I've always found science to be really interesting, but my path into STEM began with something more profound—a strong need for truth and justice. As I was growing up, I didn't have a clear path to guide me. Being a first-generation college student, I had to navigate everything independently, from applying for financial aid to organizing my class schedules. Since my parents didn't complete high school, I had to figure out the challenges of higher education on my own. Even with all these challenges, I stayed focused on one thing: my passion for science and my commitment to using it to create change. I chose forensic science because it combines my passion for problem-solving with my desire to pursue justice. Being able to analyze evidence, reconstruct crime scenes, and uncover the truth through scientific methods is exciting and essential. Science can significantly help those who are no longer able to speak for themselves, and I want to be involved in that effort. I aim to earn a master’s degree in forensic science and pursue a career in a crime lab or as a forensic investigator. I’m particularly interested in utilizing scientific advancements to aid in solving cases and providing closure to families. Getting to my dreams has been a challenge. Throughout my time in school, I experienced the loss of my home due to a tornado, which pushed me to reconstruct my life while remaining dedicated to my education. Not long after, my sister unexpectedly passed away, leaving her 8-year-old daughter behind. Suddenly, I found myself as a mother of two and a guardian, trying to manage my grief while making sure my niece felt the stability and love she deserved. Even with everything going on, I was in a car accident while pregnant, but I didn’t let that setback hold me back. During one of the most challenging periods I've faced, I gave birth to my baby while finals were happening, and I still completed the semester with straight A’s. The challenges I've faced have just made me more determined. Every challenge I've encountered has strengthened my conviction that education is the way to a brighter future—not only for myself but also for my children and my niece. I won’t let challenges define my success, and I genuinely want to inspire others, particularly young women in STEM, to see that determination can help them overcome even the most challenging situations. In addition to my career aspirations, I am deeply committed to contributing to my community. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate college without guidance, and I want to help other first-generation students who may be feeling overwhelmed by the experience. I want to get involved with outreach programs that inspire young women to explore STEM fields, providing support and motivation for those who might doubt that a career in science is achievable for them. I want to inspire others to break barriers, just like I'm trying to do myself. This scholarship would be more than just financial help—it would show that all my hard work and struggles have been recognized. This opportunity would help me move closer to my dream of working in forensic science, allowing me to concentrate on my studies without the heavy burden of financial worries. What's important is that it reminds me that, despite all the challenges, my effort, determination, and enthusiasm have been recognized. I’m focused on moving ahead, using science to make a difference, and shaping a future that once seemed out of reach.

Being the first in my family to earn a college degree is not just a personal achievement—it's the culmination of a dream that once seemed unattainable. My parents didn't finish high school, so I've had to navigate the challenges of higher education on my own. I had to figure out college applications, financial aid, and academic planning all on my own, learning through trial and error. Even with all these difficulties, I stayed focused on my studies because I understood it was essential for building a brighter future. Changing this pattern isn't only about my achievements; it's also about creating opportunities for my children, my niece, and future generations in my family to view higher education as something they can actually achieve. I genuinely believe that with hard work, perseverance, and resilience, you can overcome even the most challenging obstacles. My school experience has been quite challenging. Throughout my college experience, I encountered several significant challenges. I lost my home to tornados, and I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my sister, which made me the guardian of her little girl. I was in a car accident while pregnant, but I didn't let any of these challenges get in the way of my education. Although it was emotionally and physically challenging, I remained dedicated to my studies. The most significant moment of my determination occurred when I had my youngest son during finals week, yet I still managed to complete the semester with straight A's. These challenges have only strengthened my conviction that education is the way to a brighter future, and nothing will stop me from reaching my goals. I’m currently working on my bachelor’s degree in biology, but I aspire to transition into forensic science in the future. I've always found science fascinating, but it was my strong sense of justice that drew me to the field of forensic science. Being able to examine evidence, piece together crime scenes, and determine what really happened is both fascinating and crucial. I aim to apply what I've learned and my abilities to support criminal investigations and ensure that science is effectively utilized to achieve justice. Forensic science is a field that genuinely combines my passion for problem-solving and making a positive impact in the world, and I'm committed to leaving my mark on it. Through my classes and projects, I'm building the foundation I need to pursue a career. I aspire to become a forensic scientist in the future and work either in a laboratory or as part of a crime scene investigation team. I am eager to contribute in situations where scientific analysis is crucial for ensuring justice is served. In addition to my career goals, I am willing to mentor and inspire other first-generation students who may feel lost in their college experience, just as I did. I aim to demonstrate that, despite financial difficulties, limited support, and personal challenges, success is attainable through dedication and perseverance. This scholarship would help me move closer to my dreams by alleviating the financial burden of attending college. The costs of tuition, books, and living expenses can really pile on the stress. Receiving this scholarship would enable me to focus more on my studies and research without constantly worrying about financial concerns. What’s even more important is that it would confirm my belief that my effort and commitment are being acknowledged and appreciated. Getting a college degree isn't just for me—it's about making a difference in my family's future. I really appreciate the opportunity to apply, and I look forward to using this support to continue working toward my goals.

As a non-traditional student, my journey back to school at the age of 23. Going back to school at the age of 23 was one of the most challenging but rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. As the eldest of ten siblings, I wasn’t just a big sister—I often had to step into a motherly role, helping to raise and guide my younger siblings through life’s ups and downs. That responsibility shaped who I am today. I learned how to put others before myself, how to stay calm in the face of challenges, and how to lead by example. These lessons, while difficult at times, have been invaluable in my journey as both a mother of two and a student. When I decided to return to school, it wasn’t just for me. I wanted to provide a better future for my children, who rely on me to create a stable and supportive environment. At the same time, I wanted to show my siblings that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, no matter how far off they may seem. Growing up, they watched me juggle responsibilities, and I know they still look to me as a role model. Returning to school was a way to prove to them—and to myself—that hard work and perseverance can open doors, even when the path isn’t straightforward. Earning my bachelor’s degree in biology is more than just a personal goal; it’s a way to create opportunities for my family. But as a parent and student, balancing financial responsibilities with academic demands isn’t easy. Tuition, books, and childcare are constant worries, and every semester brings new challenges. That’s where this scholarship would make a life-changing difference. It would alleviate the financial burden and allow me to fully commit to my education. With this support, I could focus on excelling in my studies and setting an example of resilience and determination for my children and siblings. I want my kids to grow up believing they can achieve anything they set their minds to, and I want my siblings to know that no matter the circumstances, it’s never too late to dream big and work toward something meaningful. This scholarship wouldn’t just help me; it would ripple out to inspire the people who mean the most to me. This opportunity would be a blessing, not just for me but for the example I strive to set for those who look up to me. I’m truly thankful for the chance to share my story and for the possibility of receiving such meaningful support.
