My mission is to be able to help people, especially those who typically are unable to receive help or typically are cared for less. I am very interested in the medical field in order to provide help and healthcare to people and the helping those who typically are not helped refers to minorities or underrepresented communities. I want to be able to become a healthcare provider and attempt to determine a way to help lessen the disparities between under-represented communities and people in positions of privilege.

I would like to become a doctor and the Biochemistry major is a good pre-medical major that could prepare me for the coursework and knowledge I will learn in medical school. Biochemistry is a large focus in medical school and the early understanding of that could help me greatly on my journey into the medical field. I am also very aware that I learn much better when I understand why things that I'm learning are happening and learning to understand biology on a chemical level would be incredibly helpful in helping me process and more fully understand anything else I need to learn for my future in medicine, therefore this would be an amazing major for me as it would provide a wonderful base knowledge for me to build upon and grow throughout the years. Additionally, the requirements for this major allow me to take classes that I find incredibly interesting and let me expand upon my knowledge of the human body and general biological happenings, which I find fascinating. Focus on these things and other topics in the biochemistry major would allow me to have a passionate will to learn and would inspire me to do my best and truly get the most out of my studies. People who are not passionate and invested in the topic they choose to study do not do as well because they care less, therefore, I have chosen a major that I will find myself fully committed to in order to promote and foster that love of learning that I’ve been so fortunate to have maintained over my academic career.
While my passion and hopes for my future career lie with medicine and becoming a doctor, I have always kept social justice in mind and balancing systemic racial inequities is a very important issue to me. I would hope to study more in depth on these topics in order to figure out what I specifically can do within my life and career to try and cancel out some of those disparities between minority and majority groups, racially and otherwise. In being a physician I can better, or try my best to make some sort of positive change to, the world through helping promote the health and wellbeing of those who are in need of that sort of assistance and in order to maximize my positive effect on the healthcare field and others, I plan to learn as much as I can about human rights and civil and social issues in order to delve deeper into that realm of helping others. There are many disparities across all systems of our country’s functions, one of the more prominent of these being in health care quality and availability. These disparities exist largely between minority groups and the over represented majority which is typically favored throughout all systems. This is a problem near to my heart as a minority myself and I would like to be able to see a change in the healthcare field specifically and would like even more to be able to contribute to that positive change.
