I must be honest I’ve had a blue print for resilience from my mother. I’ve watched her be resilient many times and she’s done it with grace. When I was ten I watched my mom start over in many aspects of her life, from personal, spiritual and career wise. As I look back at our journey I guess I can say we had to be resilient together. My mom told me it was my sister and I that had inspired her not to give up bc of our attitude during one of the hardest time in both our lives. My mom and I went to bed having one life only to have it all change by the end of the next day. My father left us without a letter or any idea as to where he went. I was only ten not understanding the complexities of life. I just knew I had to do what needed to be done. Through all the hardships and changes I kept my grades up and my spirits high. Honestly I felt I had to do this for not only me but my mother. We went from the comforts of our house to moving in a two bedroom house with my grandmother. I went from having friends at a school to changing to a whole new school. I felt my whole life was being uprooted. I knew that I had to do well and trust God. I promised myself that I would continue to excel and try my best. I never knew that my attitude towards a huge change like this helped my mom not give up too. This story may not seem as grand as most. It is however, my story. In this story of my life I have not always had easy wins. I’ve overcome mental breakdowns. I’ve felt low and I’ve failed. I never gave up though. My mom tells me daily how proud of me she is. Despite me going through many pit falls like sometimes not wanting to be here, I’ve overcome. Now I am a senior with a 3.8 gpa. I am a section leader in my high school marching band. It made me happy when my mom said I inspired her not to give up bc of the strength I have showed. Honestly it’s not my strength it is the strength that God had bestowed on me and he walks with me daily.
