As a computer science major and student-athlete at Southwest College, I have a passion for technology and a drive to make a positive impact in my community. Growing up in Chula Vista, California, and traveling throughout the country has given me a unique perspective and appreciation for diverse cultures and experiences. My interests in reading, technology, and cuisine only add to my well-rounded personality. With my goal of becoming a software engineer for a Fortune 500 company, I am eager to make a difference in my hometown of Chula Vista through innovative technology solutions. Currently, I am learning Python to deepen my understanding of machine learning and its potential applications in health care. The COVID-19 pandemic presented a new set of challenges in my college journey, causing a lack of structure and face-to-face interaction in my classes. This resulted in poor grades during my semesters, but I refused to let it defeat me. I took responsibility for my education and adapted to the new learning environment by setting a schedule, creating a dedicated study space, seeking out virtual study groups, and reaching out to my professors for support. I also prioritized my mental health, taking breaks and practicing self-care, leading to improved grades and regained confidence. Despite the obstacles posed by the pandemic, I persevered and emerged stronger as a college freshman. I am determined to continue growing and excelling in my academic pursuits and believe that the challenges faced during the pandemic have only strengthened my resolve.

Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
The power of public relations in shaping public narratives cannot be overstated. Public relations professionals are in charge of crafting messages, shaping perceptions, and influencing public opinion. However, it is critical to consider whose voices are being heard and represented in these messages. In public relations, a lack of diverse voices can lead to a narrow, homogeneous portrayal of the world that does not accurately reflect the experiences and perspectives of the broader population. When diverse voices are included in the process, however, PR can have a significant impact on shaping public narratives in ways that promote inclusivity, equity, and social justice.
Building relationships between an organization and its stakeholders is at the heart of public relations. To effectively communicate with these stakeholders, public relations professionals must first understand their perspectives, values, and beliefs. This necessitates not only an understanding of dominant culture, but also an appreciation for marginalized communities' experiences and perspectives.
When diverse voices are included in the process of shaping public narratives, the messages that result are more authentic, nuanced, and inclusive. PR professionals can help to break down stereotypes and challenge the dominant narrative by incorporating diverse perspectives. This can result in a more accurate depiction of the world, as well as a greater sense of empathy and understanding among different groups.
Hiring and retaining a diverse workforce is one of the most important ways to include diverse voices in public relations. Organizations can better understand the needs and desires of diverse audiences by bringing in people from various backgrounds and experiences. Furthermore, organizations can foster an environment in which all employees feel valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives by fostering a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusivity.
However, simply hiring a diverse workforce is insufficient. Organizations must also ensure that these employees have a seat at the table and the opportunity to contribute to the larger narrative. This includes developing a workplace culture that encourages and values diverse viewpoints, as well as providing the resources and support needed to ensure that all employees feel empowered to contribute.
Organizations must ensure that their public relations efforts are inclusive and equitable in addition to hiring a diverse workforce. This entails actively seeking out diverse perspectives and voices, and ensuring that these voices are represented in messaging and outreach efforts. For example, if a company is launching a new product or service, it should solicit feedback from a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the product or service is accessible and appealing to a wide range of audiences.
Partnerships with diverse community groups and organizations are another way for organizations to incorporate diverse voices in public relations. Organizations can gain a better understanding of the needs and perspectives of diverse communities by collaborating with these groups, and they can work together to create more inclusive and effective messaging and outreach efforts.
Organizations can ensure that all voices are heard and represented in their public relations efforts by adopting a broad definition of diversity.
Finally, the importance of diverse voices in public relations cannot be overstated. Organizations can create more authentic, nuanced, and inclusive narratives that accurately reflect the experiences and perspectives of the broader population when they include diverse perspectives in their messaging and outreach efforts. Organizations can ensure that all voices are heard and represented in their public relations efforts by hiring a diverse workforce, creating an inclusive workplace culture, seeking out diverse partnerships, and embracing a broad definition of diversity. This results in not only more effective messaging, but also a more just and equitable society.

Book Lovers Scholarship
If I had to suggest a book that has had a significant impact and has the potential to bring about positive change, I would suggest "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. This classic novel has been widely read and loved since its publication in 1960, and its themes of racial injustice, prejudice, and moral education are still relevant today.
The story is told through the eyes of Scout Finch, a young girl growing up in the South during the 1930s. She witnesses the unfair treatment of an African American man who is falsely accused of a crime and the unwavering courage of her father, Atticus, who defends him in court. Through Scout's experiences and observations, the reader learns about the damaging effects of racial prejudice and the importance of standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult.
In addition to addressing issues of race and prejudice, "To Kill a Mockingbird" also explores themes of empathy, courage, and personal growth. Scout learns to understand and see things from other people's perspectives, and this helps her to grow as a person and become more empathetic toward those who are different from her. Atticus, meanwhile, serves as a model of courage and integrity, showing Scout and the reader what it means to stand up for one's beliefs and to do what is right, even in the face of opposition.
In conclusion, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a timeless novel that continues to resonate with readers of all ages and backgrounds. Its themes of racial injustice, empathy, and courage are as relevant today as they were when the book was first published, and its powerful message has the potential to inspire positive change in the world.

Because of addiction to substances such as alcohol or opioids, a person's views, relationships, and professional ambitions may be drastically affected. Additionally, a person's physical health may deteriorate as a result of their addiction. Since my friends and family members who have struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction have been the source of my exposure to the sickness, my exposure to the disease of addiction has been limited to secondhand knowledge.
My observation of the negative effects of drug usage on people's lives and relationships with their loved ones was crucial to my development as a victim of addiction since it gave me a personal understanding of the condition. FMA College Scholarship
Floods are major natural disasters that can have devastating effects on people and communities. They can cause loss of life, damage to property and infrastructure, and disrupt the lives of those affected. Despite the efforts of governments and organizations to reduce the risk and impacts of floods, there are still many challenges that need to be addressed.
One of the main challenges to reducing the risk and impacts of floods is the lack of accurate and up-to-date information about flood risk. Many communities are not aware of their flood risk or do not have access to accurate information about the likelihood and potential consequences of a flood event. This lack of information can lead to a lack of preparedness and an increased risk of damage and loss of life.
Another challenge is the lack of effective flood management and mitigation measures. Many communities lack the resources or infrastructure to adequately protect themselves from floods. This can include things like levees, dams, and flood walls, as well as early warning systems and evacuation plans. Without these measures in place, communities are at a higher risk of flooding.
Climate change is also a major challenge to reducing the risk and impacts of floods. As the planet warms, sea levels are rising and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe. This can lead to more frequent and severe floods, making it more difficult to protect communities from the impacts of flooding.
Despite these challenges, there are many ways that individuals and communities can contribute to reducing the risk and impacts of floods. One way is to become educated about flood risks and to take steps to prepare for a flood event. This can include creating an emergency plan, stocking up on emergency supplies, and knowing how to evacuate if necessary.
Another way to contribute is to support organizations and government efforts to improve flood management and mitigation measures. This can include supporting funding for flood control infrastructure, lobbying for better floodplain management policies, and supporting research on flood risk and mitigation.
Individuals can also make a difference by reducing their own environmental impact. This can include reducing energy consumption, reducing waste, and supporting sustainable development. By reducing our environmental impact, we can help to slow the effects of climate change, which can in turn help to reduce the risk and impacts of floods.
In the future, I believe that it will be important to continue to invest in research and technology to improve our understanding of flood risk and to develop more effective flood management and mitigation measures. This can include things like better flood forecasting systems, early warning systems, and improved evacuation plans.
I also believe that it is important to continue to educate and engage communities about flood risk and to support them in their efforts to prepare for and respond to flood events. This can include providing resources and support for emergency planning and evacuation, as well as supporting community-based flood management and mitigation efforts.
Overall, reducing the risk and impacts of floods is a complex and ongoing challenge that requires the efforts of individuals, communities, and governments. By working together and investing in research, technology, and community engagement, we can make a difference in addressing flood issues and protecting communities from the devastating effects of flooding.
