Mahlagha Jaberi Mental Health Awareness for Immigrants Scholarship
Immigrating to a country is never an easy thing to do,oticed I was 16 years old when i arrived to the united states, it wasn't easy adjusting to the new enviroment.I came over to the U.S for studies i am the youngest of five siblings in my family. i have a host family but they are Americans very nice people, sometimes i do feel home sick because i miss my family so much. it was hard for me to adjust to the education system, i was lucky because i had no language barrier because English language is the central language in Nigeria, so my English is very good although i have an accent. I noticed that people love my accent both in school and outside the school. I also noticed that most people haven't been to Africa so they think Africa is a village or undeveloped, i told them it depends where you live in because we have big cities, rural areas etc. I have face many challenges like trying to get a part time job to make some money but it wasn't easy because i am a foreign student, it was really intensee for me to get my state Issued identification card and a social security. My major goal is to stay the course and get my bachelor's degree in businness management. I want to be a sports agent representing basketball players from U.S and so many other countries. I love basketball so much, i also love helping people thats why i want to do it through basketball. I want to also be a humanitarian helping people from my community, build like a hospital, award scholarships to young students too. I will also want to own houses and rent it out to people or mortgage it for a period of time. I want to get married someday in future and have kids, i will love to spend a lot family time with my wife and kids on vacation. i also will want to have a charitable non profit foundation to help the widows, disabled people. I want to build a less priveledge home where disabled people will stay and i will make sure they are well taking care of them. it is my dream to serve as a governor of my state. I have big plans to develop my state, put electricity, water, street lights etc. Finally i want to accomplish these things if everything works the way i planned it.
Nikhil Desai Reflect and Learn COVID-19 Scholarship
COVID 19 has caused havoc to millions of people living in the world today. COVID 19 affected my life when the state was shot down back in March, it really affected me because I have to start taking classes online which I hate so much. All my classes went online including math class which is a harder subject for me. I was also taking an English which was a lot of essay writing. It wasn’t fun taking these classes online it was tough but I had to stand up and take it. My Professors were really helpful they were doing a virtual teaching, which was really helpful. I was happy i had my own laptop, which made it easier for to always check and do my assignments. Then I was thinking we were going back to in person class in the fall but we didn’t, classes were still online because of the increase Incase of covid19 cases all over the country. I quarantined myself because I was scared. I didn’t want to see my friends because I don’t know who got this virus it was one of the worst experience. I wanted to participate in my school basketball team, but we can’t practice or do nothing because of Covid19, the basketball schedule is now shifted to January 2021. I love to go the store to do grocery shopping, I must wear a mask. I have to wear a mask all the time. I have to be conscious of my environment to make sure no one around me is sick. I also lost a family friend who died of COVID 19. I have learned that we have to love each other because nobody knows or can predict the future in 2019 if someone told me COVID 19 will claim so many lives in 2020 I won’t believe it. I have learned to be conscious, take care of my environment and always maintain good hygiene.
