my mother, family, and other women have inspired and supported me on my education and career journey. Furthermore, they have taught me the importance of giving back to my community and using my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on society. I am grateful for their support and will continue to be inspired by their example as I pursue my dreams.

Golden State First Gen Scholarship
I was inspired to be the first of my family to pursue higher education, have a tech career, and leave home for something unknown. I was inspired by the desperation I felt at night when my siblings and I had to go to bed hungry because my mom didn't get her stamps in time to feed us and had to sacrifice paying the bills to keep a roof over our head versus dinner for a few days until we got a donation from church or a family member. I remember many nights going without but remaining grateful and blessed. I watched in my community people create a life for themselves with the crumbs society left for them to eat, and they made the most out of it, making happy memories where they could be found. It was here I wanted that for myself. I wanted a better life for my family outside struggle and survivor mode. I tried to acquaint myself with failure but never feared it. I am the first of many things, but not the first to experience this imposter syndrome. So, I contacted the available resources to assist me, as I have always seen my community do before me. I reached out to a recruiter in the Navy, deciding to get myself on track, and sought advice from other men and women of color to overcome self-doubt faced in our community as they shaped the path ahead for me to walk on. I applied myself wholeheartedly to therapy so that I could crack down on these self-limiting thoughts that were affecting my ability to perform. These actions allowed me to rank in the Navy and persevere in high-intensity environments. Unfortunately, life throws curve balls, and I was forced to retire from the Navy earlier than expected. I had no idea what to do next or how to provide for myself.
I started to recall what I had seen as a little girl, remember the past, and knew just what to do, what I have always seen displayed in action. I had to get up and make a plan with the knowledge and skills I had built over the years and make my own happier memories with what I already had. I began to pick up the pieces by researching career fields closest to what I did as collateral in the Navy, and I settled on cyber security analyst. I made the Honor Society at WGU with NSLS and Homeland Security and even secured a fellowship with Acuitus for the summer. Coming from a low-income background, we only had government assistance, which I felt at the time were handouts. I have aunties and uncles who cannot read. I have family members who never went to school past the 3rd grade. I hated this time in my life for so long, and as I reached adulthood, I separated myself from my roots in shame. I made thousands of reasons why a woman with my history couldn't succeed. I had to remember my roots as far as I might run. That is my background, my why. In my opinion, you can't accomplish anything without having a why. I kept quotes from my family and friends on my vision board above my study area to never forget the important things. I am passionate about protecting the public from cyber threats and upholding trust. My experience in network and data protection will ensure secure access and safety of sensitive data. This scholarship would be critical in ensuring I am current with the latest developments in cyber security events.
Sherman S. Howard Legacy Foundation Scholarship
Volunteering in my church since I was five has aided me in building a positive team and family spirit in my community. My most significant improvement areas are my academic, career, and social life. Before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, I was not expected to have the answers for everything; I was only meant to perform. I am the oldest girl, and in an African American household as such, I never learned how to enlist the help of others because we were all we had. My mother is a single parent and always working. I was responsible for my younger siblings with no guidance other than being able to predict what was needed and meet their needs. The church was the first place I learned to stand up and give words of encouragement and support to those in need. In doing so, once I joined the Navy, I did not know how to be a team player; I only knew how to do everything independently. Once, I took a leadership position upon making second class petty officer; this was a problematic area because now I wasn't a doer; I was telling others to do things instead. I was uncomfortable and stepped on many toes when learning to give instructions and follow-up. Luckily, I had developed the mindset of building a positive team and having a family spirit through serving god as a worship leader. I took this with me to improve my leadership style towards junior sailors. I set a standard of what it looks like to take charge in the name of Jesus to help encourage others to perform at their best in high-intensity environments daily.
I am now a highly motivated, inexperienced, committed Cyber Security Analyst, passionate about protecting the public from cyber threats and upholding public trust. My experience in network and data protection will ensure secure access and safety of sensitive data. This scholarship will be critical in allowing me to impact the community further using the tools I learned in Christian leadership to commit to safeguarding the nation's security and providing solutions that will help improve information security and keep our country and churches safe. I am passionate about staying current with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to ensure that my academics are current with the latest developments. With this scholarship, I am confident I can positively protect the nation from cyber threats if selected. While in service, I found my purpose in computer science. I worked with the rated IT professionals on my ship to update the vessel navigation systems, and it was while being there I discovered the war on terrorism doesn't just have to be at sea. I can support my country and church at the front lines of the computer science field. In doing so, I can make a positive impact on the youth. It was an honor to serve, and I want to continue. That has been my motivation on this life journey. This scholarship is critical for me; not only is this opportunity understanding and helpful towards impacting academic careers, but it also provides enough resources tailored to the best environment for students to grow their lab environments and reach many more saints.
Revolutionizing Robotics and Computer Sciences Scholarship
As a retired U.S. Navy sailor, my work serving our country has been exciting and informational. I was able to travel the world and learn new things. Especially as a quartermaster, it was my responsibility to navigate the open seas to keep our military mission on course. I attended Quartermaster A school where I learned master of charts and oceanography using Voyage Management systems. I would like to see Social media and tech join forces and undergo a revolution. Through LinkedIn, I was contacted by the enrollment team at Western Governors University. WGU has been a fantastic opportunity; so far in my curriculum, I have written and learned through networking on LinkedIn and utilizing my peer group how to write scripts to handle data for various applications; operated and coordinated automated networks using PowerShell in active Directories, CLI, datalinks, and circuits. Executed information system diagnostic, corrective, and recovery techniques and efficiently analyzed communication signals. Supplied telecommunications and computer-related training and assistance; carried out preventive and curative maintenance on state-of-the-art equipment in VMware.
Finally, once I navigated my platform to Instagram, I became familiar with the application of operating and maintaining global satellite telecommunications systems. So far, I’d say the most complex challenge to overcome current social limitations is how much impact social media and tech have on joining forces and undergoing a revolution. It’s incredible our ability to get in our way when we allow doubt and fear to infect the mind of a visionary. Coming from a low-income background, we only had government assistance, which I felt at the time were handouts. I have aunties and uncles who cannot read. I have family members who never went to school past the 3rd grade.
A highly motivated, inexperienced, but committed Cyber Security Analyst, I am passionate about protecting the public from cyber threats and upholding the public trust. My LinkedIn is dedicated to sharing the most up-to-date news on current cyber threats to our nation, and I run an Instagram dedicated to empowering STEM women who are also pursuing those endeavors. My experience in network and data protection will ensure secure access and safety of sensitive data. I am committed to safeguarding the nation's security and providing solutions that will help improve information security and keep our country safe. I am passionate about staying current with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to ensure that my academics are current with the latest developments. With my commitment, experience, and passion, I am confident that I can positively impact the social media and tech revolution and protect the nation from cyber threats as I continue to educate myself and my peers utilizing social media. While in service, I found my love of computer science and ability to explain to others in a simplified way. I worked with the rated IT professionals on my ship to update the vessel navigation systems, and it was while being there I discovered the war on terrorism doesn't just have to be at sea. I can support my country at the front lines of the computer science field. In doing so, I can show my peers there are other ways to fight for our country. It was an honor to serve, and I want to continue. That has been my motivation on this life journey. This scholarship is critical for me; not only is this opportunity understanding and helpful towards impacting revolutions in academic careers, but it also provides enough resources tailored to the best environment for students to grow their lab and address critical issues such as these.

As a highly motivated, experienced, and committed Cyber Security Analyst, I am passionate about protecting the public from cyber threats and upholding the public trust. My experience in network and data protection will ensure secure access and safety of sensitive data. I am committed to safeguarding the security of the nation and providing solutions that will help in improving information security and keep our country safe. I am also passionate about staying current with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to ensure that my academics are current with the latest developments. With my commitment, experience, and passion, I am confident that I can positively protect the nation from cyber threats if I am selected. As a retired us navy sailor, my work serving our country has been exciting and informational. I was able to travel the world and learn new things. Especially as a quartermaster, it was my responsibility to navigate the open seas to keep our military mission on course. Specializing in maps, charts, and oceanography, I worked in the ship’s pilot house, watching the sun rise and set each day. Every Sailor relied on my rates expertise to keep them safe and operational. When you become a Quartermaster, you become the ship’s GPS to keep it on track to reach its destination. In doing this is where I found my love of computer science. I would go down with the Its on my ship to update the vessel navigation systems, and it was while being there I discovered the war on terrorism doesn't just have to be at sea. I can do it from the front lines of the computer science field. In doing so, I can show my peers there are other ways to fight for our country. It was an honor to serve, and I want to continue. That has been my motivation on this career journey. That is also why this scholarship is for me; not only is this opportunity understanding and helpful towards impacting women’s careers, but they also provide enough resources tailored to the best environment for a student to grow their lab environments. I look forward to being considered. WGU has been a fantastic opportunity; so far in my curriculum, I have written scripts to handle data for various applications; operated and coordinated automated networks using PowerShell in active Directories, CLI, datalinks, and circuits. Executed information system diagnostic, corrective, and recovery techniques and efficiently analyzed communication signals. Supplied telecommunications and computer-related training and assistance; carried out preventive and curative maintenance on state-of-the-art equipment in VMware. Finally, I have become familiar with the application of operating and maintaining global satellite telecommunications systems.

For me, patriotism is displayed in the three core values, which are honor, courage, and commitment. I am a retired us navy sailor, and my work serving our country has been exciting and informational from all standpoints. In doing this is where I found my love of computers. I would go down with the Its on my ship to update the vessel navigation systems, and it was while being there I discovered the war on terrorism doesn't just have to be at sea; I can do it from the front lines of the cyber security field. In doing so, I can show my peers there are other ways to fight for our country. It was an honor to serve, and I want to continue. That’s why I think this internship is for me. Not only is WGU understanding and helpful towards veterans, but they also provide a curriculum tailored to the best environment for a student, active or veteran. A school that severs veterans, and the demand of the mission seems as patriotic as you can get!I look forward to being considered.

That has been my motivation on this career journey. That is also why this scholarship is for me; not only is this opportunity understanding and helpful towards impacting women’s careers, but they also provide enough resources tailored to the best environment for a student to grow their lab environments. I look forward to being considered.

So far, I’d say the most complex challenge I’ve had to overcome is myself. It’s incredible our ability to get in our way when we allow doubt and fear to infect the mind of a visionary. I’ve spent much time this school year recommitting myself to my goals. I am the first of my family to go to college, to have a career, to leave home for something unknown. Up until this point, I had been acquainted with failure, but never fear. I am the first of many things, but not the first to experience this imposter syndrome. So, I contacted the resources I had available to assist me. I reached out to my program mentor to make a plan to get myself on track, and I sought advice from other women for overcoming self-doubt. I even applied myself wholeheartedly to therapy so that I could crack down on these thoughts that were affecting my ability to perform. Doing these actions allowed me to make the Honor Society at WGU with NSLS and Homeland Security, and I even secured a fellowship with Acuitus for the summer. Coming from a low-income background, we only had government assistance and handouts. I have aunties and uncles who cannot read. I have family members who never went to school past the 3rd grade. I hated this time in my life for so long, and as I turned into an adult, I separated myself from my roots. I had to remember my roots as far as I might run. That is my background, my why. In my opinion, you can’t accomplish anything without having a why. I started to keep quotes on my vision board above my study area from my family and friends, so I’ll never forget the important things; that’s how I’ve managed to overcome and stay on the road less traveled. I made a choice to turn my history and pain into power.
