One thing that I have always learned about myself is that I care to learn and help people in anyway possible. I have been focused and dedicated to becoming a police officer since I was kid and now I am just a year or two away from being able to say that I reached my lifetime goal and that I will be happy in the career I am pursuing. This scholarship would help me decrease some school payments as I am already a full time student for the upcoming year and I need just a small assistance to lower my monthly bill. I work full time as of right now but will be cutting my hours as I go back to school and won’t be able to make it to work sometimes due to the fluctuations in my school schedule. I live in the chicago suburbs and I have been following my local police agency as a kid and just seeing how they do things around the community. They host many events dedicated to policing and also that are aiming to help different people and groups learn about policing and the goals the agency has for the community. This agency goes above and beyond by making sure they look to the police as their aid and being able to look to them for any type of assistance no matter how big or small the problem will be. I have gone to many of their classes where they teach the basics of policing and their ideal methods and approaches they have when dealing with different problems around the community. Also, they do well in demonstrating that policing is not an easy job and that it could also personally affect your life and bleed into your personal life. Many people have told me that I am making a mistake joining any agency and that I should be looking for a different career field. As I have said before I do not care what it takes for me to protect the people in my community as long as I can go home and say that I helped or impacted someone’s life in a positive way that day. There will always be pros and cons in a job and some might have more cons but that should not impact any type of decision you are making when searching for a job or a career. I want to make a difference in my community by doing the same things the police in my community are doing and expand it towards other communities as well. I want kids and teenagers to look as police officers as their peers and to look to them to help them in any situation and as well as learning that police have and will always look out for them no matter what way they are being treated. I want to be a police officer that is known in the community for making an impact and that people can look to me as their assistant and their friends as well.
